閱讀理解

閱讀下面的短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C、D)中,選出最佳選項。

Anne Whitmey, a sophomore (大二學(xué)生) at Colorado State University, first had a problem with taking tests when she began college. “I was always well prepared for my tests. Sometimes I studied for weeks before a test. Yet I would go in to take the test, only to find I could not answer the questions correctly. I would blank out because of nervousness and fear I couldn't think of the answers.”

The young student was experiencing something called test anxiety. Because a student worries and is uneasy about a test, his or her mind does not work as well as it usually does. The students can not write or think clearly because of the great nervousness. Although poor scores are often results of poor study habits, sometimes test anxiety causes low scores. Recently test anxiety has been recognized as a real problem, not just an excuse or a false explanation of lazy students.

Special university counseling (輔導(dǎo)) courses try to help students. In these courses, counselors try to help students by teaching them how to manage test anxiety. At some universities, students take tests to measure their anxiety. If the tests show their anxiety is high, the students can take short courses to help them deal with their nervousness. These courses teach students how to relax their bodies. By controlling their nervousness, they can let their minds work at ease and learn information which then comes out without difficulty in a test.

An expert at the University of California explains, “With almost all students, relaxation is felt after taking our program. Most of them have better control during their tests. Almost all have some improvements. With some, the improvement is very great.”

1.To “blank out” in the first paragraph is probably ________.

[ ]

A.to be like a blanket

B.to be sure of an answer

2.Poor scores are usually the results of ________, but can also be caused by test anxiety.

[ ]

A.poor hygienic (保健) habits

B.laziness

C.lack of sleep

D.inability to form good study habits

3.To deal with the problem of anxiety, students can ________.

[ ]

A.take a short course on anxiety

B.read about anxiety

C.understand their anxiety

D.take tests to prove they are not anxious

4.A university of California counselor said ________.

[ ]

A.a(chǎn)ll students could overcome the anxiety after taking a special test anxiety program

B.a(chǎn)lmost all students felt less nervous after taking a university of California counseling course

C.students found it difficult to improve even though they had taken a special test anxiety course

閱讀理解

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項。

Have you ever noticed, when looking at a map of the world, that the east coast of South America and the west coast of Africa look as though they might fit together? If you have, you are not alone. In 1965 the English scientist Sir Edward Bullard used a computer to test the fit of the two continents and found that at an ocean depth of 2,000 metres the match was very close indeed.

It seems too remarkable to be possible, but there is a lot of evidence (證據(jù)) to suggest that Africa was once joined to South America. For example, there is a belt of ancient rocks along the east coast of Brazil which is similar to the rocks across the South Atlantic in West Africa.

There is further evidence that existing land masses were once linked. The remains of a 400-to-500-million-year-old mountain chain has been found running down the eastern part of Greenland, western Scandinavia, and through north-west Scotland and Ireland, into western Canada, eventually finding their way to north-west Africa.

Then there is the evidence from life itself. In various parts of the world today the same animals and plants can be found on land masses separated by, in some cases, thousands of miles of oceans. Did they develop at the same time in two different places? It seems unlikely. Biologists believe that there must have been land bridges which have now sunk beneath the sea. Also fossils (化石) found in sedimentary rocks (fossils are the preserved remains of life forms) have allowed geologists to trace the same plants from South America, and Antarctica (北極) in rocks perhaps 300 million years old.

The ice that is now confined to (限制) the polar regions (北極或南極地區(qū)) has not always been so limited in extent. Indeed, during a period of the Earth's history known as the permocar-boniferors age (二疊石炭紀(jì)) about 250-350 million years ago there is evidence from the rocks that there were glaciers covering South America, parts of Africa, India, Australia, as well as Antarctica. On the other hand, in the northern hemisphere (北半球), there were deserts. If the continents spread out as they are today, it is hard to understand how this could be.

So there is considerable evidence to show whole continents moved apart, and naturally many people have tried to discover how and why whole land masses moved.

1.How many proofs does the author give in this passage?

[ ]

A.Three.
B.Four.
C.Six.
D.Seven.

2.The underlined part “…eventually finding their way to north-west Africa.” means ________.

[ ]

A.the mountain chain goes from the eastern part of Greenland to north-west Africa

B.it is a long way from the eastern pad of Greenland to north-west Africa

C.we can also find these remains in north-west Africa

D.we can find a way from the eastern part of Greenland to north-west Africa

3.What does the underlined word “glaciers”most probably mean?

[ ]

A.Ice.
B.Rocks.
C.Snow.
D.Forests.

4.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?

[ ]

A.There are deserts in the northern hemisphere.

B.We can find the same animals and plants on the two continents.

C.We can find the same remains of a 400-to-500-million-year-old mountain chain.

D.The same animals and plants developed at the same time in two different places.

5.Which would be the best title for this passage?

[ ]

A.The History of the Earth

B.The Movement of the Two Continents

C.The Continental Drift (漂流)

D.The Evidence of the Continental Drift
