Back in 2003 I had a pet rabbit named Alaska.Due to the rules the landlord had set,he had to be kept in the basement(地下室).One night I went downstairs to feed him.Keep in mind I’ve always thought the basement was frightening. As I was facing his cage and putting the bowl of water inside,a big shadow appeared behind me,as if a big, tall man were standing behind me.I turned around and nobody was there, but I got the distinct(清晰的)feeling that I was being watched.I basically dropped the water bowl and ran upstairs shouting for my mom.Ever since then I can’t go down there alone.
Once I was trying to get to sleep, and I slept with the lights off.All of sudden I wanted to leave the room eagerly, but I couldn’t get out of my bed,I was too scared. The feeling of someone looking closely at me was so upset,I was physically afraid to move or breathe.I opened my curtains to let the street light in,thinking the light would help me feel better to move. That did nothing.I must have sat there on my bed for about fifteen minutes before I got up.I didn’t sleep in there that night.I’ve never felt anything so upset!
Then there are all the little things, like seeing things in the comer of my eye, hearing doors open or close when I’m home alone, and the feeling of being watched.Once when my sister wasn’t home(we share a room)I heard someone breathing from her bed and heard the sheets rustle(沙沙聲).Last week,I felt someone patting me in the shoulder when I was alone in my room.Sometimes I’ll be looking something and I’ll see one or more contorted(扭曲的),angry faces.
I realize that when one is looking for something to happen they can make things happen or imagine it.These are the moments in which I know nothing was imagined,so I wanted to share them and get your opinions. Thanks so much.

Thanksgiving Day seemed the most 43 day of the year for the mission, and so it was all arranged. We went to a store and 44 three shopping carts with toys. It was 45 we were celebrities (名人) when the employees and other shoppers knew what we were doing.
On Thanksgiving Day, as we got to St. Jude’s, I became 46 emotional, as my eyes were filled with tears of 47. After dropping the toys off, we arrived where six children were waiting anxiously to begin painting. To me, it was as though they weren’t sick, and to see them smile was the greatest gift I could have ever 48.

I was born in Somalia, and Italian is my mother tongue. 31 enough, soon after I arrived in London when I was 17, I was admitted to a sixth-form college. Some basic 44 which I would give to people who are interested in learning the language are:
1. Buy a good dictionary. 45 English learners use their dictionaries all the time.
2.46 English newspapers. Don’t forget to 47 the new words in your dictionary.
3. Listen to the radio 48 watching TV as listening to the radio helps you more.
4. Talk, talk and talk to 49 at anytime and anywhere.
And even though at times it may be embarrassing(尷尬的) to make 50,you will finally correct them and remember them. Soon you will start to become fluent.

If Mickey Mouse slips (滑倒)on a banana skin on TV, viewers laugh. But for ordinary people, falling is not   36 . For example, if you   37 over a stone or fall off your bike, you have to take days to get well. For   38 people, the result of a fall could be worse.

“Sending thank-you notes is becoming a lost art,” mourns May Mitchell, a syndicated columnist known as “Ms Demeanor” and author of six etiquette(禮節(jié)) books. In her view, each generation, compared with the one before, is losing a sense of consideration for other people. “Without respect,” she says, “you have conflict.”
Ms. Demeanor would be proud of me: I have figured out a way to ensure that my children always send thank-you notes. And such a gesture is important, says Ms. Demeanor, because “a grateful attitude is a tremendous life skill, an efficient and inexpensive way to set ourselves apart in the work force and in our adult lives. Teach your children that the habit of manners comes from inside---it’s an attitude based on respecting other people.”
A few years ago, as my children descended like piranhas (一種南美淡水魚,喜吞食或攻擊) on their presents under the Christmas tree, the only attitude I could see was greed. Where was the appreciation of time and effort?
A thank-you note should contain three things: an acknowledgement of the gift (Love the tie with the picture of a hose on it); a recognition of the time and effort spent to select it (You must have shopped all over the state find such a unique item!); a prediction of how you will use your gift or the way it has enhanced your life (I’ll be sure to wear it to the next Mr. Ed convention!).
So, five years ago, in one of my rare flashes of parental insight, I decided that the most appropriate time to teach this basic courtesy is while the tinsel (裝飾用光亮金屬) is hot. To the horror of my children, I announced that henceforth every gift received will be an occasion for a thank-you note written immediately, on the spot.
I have reluctantly given my kids the green light to send e-mail thank-you notes; though hand-lettered ones (at least to me) still seem friendlier. But pretty much any thank-you makes the gift giver feel special—just as, we hope, the recipient feels. It’s a gesture that perfectly captures the spirit of the holidays.

Some years ago on a hot summer day in south Florida a little boy decided to go for a swim in the old swimming lake behind his house.
In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out the back door, leaving behind his shoes, socks, and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swan toward the middle of the lake, an alligator(鱷魚) was swimming toward the shore.
His mother in the house was looking out the window and saw the two as they got closer and closer. In extreme fear, she ran toward the water, yelling(大叫) to her son as loudly as she could. Psychology(心理學(xué))tells us that many people hate to take risks. But it is good for us to take risks, especially (尤其)when the risk is to achieve a desired result. In that way, we become stronger and braver.
Our human nature should be to take risks, but some people just sit and wish they didn’t have the fear(恐懼)to move on. This is because of one or two failures in their lives. Please step out and don’t let the past hold you back from living life to the fullest. Move forward and move on!
In studying the psychology of taking risks, we find that human nature provides(提供) us with the desire (渴望)to experiment and take chances.
Risk taking is a great benefit(好處)that allowed our ancestors(祖先) to become stronger and stronger day by day. By taking risks they fought off enemies and discovered new territories(領(lǐng)土). This attitude has become a part of our modern culture. This psychological and biological (生物學(xué)上的) connection (聯(lián)系)creates an interesting connection between what is unsafe and what humans enjoy.
Getting in a car each day is a risk. Getting out of bed is a risk. There is such thing as perfect safety. We need to take risks so that we can complete (finish) many things. Astronauts take risks when they get inside a rocket; however, the things they achieve are great. Businessmen take a risk when they buy parts of a company. However, without doing that, they could not make more money.
We need to take risks so that we can gain something. It is impossible to move forward in life, earn money, enjoy a relationship, play a sport, or do anything else without taking a risk. It is all part of the game. It’s one of the most important parts of life.
小題1:Some people don’t want to take risks, mainly (主要)because ___________.

B.they feel pleased with the present life.
C.they have experienced some failures before
D.they show little interest in the strange world outside
小題2:What does the underlined part “This attitude” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Taking risks
B.Fighting off enemies
C.Discovering new territories
D.Becoming stronger and stronger
小題3: What can we infer from the passage?
A.Daily life is full of risks
B.The safest place has the greatest risk
C.People should take risks when they are young
D.We can always achieve our goals by taking risks
小題4: What would be the title for the passage?
