Home on the way People need homes: children assume their parents’ place as home;boarders call school “home”on weekdays;married couples work together to build new homes;and travellers have no place to call “home”,at least for a few nights.

1.       ? Don’t they have the right to a home? Of course they do.

Some regular travellers take their own belongings :like bed sheets, pillowcases and family photos to make them feel like home no matter where they are;some stay for long periods in the same hotel and as a result become very familiar with service and attendants;2.       .Furthermore, driving a camping car during one’s travels and sleeping in the vehicle at night is just like home -only mobile!

And how about keeping relationships while in transit? 3.      some send letters and postcards,or even pho tos;others may just call and say hi,just to let their friends know that they’re still alive and well. People find ways to keep in touch. Making friends on the way helps travellers feel more or less at home.

4.        .

Nowadays, fewer people are working in their local towns,so how do they develop a sense of belonging? Whenever we step out of our local boundaries, there is always another w homewaiting to be found.5.      ,we can make the place we stay at “home”.

   A. Hostels provide a clean safe place to stay while you are travelling the world

   B. others may simply put some flowers by the hotel window to make things more homely

   C. Backpackers in youth hostels may become very good friends, even closer than siblings (手足)

   D. So how about people who have to travel for extended periods of time

   E. No matter where you go in the world, hotels are there, too

   F. Some keep contact with their friends via Internet

   G. Wherever we are, with just a little bit of effort and imagination

D. So how about people who have to travel for extended periods of time

5. G該句所在的最后一段為總結(jié)性段落,而此空和空后的"… we can make the place we stay at home."構成一個完整的句子,所以這個句子的部分結(jié)構應選0. 該句句意為"無論我們身在何處,只要付出些努力和想象,我們就能有個'家'。

LONDON—A British judge on Thursday sentenced a businessman who sold fake (假冒的) bomb detectors (探測器) to 10 years in prison, saying the man hadn’t cared about potentially deadly consequences.

It is believed that James McCormick got about $ 77. 8 million from the sales of his detectors—which were based on a kind of golf ball finder—to countries including Iraq,Belgium and Saudi Arabia.

McCormick,57.was convicted (判罪) of cheats last month and sentenced on Thursday at the Old Bailey court in London.

“Your cheating conduct in selling a great amount of useless equipment simply for huge profit promoted a false sense of security and in all probability materially contributed to causing death and injury to innocent people ,” Judge Richard Hone told McCormick, “and you have neither regret, nor shame, nor any sense of guilt. ”

The detectors, sold for up to $ 42,000 each, were said to be able to find such dangerous objects as bombs under water and from the air. But in fact they “l(fā)acked any grounding in science” and were of no use.

McCormick had told the court that he sold his detectors to the police in Kenya, the prison service in Hong Kong, the army in Egypt and the border control in Thailand.

“I never had any bad results from customers,” he said.

(   ) 1. Why was McCormick sentenced to prison?

   C. changed people’s idea of social security

   D. caused innocent people to commit crimes

(   ) 3. Which of the following is TRUE about the detec tors?

   A. They have not been sold to Africa.

   B. They have caused many serious problems.
