Dae Jang Geum 《大長(zhǎng)今》 is a hot new Korean TV series. Because of this series, my personal status (地位) and living standard have been greatly     . My girlfriend used to cook every evening. Well, now she does nothing but        in front of the TV when she’s not       , and orders me, “You --- go and make some instant noodles. Come and watch the play and just imagine we are enjoying Korean       .”
She once swore (發(fā)誓) to        all Korean dishes in Dae Jang Geum. So she ordered me to        the TV and record any details of Jang Geum’s cooking. But when she presented her version of Korean food, it was like the dog-meal. “You can        get things done if you find the right tool,” my girlfriend blamed her terrible kitchen performances on       . So I decided to       her a new kitchen knife. In a store, she became unusually        when making her selection. She finally picked one that was       Jang Geum’s. To prove that her slow knife skill was because of the blunt (鈍的) knife, she        her cutting. As a result, she hurt her fingers three times. Fortunately the knife was not        the salesman boasted (吹噓).
My girlfriend is a fan of Jang Geum’s Korean       . Not only did she talk about the dress every day, she also threatened to change my tie into a  butterfly knot(蝴蝶結(jié)) like the one on Jang Geum’s dress. Finally, I lost my patience and took her to a maternity (孕婦裝) shop where I recommended one suit to her, “Do you think it looks like a(n)       dress?”  Coincidently(巧合地) , her parents just happened to be shopping at the time. They were        when they saw what we were doing.
The Dae Jang Geum series        encouraging the youth to realize their ambition(雄心,抱負(fù)). However, it fails to realize my girlfriend’s.        being engaged in her work or study, she simply sits on the sofa every night, staring at       , a bag of chips in her hand. This situation has         even though the series is now over.

As the mobile phones so widely appear in our daily life, someone said it would be cool if you didn’t have a mobile phone nowadays. It might be true to some extent, but as for an adult, a mobile means contact. It connects your work, relatives, friends, etc. It should do great deeds for us.
Months ago, my uncle gave his dear son a phone, because my nephew’s school is far from his home. He can only come back once a term, and the phones haven’t been so expensive yet. However, someone has criticized (批評(píng)) the young people for playing on mobiles, but not using. They are fond of sending messages, taking pictures and so on. They buy expensive, high level and fashion types for showing. They play on the mobiles day in and day out ….. Holy cow!
So, what happens to youngsters around you? Do they have a phone? What do they use it for? Do you think it’s necessary for teenagers who are still in school to have a phone?
POSTER 1:
In my view, mobile phones are only a tool for communication purpose, just like any other tools which have the potential (潛力) to be misused. In my opinion, I can see young people using it for security reason, emergency purpose, etc. If the parents can afford to pay big phone bills for their kids, well, that’s their business, like the old saying goes, “l(fā)ive and let live.”
--- Mary Smith
POSTER 2:
From psychological (心理學(xué)的) point of view, teenagers are more likely to be relaxed or pleasure-oriented. They would like to make something different. Buying brands that are considered “COOL” is important to them. They want others to like and admire themselves, and sometimes, even exaggerate(夸大)their own personality to show off. This can be seen as a kind of psychology during this certain range of age.
--- Dick Gates
Currently, people should tend to be more sociable, and age should not be seen as a barrier for teenagers to own their phones. They also need to set trends on the social circuit (社交圈). But here parents should play an important role in controlling their children about how to use the phones more properly.
小題1: We can learn from the first sentence of the passage that ________.
A.people admire those who don’t have mobile phones
B.people don’t like to have mobile phones nowadays
C.mobile phones are too popular among people now
D.mobile phones are not as useful as before
小題2: Why are some teenagers criticized according to the second paragraph?
A.They use mobile phones for playing instead of using.
B.They don’t use mobile phones for their study.
C.They play “Holy Cow” games in mobile phones.
D.They buy expensive, fashionable mobile phones.
小題3:By saying “l(fā)ive and let live”, Mary Smith means that _________.
A.teenagers shouldn’t use mobile phones
B.parents should buy mobile phones for their children
C.teenagers can use mobile phones if their parents don’t mind
D.teenagers should use mobile phones for communication
小題4:What is Dick Gates’ attitude towards whether teenagers should use mobile phones?
A.Supportive.B.Objective. (客觀的)
C.Negative. (消極的)D.Uninterested.

Have you ever noticed what happens to an idea once you express it?Just talking about it or writing it down causes you to make it clear in your own mind. How can you use this to increase your brain power?Start writing.
By putting thoughts into words, you are telling yourself the logic behind what you think, feel,or only partly understand. Often, explaining a thought is the process of understanding. In other words, you increase your brain power by exercising your “explain power”.
Another benefit of writing is that it helps you remember. Many,if not most, highly productive people are always taking notes. You can try keeping it all in your head, but if you keep a journal(日志)of your ideas the next time you’re working on a big project, you’ll probably have more success.
Want to understand a topic?Write a book about it. That’s an extreme example, but if you are learning something new, write a letter to a friend about it,and you will understand it better. Want to invent something?Write an explanation of the problem—why you want to solve it,and why it is worth solving, and you’re halfway there.
Writers don’t always write because they clearly understand something beforehand. Often, they write about something because they want to understand it. You can do the same. Writing will help bring you to an understanding. Give it a try.

A.has understood it very well

Cold weather can be hard on pets, just like it can be hard on people. Sometimes owners forget that their cats are just as used to the warm shelter as they are. Some owners will leave their animals outside for a long period of time, thinking that all animals are used to living outdoors. This can put their pets in danger of serious illness. There are things you can do to keep your animal warm and safe.
Keep your pets inside as much as you can when the weather is bad. If you have to take them out, stay outside with them. When you’re cold enough to go inside, they probably are too. If you must leave them outside for a long time, make sure they have a warm, solid shelter against the wind, thick bedding, and plenty of non-frozen water.
If left alone outside, dogs and cats can be very smart in their search for warm shelter. They can dig into snow banks or hide somewhere. Watch them closely when they are left outdoors, and provide them with shelter of good quality. Keep an eye on your pet’s water. Sometimes owners don’t realize that a water bowl has frozen and their pet can’t get anything to drink. Animals that don’t have clean and unfrozen water may drink dirty water outside, which may contain something unhealthy for them.
小題1:What do we learn about pets from Paragraph 1?
A.They are often forgotten by their owners.
B.They are used to living outdoors.

小題3: If pets are left on their own outdoors in cold weather, they may ___.

A.To solve a problem.
B.To give practical advice.

Everyone wants to have a healthy heart. Still, heart diseases affect more than 1 in 3 adults in the United States. The good news is that some simple, everyday habits can make a big difference in your ability to live a healthy lifestyle. Here are some worst habits for your heart, and how to avoid them.
Watching TV
Sitting for hours on end increases your risk of heart attack and stroke(中風(fēng)),“some exercise doesn’t make up for the time you sit,”says Harmony R. Reynolds, Why? The lack of movement may affect blood levels of fats and sugars. Dr. Reynolds advises walking around regularly and, if you’re at work, standing up to talk on the phone.
Leaving hostility and depression unchecked
Are you feeling stressed or sad? It can do harm to your heart. While everyone feels this way some of the time, how you handle these emotions can affect your heart health.“Those with stress are in greater danger; research has shown a benefit to laughter and social support,” Dr. Reynolds says. “And it’s helpful to be able to go to someone and talk about your problems.”
Cutting off from the world
It's no secret that on some days, other human beings can seem annoying and too difficult to get along with.
However, it makes sense to strengthen your connections to the ones you actually like. People with stronger connections to family, friends, and society in general tend to live longer, healthier lives.
Everyone needs alone time, but you should still reach out to others and keep in touch whenever you can.
Drinking (too much) alcohol
Sure, studies suggest a small amount of alcohol may be good for your heart. However, too many of us drink over. Too much alcohol is linked to a greater risk of high blood pressure, high levels of blood fats, and heart failure.

It is often said that you cannot “teach an old dog new tricks”, but three New Zealand dogs have decided to prove otherwise by learning a skill --- driving a car!
What's even more impressive is that the three who have become skilled in just eight weeks are not special dogs that belong to some rich owners, but abandoned ones at New Zealand's SPCA.
To get their training started, 10-month old Porter, 18-month-old Monty and one-year-old Ginny were selected from a pool of seven potential candidates and moved to Animal Q, a talent agency that teaches animals tricks for movies and television shows.
The driving classes began with teaching the dogs some basic driving techniques like turning the steering wheels(方向盤(pán))and applying the brakes. After that the dogs practiced everything they had learnt behind the wheels of a motorized(裝上發(fā)動(dòng)機(jī)的)car. Then finally, it was time for the big test--- driving a real car!
Human cars are not really built for four-legged animals, so the car they drove was adjusted so that the dogs could sit comfortably and easily reach the steering wheel with their paws.
Though they all seemed to do very well, the real test came on Monday night when Monty, the best driver of the three, showed his great driving skill on live television.
Why would the SPCA go through so much trouble to highlight the skills of homeless dogs?  The reason is to show that adopting a dog from a shelter does not mean owners are getting a pet that is worse than one purchased from a keeper. The CEO of the SPCA is hoping that this unusual event will be enough to convince the residents of New Zealand to consider them, when searching for a pet.
We surely hope so, meanwhile we are almost certain that these three pioneers have at least landed their names in the Guinness World Records, creating a category that probably does not even exist today!
小題1:Who do the three dogs belong to?

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:不詳 題型:閱讀理解

There is an old Chinese proverb that states "One Generation plants the trees; another gets the shade," and this is how it should be with mothers and daughters. The relationship between a mother and daughter is sometimes confusing. If close, the relationship can be similar to friendship. However, the mother and daughter relationship has unique characteristics that distinguish it from a friendship. These characteristics include a hierarchy (等級(jí)) of responsibility and unconditional love, which preclude mothers and daughters from being best friends.
Marina, 27 years old, says, "I love spending time with my mom, but I wouldn't consider her my best friend. Best friends don't pay for your wedding. Best friends don't remind you how they carried you in their body and gave you life! Best friends don't tell you how wise they are because they have been alive at least 20 years longer than you.” This doesn't mean that the mother and daughter relationship can't be very close and satisfying.
While some adult relationships are still troubled, many find them to be extremely rewarding.     This generation of mothers and adult daughters has a lot in common which increases the likelihood of shared companionship. Mothers and daughters have always shared the common experience of being homemakers, responsible for maintaining and passing on family values and traditions. Today contemporary mothers and daughters also share the experience of the workforce and technology, which may bring them even closer together.
Best friends may or may not continue to be best friends, but for better or worse, the mother and daughter relationship is permanent, even if for some unfortunate reason they aren't speaking. The mother and child relationship is closer than any other. There is not an equal relationship. Daughters should not feel responsible for their mother's emotional well-being. It isn’t that they don't care deeply about their mothers. It's just that they shouldn't be burdened with their mother's well being.
The mother and daughter relationship is a relationship that is not replaceable by any other. Mothers never stop being mothers, which includes frequently wanting to protect their daughters and often feeling responsible for their happiness. Mother always "trumps" friend.
小題1:The underlined word “preclude” in Paragraph 1 probably means “_________”.
A.differB.preventC.benefitD.change
小題2:Why do many mothers and adult daughters keep a rewarding relationship?
A.Because they have a lot in common.
B.Because they have common family values.
C.Because they have no generation gap.
D.Because they keep a constant relationship.
小題3:What do we know from the passage?
A.The mother and daughter relationship can be replaced by a best friend.
B.A mother’s love brings her and her daughter a close friendship.
C.The mother and daughter relationship goes beyond best friends’ friendship.
D.Marina has a troubled relationship with her mother.
小題4:The author proves his statements mainly by _________.
A.listing dataB.giving explanationsC.quoting sayingsD.making examples
小題5:What is the best title for the passage?
A.How to be a good mother and daughter
B.Who is a mother’s best friend?
C.A friend in need is a friend indeed.
D.Can a mother be a daughter’s best friend?

Accidents happen almost every day. Some accidents are not serious and some are. We read about such accidents nearly every day in the newspapers. It is wrong for people to think that accidents take place only on the roads or highways, or even at work places. Home accidents are just as common. Because very few home accidents are reported, people come to think that there are few accidents which happen in homes.
There have been many cases where people fall to their deaths from high rise flats. Children often fall over while coming down the stairs. Old people may slip (滑跤) on wet floors if they are not careful.
Nowadays there are a lot of modern electrical appliances (電器) such as rice cookers which make life easy for the modern house wives. These appliances can kill if they are not used in the proper way. Gas stoves (煤氣灶) used for cooking are also dangerous if they are not properly used. They may cause burns or, in more serious cases, even fires.
But all such accidents can be stopped if we are careful and follow simple rules of safety. For example, it is unwise for people to try repairing their own electrical appliances if they do not know how to. It is safer to get them repaired by an electrician (電工).
小題1:Accidents take place ____.
A.mostly in homes
B.mostly on roads and highways
C.mostly in factories
D.a(chǎn)lmost everywhere
小題2:Which of the following accidents may NOT happen in homes?
