Dear new moms,
You should teach your children manners (禮儀) as soon as your children can understand what you’re saying. When your children do something right, let them know. When your children do something wrong, tell them how they should do it and why.
Here are some basic manners for children:
1. Wait for their turn and don’t interrupt other people when they are speaking. Tell them to wait until someone finishes speaking, and then ask questions.
2. Always greet the people who come over to your house. You can teach your children to shake hands with grown-ups (成年人) who come over, but it’s not necessary to shake hands with other children. Your children should always say “hello” or “hi” when someone comes to your home so that the guest (客人) feels welcome.
3. Say “please” and “Thank you” often. And say “You’re welcome” to answer others’ “Thank you”.
4. After playing a game, no matter what the result is, be pleased. If your children win, tell them not to show off (炫耀), but to be kind. If they lose, tell them not to get mad and tell the other children that they did a good job or speak well of them.
Yours
Dr. Dave

Good food photography makes the food look fresh, so many dishes have stand-ins, just as movie stars do. “When I get my lights and camera set up, I remove the stand-in and put in the real thing,” explains Ray Webber, who photographs food for magazine advertisements. “Sometimes I have to brush the food with its juices because it may have dried out a bit. And when I’m shooting something like tomatoes, I always carry an atomizer(噴霧器) of water to spray(噴灑) them with dew(水珠) just before I shoot.”
Shooting food outdoors has special problems. “ I’m always worrying about flies or worms(蟲) coming up a glass,” Webber explains. “I am also worried that someday a dog will come up from behind and run off with the food.” Once Webber was shooting a piece of cheese outdoors and needed something to add to its colour. Finally he found a plant with lovely blue flowers. When the photo appeared, several people were horrified(驚駭?shù)?, because the plant was Deadly Nightshade which can be very dangerous.
