Singing songs is fun,but is it also useful? For learning English pronunciation (發(fā)音) ,Mr Joe thinks songs are the most useful way to learn. At the same time ? you can learn some new words and phrases while singing songs. Mr Joe has used songs to help himself learn French ? Spanish ? Japanese and Chinese. You should do the same.

Some words used in songs are not everyday English ? so you have to be careful how you use song lyrics (歌詞) when you speak. Most words and sentences are very useful. When you can do that, you have learned something that you will never forget!

Some good songs to listen to are from the Beatles,John Denver and the Carpenters. Their songs are not too fast and the lyrics are close to normal spoken English. Just for fun,you can try Mr Joe's favourite singer, B. B. King. His songs are not easy at all!If you can understand even 80% of “Why I Sing the Blues”,you are a very advanced student.

If you become good at singing English songs ? you can try to go to karaoke and sing with your friends. When you are able to sing a song in another language ? even if you don11 sing so beautifully, you will really impress (給......深刻印象) other people!

You will have a lot of reading to do in this grade of year. You can do more of it in less time if you learn to read fast.

Perhaps you have been told about some habits which keep a person from reading fast and have been strongly asked to break those habits which you might have.

Do you still have any of these bad habits? Check yourself by answering “yes” or “no” to these questions.

(1 ) Do you move your lips (嘴唇) when reading silently?

(2) Do you point to words with your finger (手指) as you read?

(3) Do you move your head from side to side as you read?

(4) Do you read one word at a time?

Our environment is getting worse and worse with the increase of the world population, which affects the environment in two ways. Firstly, the limited energy resources will be used up much faster. Secondly, the increasing population creates more pollution, another severe problem that needs to be solved. Both problems are long-term ones because actions taken now show their result slowly over many years. They are also urgent because delays in action can lead to great suffering and social problems.
