I was offered several part-time jobs at university. Finally I decided to give one of them a go. Now I work in a dining hall on campus(校園). My main duties are to serve food and wash dishes.
I discovered I would have to stand still for at least three hours at a time and was afraid it was not going to be as much fun as I had thought. Smiling all the time and remembering all the strange food names have been a challenge(挑戰(zhàn)), too.
I have had really funny experiences. One of the sauces is called "marinara" which is a kind of tomato-based sauce like salsa(辣茄醬). Before I knew what it was, someone asked me to give him the sauce, and I replied: "What? The marijuana(大麻) sauce?" He was astonished. Marijuana is an illegal(非法的 ) drug and has nothing to do with sauce. It was quite embarrassing(使人尷尬的)! I have never forgotten the word "marinara" since then.
I also had to make a wrap(卷餅) for the first time. I had tasted Mexican wraps many times in China, but making one was a different matter. I could feel my face was burning with sweat and embarrassment as I broke the thin wraps again and again while people were waiting impatiently. Mexican wraps taste great when they're soft, but I do wish they could be made thicker and harder so they wouldn't break so easily.
My favorite part of the job is working in the kitchen. I hold the water cannon(水槍) like a policeman about to fight with "criminals” ----the dirty dishes. It's quite exciting to feel the water rushing out of the pipe. I usually get thoroughly(徹底地) soaked, but it feels good, a bit like taking a shower. Sometimes our boss allows us to play music to cheer us up. I often hum along to the music while washing dishes.
This is my first experience of being a student worker. It is hard work, but it's turning out to be quite fun.

閱讀下列短文,根據(jù)短中的信息完成文后表格。(每空一詞)
Hi, everyone! I will graduate from high school in June. Some of my foreign friends have asked me about the process of entering an American university(綜合性大學(xué)), so here I will tell you how it works.
First you have to choose which university you want to go to. This is not easy, as there are over 3,000 universities and colleges in the USA. Do you want to stay near home, or do you want to go far away? What do you want to study? Once you have decided what is important to you, I would suggest choosing about five schools to apply to (申請(qǐng)). This way, if one or two schools do not accept you, you still have a chance of being accepted by the others.
After you have chosen which schools you would like to apply to, you have to finish an application form for each one. You also need to ask two or three of your teachers to write letters to the universities explaining why you would be a good university student. For many people, the worst part of applying for university is taking tests. Depending on which college or university you want to go to, you have to take either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which tests your language, math and writing skills, or the American College Test (ACT), which tests your knowledge in English, math, science and history.
After you have been accepted to a university, you need to be able to pay for your study there. To help students pay for their education, the government offers loans(貸款)which students do not have to repay until after they graduate. Scholarships(獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金)are also available to students who have excellent grades, who are good players or who have financial(財(cái)政)needs. Because university tuition is so expensive, many students also work part-time while they are at university.
University courses are quite different from classes at high school. You only go to each class two or three times a week, you have to study a lot more outside of class. Classes are much bigger too and some can have as many as 200 students in them. There will be many new things to learn, but I think I will enjoy university.

Do you want to make friends with others? Please remember to keep your words all the time. In this way, people around you will get along well with you.
To make friends and keep them, you have to keep your words. If you agree to meet someone at a certain time, you should arrive at the place on time or a little earlier. If you agree to help others, you must do it. Of course if there is something unexpected(沒(méi)有預(yù)料到的) happening and you can’t do what you have agreed to do, your friends will understand this.

I’ve been back at school         nearly four weeks. I’m very glad to tell you that great        have taken place in our school this term. First of all, we’re asked to “clean our plates” when having our meals and say         to wasting. Some of us used to order more than what we could eat. That was a big waste of food. Now we need to        the food we order. We should also stop wasting in some other ways. For example, we should turn off the lights when we         the classroom. And our school has opened up some fields for us to learn how to grow vegetables. Each class is given a small garden and our class has decided to grow some tomatoes and beans (豆類(lèi)) in our         time. I think that’ll be very interesting. Maybe I’ll be able to         you some beans we’ve grown by ourselves next time! What’s more, we have only two classes in the afternoon         we have more time for after school activities. I’m one of the traffic safety volunteers in our school. After school, we take turns to go to the streets near our school and ask people to       the traffic rules.
I think we are having a different school life now!
Please write back soon and tell ______ more about your school.
Yours,
Wang Wei
