bring sth.to an end使……
小題6: A
解析 由空格前的one can often be contacted(一個(gè)人經(jīng)常會(huì)被聯(lián)系到)與空格后的they’d rather not be可知,空格處應(yīng)表示“即使,盡管”(even if)。
小題10: A
小題11:A
shut down關(guān)閉,符合語(yǔ)境。shut out不讓……進(jìn)入;shut up住口;監(jiān)禁;shut in把……關(guān)在房?jī)?nèi)。
小題15: C
解析 由空格后的關(guān)鍵詞as well as disadvantages可知,應(yīng)填advantages(有利條件)。
小題17: A
小題19: A

Maybe you love them and want to pet every one you see.Or maybe you’re afraid of them and want to move to a dogfree neighborhood.Either way, dogs are a part of life.Millions of people have dogs as pets. You’ll see them all over town,in the city, country, and even when you’re on vacation.
Like many kinds of pets—no matter how small or cute they are—dogs need to be respected as animals that, under certain conditions, could hurt you.Nearly 5 million dog bites happen every year in the United States. No one wants a dog bite, but how do you prevent one?
One dog expert has come up with an easy way for kids to remember some tips to prevent dog bites. It spells “DOG SAFE”.
Don’t tease, please:Teasing a dog can make it angry enough to bite. For instance,if a dog has food or a toy, never try to take it away. You wouldn’t like it if someone took your snack(點(diǎn)心) while you were eating it!
Only pet with permission:Never pet a dog without asking the owner if it’s OK.Some dogs don’t like to be touched by strangers.
Give space:Little kids especially might run right up to a lovely dog and try to pet it or give it a hug.But dogs need space.Crowding a dog can frighten or anger the dog.
Slow down:Some dogs like to chase(追逐) and bite.Of course, you don’t want to be chased or bitten! The way to avoid it is to go slow around dogs.Never run toward them or away from them.If a dog you don’t know runs toward you, freeze. If you need to get away, back up slowly.
Always get help:You may want to bring home a dog that seems lost or injured. But animals who are lost or injured may be very frightened or in pain.Find a grownup instead who can decide how to care for the animal.
Fingers together:When feeding a dog a treat, put the treat in the palm of your hand and keep your fingers and thumb close together. Why?The dog is less likely to get confused about which is the treat—the doggie snack or your finger!
Even good dogs can bite:Some people are very surprised when their dog bites someone, but all dogs can bite.Avoid doing things that make dogs scared or angry, such as backing them into a corner or bothering them when they are sleeping.

With limited pocket money in hand, many Chinese college students are increasingly opting to live life “l(fā)ow cost”.One way to save money is teambuying.Online teambuying offers huge discounts and becomes popular on campus.
Li Jing,a student at China Youth University for Political Sciences, for example, says she often buys movie tickets on teambuying websites. But while they offer a good opportunity to save money,Li said she would “think twice before buying them from online stores”.Because many of them are “a bit chaotic (混亂的)”,and have fake goods mixed among them. Then why don’t the students just earn more pocket money by taking up parttime jobs?Guo Na,a teacher at the Communication University of China, said most college students were unlikely to choose workstudy programs to earn pocket money because of their intensive study schedules.

Most students find it difficult to deal with the expense of accommodation while traveling. So they choose to travel to cities where they have friends and live in their dorms. For instance,Ge Rui,a student at the Hebei University of Technology, has been to many cities where he has friends.“Friends can act as free guides, offer me free accommodation, give me valuable tour information, and broaden my mind at the same time,” he said.He also had friends from other cities coming over and living with him when they visited his city.

Three engineers and three accountants (會(huì)計(jì)) are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three accountants each buy tickets and watch as the three engineers buy only a single ticket.

If you want to see climate change, head north and keep going until you run out of globe. That is easier said than done. The Arctic (北極) is home to few people and covered in ice much of the year. But those who make their way to the icy seas of the Arctic Ocean will see a part of the planet that is warming and changing faster than anywhere else.
In September, scientists announced at the National Snow and Ice Data (數(shù)據(jù)) Center that Arctic summer sea ice had fallen to its second lowest level since 1979, and probably long before that. The Arctic has lost an area of ice greater than the area of all U.S. states east of the Mississippi River. And what ice remains appears to be getting thinner and weaker.
Nick Toberg and Till Wagner are polar ice scientists who are doing sea ice fieldwork. “There is plenty of data to suggest that the ice is becoming thinner as well as smaller in area,” they say.
The changes happening in the Arctic are a warning for the entire world .  As polar expert Walt
Meier puts it, “What happens in the Arctic doesn’t stay in the Arctic.”
Some scientists worry that Arctic sea ice may be going from a downward spiral (螺旋線(xiàn)) to a “death spiral”, one from which there is no escape. As more ice melts (融化), more dark open water appears. The darkness absorbs (吸收) more heat, which speeds up the pace of melting.
Until recently, many scientists thought it might take until the end of the century for the North Pole to become completely ice free during the summer. Now some believe it could happen by 2030 or even earlier. “The melting is happening faster in the real world than it has in the models,” says Nick Toberg.
小題1:The purpose of the first paragraph is to tell readers __________.
A.it’s difficult to arrive at the Arctic
B.it is too cold for people to live in the Arctic
C.what caused the climate change in the Arctic
D.we can see the most obvious climate change in the Arctic
小題2:From the second paragraph we can learn Arctic summer sea ice __________.
A.is still decreasing
B.began reducing in 1979
C.fell to its lowest level in September
D.is equal to the Mississippi River
小題3:What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.The changes don’t affect the Arctic at all.
B.The changes will only happen in the Arctic.
C.The changes happening in the Arctic will stop.
D.The changes will also affect other parts of the world.
小題4:Nick Toberg may agree that __________.
A.the ice in the North Pole will stop melting
B.the ice in the North Pole is melting faster than expected
C.the ice in the North Pole will melt before 2030 or even earlier
D.the ice in the North Pole will not disappear until the end of the century

Love is a telephone which always keeps silent when you are longing for a call, but rings when you are not ready for it. As a result, we often miss the sweetness from the other end.
Love is a telephone which is seldom program-controlled or directly dialed. You cannot get an immediate answer by a mere "hello", let alone go deep into your lover's heart by one call. Usually it had to be relayed by an operator, and you have to be patient in waiting. Destiny(命運(yùn)) is the operator of this phone, who is always irresponsible and fond of playing practical jokes to which she may make you a lifelong victim intentionally or unintentionally.
Love is a telephone which is always busy, When you are ready to die for love, you only find, to your disappointment, the line is already occupied by someone else, and you are greeted only by a busy line. This is an eternal regret handed down from generation to generation and you are only one of those who languish for(因…受煎熬) followers.
Love is telephone, but it is difficult to seize the center time for dialing, and you will let the opportunity slip if your call is either too early or too late.
Love is a telephone which is not always associated with happiness. Honeyed words are transmitted by sound waves, but when the lovers are brought together, the phone serves no purpose that many lovers observe that marriage is the doom of love.
Love is a telephone which, when you use it for the first time, makes you so nervous and excited that you either hold the receiver upside down or dial the wrong number. By the time you've calmed down, you will beat a loss to whom you should make the call.
Love is a telephone which often has crossed lines. And this usually happens to you unexpectedly. Your time will either cross or be crossed. Both cases are referred to as "triangle". Fortunately, all such occurrences are transient(轉(zhuǎn)瞬即逝的).

Police fired tear gas and arrested more than 5,000 passively resisting protestors Friday in an attempt to break up the largest antinuclear demonstration ever staged in the United States. More than 135,000 demonstrators confronted police on the construction site of a 1,000-megawatt nuclear power plant scheduled to provide power to most of southern New Hampshire. Organizers of the huge demonstration said, the protest was continuing despite the police actions. More demonstrators were arriving to keep up the pressure on state authorities to cancel the project. The demonstrator had charged that the project was unsafe in the densely populated area, would create thermal pollution in the bay, and had no acceptable means for disposing of its radioactive wasters. The demonstrations would go on until the jails and the courts were so overloaded that the state judicial system would collapse.
Governor Stanforth Thumper insisted that there would be no reconsideration of the power project and no delay in its construction set for completion in three years. “This project will begin on time and the people of this state will begin to receive its benefits on schedule. Those who break the law in misguided attempts to sabotage the project will be dealt with according to the law,” he said. And police called in reinforcements from all over the state to handle the disturbances.
The protests began before dawn Friday when several thousand demonstrators broke through police lines around the cordoned-off construction site. They carried placards that read “No Nukes is Good Nukes,” “Sunpower, Not Nuclear Power,” and “Stop Private Profits from Public Peril.” They defied police order to move from the area. Tear gas canisters fired by police failed to dislodge the protestors who had come prepared with their own gas masks or facecloths. Finally gas-masked and helmeted police charged into the crowd to drag off the demonstrators one by one. The protestors did not resist police, but refused to walk away under their own power. Those arrested would be charged with unlawful assembly, trespassing, and disturbing the peace.
