55--64   BDCCA   BACDB

前者是planting new kinds of crops,這里是some  ________ways of making money, strange當(dāng)然是最合適的。而且接下來(lái)文中說(shuō)the most unusual of which…,所以這里選strange完全符合邏輯。
57.show off是炫耀的意思,而文中人們只是來(lái)觀看比賽,并沒(méi)有炫耀的意思,故A不可選;bring up意為“使注意”,用在這里沒(méi)什么意義;look forward意為盼望,如果說(shuō)人們盼望觀看比賽也可以講得通,但look forward后的to是介詞,后應(yīng)跟動(dòng)名詞,故D也不可選;turn up意為出現(xiàn),從意義上也講得通,語(yǔ)法上也無(wú)錯(cuò)誤,答案為C。
A項(xiàng)behind time“隨后”;B項(xiàng)in progress“在過(guò)程中”;D項(xiàng)in time“及時(shí)”均不合題意。答案為C。
答案為A。
答案為A。
63.for a while是一段時(shí)間;not for a while意為它們吃食物的時(shí)間很少,前一句是The sheep run surprisingly fast,與這句構(gòu)成轉(zhuǎn)折關(guān)系,盡管它們吃得很少,跑得卻特別快,答案為D。
A項(xiàng)observing“觀察”;D項(xiàng)inferring“推測(cè)”,均不正確。答案為B。

When I was small and my grandmother died, I couldn’t understand why I had no tears. But that night when my dad tried to cheer me up, my laugh turned into crying.
.   So it came as no surprise to learn that researchers believe crying and laughing come from the same part of the brain. Just as laughing has many health advantages, scientists are discovering that so, too, does crying.
Whatever it takes for us to reduce pressure is important to our emotional (情感的) health, and crying seems to study found that 85 percent of women and 73 percent of men report feeling better after crying.
Besides, tears attract help from other people. Researchers agree that when we cry, people around us become kinder and friendly and they are more ready to provide support and comfort. Tears also enable us to understand our emotions better; sometimes we don't even know we're very sad until we cry. We learn about our emotions through Crying, and then we can deal with them.
Just as crying can be healthy, not crying — holding back tears of anger, pain or suffering — can be bad for physical (身體的) health, Studies have shown that too much control of emotions can lead to high blood pressure, heart problems and some other illnesses. If you have a health problem, doctors will certainly not ask you to cry. But when you feel like crying, don't fight it. It's a natural — and healthy — emotional response (反應(yīng)).

In the course of working my way through school, I took many jobs I would rather forget. But none of these jobs was as dreadful as my job in an apple plant. The work was hard; the pay was poor; and, most of all, the working conditions were terrible.
First of all, the job made huge demands on my strength. For then hours a night, I took boxes that rolled down a metal track and piled them onto a truck. Each box contained twelve heavy bottles of apple juice. I once figured out that I was lifting an average of twelve tons of apple juice every night.
I would not have minded the difficulty of the work so much if the pay had not been so poor. I was paid the lowest wage of that time—two dollars an hour. Because of the low pay, I felt eager to get as much as possible. I usually worked twelve hours a night but did not take home much more than $ 100 a week.
But even more than the low pay, what made me unhappy was the working conditions. During work I was limited to two ten-minute breaks and an unpaid half hour for lunch. Most of my time was spent outside loading trucks with those heavy boxes in near-zero-degree temperatures. The steel floors of the trucks were like ice, which made my feet feel like stone. And after the production line shut down at night and most people left, I had to spend two hours alone cleaning the floor.
I stayed on the job for five months, all the while hating the difficulty of the work, the poor money, and the conditions under which I worked. By the time I left, I was determined never to go back there again.
49. Why did the writer have to take many jobs at that time?
A. To pay for his schooling.
B. To save for his future.
C. To support his family
D. To gain some experience
50. The following facts describe the terrible working conditions of the plant EXCEPT ______.
A. loading boxes in the freezing cold                     B. having limited time for breaks
C. working and studying at the same time        D. getting no pay for lunch time
51. What is the subject discussed in the text?
A. The writer’s unhappy school life.               B. The writer’s eagerness to earn money.
C. The writer’s experience to earn money.      D. The writer’s hard work in an apple plant.
52. How is the text organized?
A. Topic—Argument—Explanation
B. Opinion—Discussion—Description
C. Main idea—Comparison—Supporting examples
D. Introduction—Supporting examples—Conclusion

A week ago, I read When Money Talks, Listen! by Rich Ezzo. It took only about an hour to read, and that included one trip to the coffee maker and about 10 distractions (分心)from Alex, our cat, who thinks he is the center of the universe.
When I first received a copy, I thought it was a get-rich-quick type of publication. There is nothing wrong with that kind of book, but my mind just doesn’t chase after dreams of wealth. I figure that if God ever wants me to be rich, he knows where to find my purse.
When I began reading When Money Talks, Listen!, I was overjoyed to find that Rich Ezzo isn’t money hungry either. He, too, is hungry for things far more important than money.
I absolutely love this e-book. Why did I wait a week to write the review ? simple. I wanted to see if the impact it had on me could keep up. After reading the last word of the e-book, I totally agreed with the subtitle(副標(biāo)題)which promised to forever change the way we thought about money. I had so many thoughts running around my mind that I had to install a stop light to stop some while others made their way into the picture. I had a mental traffic jam, which only goes to show how slow the traffic usually is.
It has been a week and the impact is the same. I guarantee this is an e-book you’ll want to read. I urge you to visit the author’s website, MysterMoney. Com, and to download the e-book. You won’t
regret it.

Romance does not have to fizzle out(失。 in long-term relationships and progress into a companionship/friendship-type love, a new study has found. Romantic love can last a lifetime and lead to happier, healthier  1  .
"Many believe that   2 love is the same as passionate(多情的)love," said lead researcher Bianca P. Acevedo, PhD, then at Stony Brook University (currently at University of California, Santa Barbara). "It isn't. Romantic love has the intensity, engagement and sexual chemistry that passionate love has, minus the obsessive component(過(guò)度成分). Passionate or obsessive love includes   3 of uncertainty and anxiety. This kind of love   4 drive the shorter relationships but not the longer ones."
These findings   5 in the March issue of Review of General Psychology, published by the American Psychological Association.
Acevedo and co-researcher Arthur Aron, PhD, reviewed 25 studies with 6,070 individuals in short- and long-term relationships to    6 whether romantic love is associated with more satisfaction. To determine this, they   7 the relationships in each of the studies as romantic, passionate (romantic with obsession) or friendship-like love and categorized them as long- or short-term.
The researchers looked at 17 short-term relationship studies, which included 18- to 23-year-old college students who were   8  , dating or married, with the average relationship lasting less than four years. They also   9 at 10 long-term relationship studies including middle-aged couples who were typically married 10 years or more. Two of the   10 ncluded both long- and short-term relationships in which it was possible to distinguish the two samples.
The review found that those who reported greater romantic love were more   11 in both the short- and long-term relationships. Companion-like love was only moderately   12 with satisfaction in both short- and long-term relationships. And those who reported greater passionate love in their relationships were more satisfied in the short term   13 to the long term.
Couples who reported more satisfaction in their relationships also   14 being happier and having higher self-esteem.
Feeling that a partner is "there for you"   15 or a good relationship, Acevedo said, and facilitates(促進(jìn)) feelings of romantic love. On the other hand, "feelings of insecurity are generally associated with   16 satisfaction, and in some   17 may spark conflict in the relationship. This can manifest(表白) into obsessive love," she said.
This discovery may change people's   18 of what they want in long-term relationships. According to the authors, companionship love, which is what many couples see as the natural   19 of a successful relationship, may be an unnecessary compromise(妥協(xié)). "Couples should strive for love with all the trimmings(修剪)," Acevedo said. "And couples who've been together a long time and wish to get back their romantic edge should know it is an attainable(可達(dá)到的) goal that, like most good things in life,   20 energy and devotion."

My grandmother did not analyze (分析) how the lady treated her, or if the lady needed any cookies, or even if the lady would like the cookies. She didn’t think how much the lady has done for her. She simply began baking.
My Grandmother turned 94 last week and this I believe is her secret to life. My grandmother is generous (慷慨) and hard-working in a way that is rare for our time. She lives by a simple belief: if someone needs your help, you help. Never mind all the analyzing and thinking whether the person deserves or appreciates the help. My grandmother doesn’t sit around thinking about who might be making use of her: she simply does what is needed.
At 94, she is busy in life. She is making a blanket for a new great grandchild, and worried that I don’t have enough kitchen towels for my home. She is bringing soup to a sick neighbor, and teaching the new wife of her cousin (who is 88) how to cook Italian food.
My grandmother had every right to give up, but she didn’t — and amazingly life did bring her good things, like a husband with twinkling blue eyes who was much ahead of his time and believed that men should do an equal amount of cooking and cleaning in the home, three beautiful children (my father and two aunts), 22 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. My grandmother is not afraid to give someone she barely knows a bowl of soup. She never keeps herself out of the world.
