Your junior high school years are coming to an end. After the big exam, most of you will go on to study in a senior school. What are you expecting from senior high school? Let’s hear some teen readers talk about it.
Zhou Zhijie, 15, from Shanghai:
I have heard that although Senior 3 is a hard year, Senior 1 and Senior 2 are less stressful. I hope there’ll be time then to enjoy sports. There will be plenty to see. Especially, the World Cup in Brazil is coming. We can watch football matches. I’m sure I’ll really enjoy it.
Jin Xi, 16, from Harbin, Heilongjiang:
I really enjoy science. I visit many science exhibitions. I am interested in UFOs, too. I’m crazy about making model planes, although I’m not very good at it because I don’t really have enough scientific knowledge. I’ll be learning more science in senior high school. In a word, sometime in the future I’m going to build an excellent model plane!
Wang Yaling, 15, from Xiamen, Fujian:
I hope I can be taller in senior high school. I’m only 155cm. Many people grow faster in senior and I hope I will, too. I want to be 162cm. But I’m not sure about that, since most girls in my family don’t grow taller than 160cm. I hope I’m different.
Zhang Fang, 15, from Hebi, Henan:
I expect that I’ll make more friends in senior high school. I study in a middle school in the country. Most of my classmates live nearby. In senior high school, I’ll meet different people from different areas. I hope I can learn new things from them.

As we know, it is not easy to build a satellite(衛(wèi)星). Building a traditional satellite usually takes years. The costs can be as high as $250 million or more. Most members of the design teams have worked in the field for a long time. They hold advanced degrees(學(xué)歷) in math, science, or engineering.

But things are changing. High costs, unusual educational needs and long start-up times are no longer an obstacle(障礙) to space exploration. The scientists have developed a new type of tiny, inexpensive earth-orbiting(軌道) satellite.
So far, college students have built and launched(發(fā)射) several cube-shaped satellites, or CubeSats. At least 15 more are ready to go. Those already in orbit take pictures, collect information and send it back to the earth, just as regular satellites do.
But you might not even have to wait until you get to college to start designing and building your own satellite. A new program called KatySat aims to get teenagers to take part in. When kids understand what satellites can do, the kinds of ideas they’ll come up with may be countless.
Education isn’t the only aim of CubeSats because these tiny, technology-filled boxes are  inexpensive to build and can be put together quickly, they’re perfect for testing new technologies that might one day be used on major space tasks.
The biggest challenge now is to find ways to bring the satellites back to the earth after a year or two. Or space junk could gradually increase because CubeSats become more popular.
Nowadays, college and high school students are getting a chance to learn what it takes to explore in space. Someday—perhaps a lot sooner that you imaging—you might get to design, build and launch your own satellite. If you do, you’re sure to have fun. And you might also get crazy about science for life.

Mark began to introduce the guest speaker to the listeners, but then stopped for a while. He had forgotten her name.
Barbara hid her valuable things when she went on vacation. When she came back, she couldn’t remember where she’d put them.
Perhaps you’ve had such experiences like these. Most people have. But most of them haven’t realized that they have a memory problem. Neither do they know a simple but important fact: Memory can be improved. If you just accept that, the following will show you how.
First, relax. If you are over worried about something, you’ll forget it. If you keep telling yourself that your memory is bad, your mind will come to believe it and you won’t remember things. When you forget something, don’t follow up with saying like “Oh, my god! I always forget things! ” Such words will have a bad result on you and your memory.
But relaxing isn’t enough. To improve your memory, you’ll need to take an active role. Like your body, your memory can be made strong through exercise. Look for opportunities to exercise your memory. For example, if you’re learning a language, try to actively remember a lot of new words.
If you don’t take notice of things actively, you won’t remember them. So, you can make pictures of what you see in your mind every day. For example, don’t just put your keys down! If you want to find them again, make a mind picture of the place where you’re putting them.

In a US study, researchers measured (測量) the happiness of 4739 people over 20 years. The study found that a person’s happiness depends on the happiness of people he connects with. Surprisingly, it also found that happiness spreads not only between direct friends, but also among friends of your friends’ friends! And those good feelings seem to have the greatest influence among friends of the same sex (性別).
“People with more good friends are less likely to develop depression (情緒低落) and worry,” says Dr. Toupey Luft. “Though you can’t choose your family or workmates, you do have control over friendships.” With a little effort, you can add more positive (正面的,積極的) relationships to your social circle. Here’re the suggestions:
“Nobody is all positive or all negative,” says Luft. “But there are people you may feel more positive. Use that as your way to check people and keep records.” When spending time with others, pay attention to your feeling. Are you feeling tired and unhappy? To help you keep records, Luft suggests taking a moment when you get home to write down what your feeling is when around them.
While it’s great to gather with positive friends, it’s also good to stay with others in the same life situations. “But if you’re all just complaining (抱怨) and nothing is changing, it’s not healthy,” says Luft. Are your friends negative, or are you doing most of the complaining? Considering the answers to these questions can help you decide if you want to stand in front of them. Or you could let the relationship disappear slowly.
Sometimes your hobbies can lead to true friendships. Check out newspapers and websites to find a group or class for something you enjoy. These friends can always be there for you and can care each other through difficulties, illness and death.
Not into groups? Look for individual (個人的) communication instead. Luft says, “Set small goals, such as having coffee with one new person, and develop friendship according to a plan. If someone suggests going for lunch sometime, set a date.”
“If you’re feeling disappointed (失望) with a friend, try talking about what you both need,” says Luft. For example, tell her what you want during hard times in your lives. While your friend may need to be left alone, you may want caring phone calls. With some friends you laugh and have fun together at the movies—and that can be enough. With others, you pay attention to your deep connection.
小題1:What does your happiness depend on, according to the passage?
A.How people you connect with feel.
B.How many friends you have.
C.What situation you are in now.
D.What kind of friends you have.
小題2:What does the first suggestion want us to do?
A.To measure our happiness.
B.To check people around.
C.To join a group for hobbies.
D.To leave negative friends.
小題3:Which of the following is true?
A.We often have many friends during good times but few during hard times.
B.It’s necessary to complain about something but not right to do so for long.
C.Joining a group can bring better friendship than making individual friends.
D.All the suggestions tell us to add positive relationship to our social circle.
小題4:The underlined sentence in the last paragraph means that ______.
A.when your friend is sad, you should call her up
B.when your friend leaves you, you need comfort
C.friends’ needs may be quite different sometimes
D.people may behave differently during hard times

A PLANE crashed (墜機) in Libya on May 12, killing 103 people on board. The only survivor is a 10-year-old Dutch boy.
This is not the only example of a crash in which everyone but a child died. A 12-year-old girl was the only person to survive a 2009 air crash in the Indian Ocean. When a plane crashed over Sudan in 2003, only a 3-year-old boy survived.
It's a question that leaves safety experts puzzled. So farthere is not enoughhard evidence forthem to answer withany certainty.
Although unclear, there arereasons to suggestthat children maycope (應(yīng)對) better than others.
Professor Ed Galea at the University of Greenwich, suggested children would be cocooned(被緊緊抱住) within their seat and therefore might be less probably to receive injuries.
"With an adult with their head above the seat and legs on the floor, they will receive some kind of injury landing on your head and legs," he told the BBC.
"It would be miraculous (奇跡的) to survive that, but there have been cases(情況) of people falling into trees. A smaller body would mean it's more possible the tree would break your fall," he explained.
Studies found other factors (因素), besides luck, influence the chances of surviving a crash.
One is seating. A study of plane crashed conducted by Poplar Mechanics found that people sitting toward the back of the plane were more probably to survive than those sitting toward the front. A survey conducted by researchers at the University of Greenwich in the UK found that what matters most is how close you are to an exit(出口). Sit in five rows(排) of an exit, and you've got better-than-even chances of surviving. Sit in six rows or more away, and your chances are less than 50-50.
Other factors for surviving a plane crash include wearing a seat belt, paying attention to flight instructions and staying alert(警覺) during taking off and landing. And of course, don't fly with airlines that are the most pobably to crash.
