Dear Mr. Seaton,Thank you very much for taking me with you on that splendid outing to London. It is the first time that I had seen the Tower or any of the other famous sight. If I'd gone alone,I could have seen nearly as much, because I shouldn't have known my way about.
The weather was splendid on that day,as I thought was rare. I still remember some people told me that in Britain there was weather and no climate. At the same day,it might snow in the morning, rain at the noon, shine in the afternoon and be windy before the night falls. So I think I was lucky.
I think the river trip was the best thing of all. London really came alive to me as we saw it from the Thames during that wonderful journey down Greenwich. It was all tremendous exciting―a day that I shall never forget.
Thank you for giving I such a great birthday treat.
Yours sincerely,Linda Chen

We can see lots of ladies dancing in the square or open spaces after dinner time. It is a very harmonious scene 1 someone fires guns and releases his dogs 2 (threat) these ladies to escape, just because their music is too loud. Some people think this noisy music has 3 (serious) affected their life,so that the dancing ladies should 4 ( drive) out of public places. But I can't agree with them.
I have two reasons to support my views. In the first place, most dancing ladies are retired women, they finally have extra time to do something they like to do―get together to dance, make more new friends 5 share the same habit 6 them, and build up their body as well. As a matter of fact, some dancing lady is a loner without family members at home, and the dancing group is like their second home. We should not take 7 their right of dancing.
In the second place, squares and open spaces are public places;everyone can use them for any actions of entertainment 8 relaxation. If someone complains about the noisy music, they can go 9 (straight) to the dance group and ask them to turn it down. We don't have to solve this problem by an extreme way.
As a consequence,we cannot force the dancing ladies away, because it is a public place, and why can't we show some mercy10 a group of retired ladies who just need a place to dance together?

Because of poor childhood reading habits, most people read up to 10 times slower than they actually could. 1 But,by employing certain basic techniques along with some consistent practice, your reading speed and accuracy will increase without taking away from your overall reading comfort.
1. Identify why you're reading.
Before you start reading, you need to seek out your motivation. 2 Think about why you're reading the book in front of you. Is it for fun? A job? School? Your reasoning will help you find the right frame of mind for the task and aid in absorbing the information more efficiently.
2. Narrow down on the important parts.
3 A good speedreader is also smart. Learn to read selectively and change speeds. Think back to your initial reading goals. If you know which topics are essential, don't be afraid to slow down during the important areas to maximize your retention (i己個(gè)乙力) . 4 Don't let an unimportant paragraph get the best of you.
3. Use a guide.
Training your eyes to pick up the reading pace and maintain it is the final step. Naturally, the eyes tend to pause or drift from the page―even for a split second―during regular reading. In reading an entire book, the amount of time lost can be significant. 5 The easiest way to control them is with a guide, which can be as simple as your index finger (食指) or a pen.
A. Another thing to consider is the type of book you are going to read.
B. In that case, find a book and a quiet place to read.
C. We can't expect an average reader to become a "speedreader" overnight.
D. So it's critical to keep the eyes on the page.
E. Conversely, you should also be ready to skip paragraphs and unnecessary words.
F. Don't try to read through each page at top speed.
G. Why you read is essential for deciding how fast to read.

for mercy. "Please have mercy 4 me,King Lion! Please don't kill me!Forgive me this time, and I will never forget it. A day may come 5 I may be able to do something for you to repay your 6 (kind) .”The lion smiled at the mouse's fright and laughed at the thought 7 so small a creature could ever help him,8 he let the mouse go.
Not long after this, the lion was caught in a hunter's net. The angry lion let out a roar that could be heard far and wide throughout the forest. Even the mouse heard 9 . The job of raising children is a tough one. Children don't come with an instruction handbook. And each child is different. So parents sometimes pull their hair out in frustration, not knowing what to do. But in raising children―as in all of life―what we do is influenced by our culture. 1 To Americans, the goal of parents is to help children stand on their own two feet. From infancy (幼年) ,each child may get his or her own room. As children grow, they gain more freedom to make their own choices. Teenagers choose their own forms of entertainment,as well as the friends to share them with. 2 Of course, many young adults still seek their parents' advice and approval for the choices they make. But once they "leave the nest" at around 18 to 21 years old, they want to be on their own,not "tied to their mother's apron strings".
The relationship between parents and children in America is very informal. American parents try to treat their children as individuals―not as extensions (延伸) of themselves. They allow them to realize their own dreams. Americans praise and encourage their children to give them the confidence to succeed. When children become adults, their relationship with their parents becomes more like a friendship among equals. 3 Even as adults, they respect and honor their parents.
Most young couples with children struggle with the issue of childcare. Mothers have traditionally stayed home with their children. In recent years, though,a growing trend is to put preschoolers in a daycare center so Mom can work. Many Americans have strong feelings about which type of arrangement is best. 4 Others insist that mothers are the best caregivers for children. A number of women are now leaving the workforce to become fulltime homemakers.
Being a parent is a tall order. 5 Some people are just deciding not to have children at all, since they're not sure it's worth it. But raising children means training the next generation and preserving our culture. What could be worth more than that?
A. Naturally then,American parents teach their children basic American values.
B. It takes patience, love, wisdom, courage and a good sense of humor to raise children.
C. Some argue that attending a daycare center can be a positive experience for children.
D. When they reach young adulthood, they choose their own careers and marriage partners.
E. Disciplining children is another area that American parents have different opinions about.
F. But contrary to popular belief, most adult Americans don't make their parents pay for
room and board when they come to visit.
G. When parents find out more about their children's school performance, daily activities and attitudes towards life, they can better direct kids towards positive things in life.

Last week our class voted what to do for our class outing:visit the Singapore Zoo or go to the Night Safari (夜間動(dòng)物園) .Our girls wanted to go to the zoo. And since we were in the minority,we lose to the boys, who all wanted to go to the safari. We got the admission rate for students, which was greatly since I still had enough money to buy a brochure about the park as well as anything at the souvenir shops. The safari was scary but a really fun. As we took the ride through the park's dark jungle,we could see the eye of many creatures looked out at us. Most of the animals there sleep when there is sunlight and waked up at night.
