A new survey says an English person says “sorry” up to eight times a day. They say this word up to 2 ,920 times a year and 233,600 times in a lifetime.

As a reporter,I went to London last month. While I was walking on the streets,a young man ran by,brushing against my handbag. He went on his way,but turned back and said “sorry” to me. Even in a rush,he didn't forget to say “sorry”.

The next day,I went shopping alone. After I bought some bread, the shopkeeper was passing me the change. But I wasn’t ready for it and a coin dropped onto the ground. “Sorry,Madam ,” he said. At the same time,he began to pick it up. I was surprised why he said “sorry” to me.

After I went back to my hotel,I got to know that when something unpleasant happens in daily life, the English don't care much about who is wrong. Perhaps that is why English people hardly quarrel on the buses or streets.
