It’s duty of every man to work. The life of a lazy man is of no use to himself and to others. If the man is too lazy to work, he will usually become a not useful man. Everyone, when he is young, should learn some useful work.
But it’s not enough for a man to learn some kind of work. He should put his heart and soul (精力) into his work, and not waste his free time. “Work while you work and play while you play” is as good rule for young people as old.
There is no better to help to diligence than the habit of early rising, and this, just like all other good habits, is most easily formed in youth (青年). There is an English say “Lost time never returns.” This means that everybody must be diligent, and make good use of time. One must study hard when one is young so that one can make great progress, succeed in life and become useful to one’s country. So we can say that diligence is the mother of success.

When do you think of a forest, what do you see? Just trees Or do you see many other things, such as singing birds, colorful plants and wild flowers?
The forest is a whole world of its own. It is full of many different living things (生物). But even thoughthey are all different, they have one thing in common: they all need each other in order to live on.
The trees feed the forest "people" by making food in their leaves; by using sunlight to join water and minerals(礦物) from the soil and air. Their deep network of roots Joins the soil together and stops it from  dying out, making it possible for living things to live in it. Human beings (人類) are like the living things in the forest. We need one another in order to live. We need the farmers to grow our food, railroad and truck drivers to bring it to our shops and clerks (售貨員) to sell it to us. We need people to prepare our food and
cook it and others to take our waste things away. Then, of course, we need doctors, nurses, government  leaders, mailmen, telephone operators, and many others. We also need other human beings in another way.
We need people for friendship, to talk over our problems, exchange ideas. Think how lonely and unhappy you would be if you lived all alone.
Life is a matter of giving and taking. We need to help other people as much as we need other people to help us. Think what a good feeling you have when you have done something for someone else. You know,  being a volunteer is so great!
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,判斷下列句子正誤。正確的用“A”表示,不正確的用“B”表示。

小題2:The water and minerals join from the soil and air by using sunlight.
小題3:According to the writer, human beings need only farmers.
小題4:When I have done something for someone else, I feel happy.

Rivers are one of our most important natural resources (資源). Many of the world's great cities are located(坐落) on rivers, and almost every country has at least one river running through it that plays an important role in the lives of its people.
Since the beginning of the history, people have used rivers for transportation(運輸). The longest one in the United States is the Mississippi. The lifeline of Egypt is the Nile. To the people of India, the Gangs is great, but it is also important for transportation; Ships can travel along it for a thousand miles. Other great rivers are the Congo in Africa and the Mekong in southeast Asia. The greatest of all for navigation (航海), however, is the Amazon in Brazil. It is so wide and so deep that large ships can go about two thousand miles upon it.
Besides transportation, rivers give food, water to drink, water for crops(莊稼), and chances for fun and entertainment for the people who live along their banks. In order to increase(增加) the supply of crops, engineers sometimes build a dam (大壩) across a river and let a lake from behind the dam. Then people can use the water not only to irrigate (灌溉) their fields but also to make electricity for their homes and industries.
However, large cities and industries that are located upon rivers often make problems. As the cities grow in size and industries increase in number, the water in the rivers becomes polluted with chemicals(化學物質) and other materials. People are learning the importance, however, of doing more to keep their rivers clean if they want to enjoy the benefits (利益) of this natural resource.
小題1:The greatest river for navigation is ___________.

Since the 1970s, scientists have been searching for ways to connect the brain with computers. Braincomputer interface(BCI) technology could help people with disabilities send commands to machines.
Recently, two scientists, Jose Millan and Michele Tavella from the Federal Polytehnic School in Lausanne, Switzerland, show a small robotic wheelchair directed by a person’s thoughts.
In the laboratory, Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right hand. He could even talk as he watched the vehicle and guided it with his thoughts.
“Our brain has billions of body cells(細胞). These send signals through the spinal cord(脊髓) to the body part to give us the ability to move. But spinal cord injuries(脊柱受傷) or other conditions can prevent these weak electrical signals from reaching the body part.” Tavella says. “Our system allows disabled people to communicate with outer world and also to control machines.”
The scientists designed a special cap for the user. This head cover picks up the signals from the scalp(頭皮) and sends them to a computer. The computer finds meanings of the signals and commands the wheelchair with an engine. The wheelchair also has two cameras that tell objects in its path. They help the computer react to commands from the brain.
Prof. Millan , the team leader, says scientists keep improving the computer software that finds meanings of brain signals and turns them into simple commands.” The practical possibilities that BCI technology offers to disabled people can be grouped in two kinds: communication, and controlling objects. One example is this wheelchair.”
He says his team has set two goals. One is testing with real patients, so as to prove that this is a technology they can get advantages from. And the other is sure that they can use the technology for long.

小題3:The team will test with real patients to_________.
A.make money from them
B.prove the technology useful to them
C.make them live longer
D.learn about their physical condition

What's going to happen in the future? Will robots control our planet? Will computers become smarter than us? Not likely. But here are some things that scientists say are most likely to happen in 10 to 30 years from now, according to the BBC.
Digital money

We used to pay with cash(現(xiàn)金) for everything we bought. Now when we use a credit card(信用卡) to shop online, money is spent without us seeing it. That means we are already using digital money. Using a card is much easier than searching our pockets for change. It is also safer than carrying a lot of cash.
When ATM cards were first introduced, they were not accepted everywhere. But now it's hard to live without them. It's reported that people in Sweden completely stopped using cash last year, and the US might be next.
Bionic(仿生的) eye
It's no longer something only in a science fiction movie. People who are blind may have a chance to get their sight back—by wearing bionic eyes.
A blind eye can no longer sense light, but a bionic eye can use a camera to “see” the environment and send data(數(shù)據(jù)) to the mind. Now the bionic eye only allows patients to see lights and unclear shapes. A high resolution(高清的) image could be just a few years away.
Self-driving cars
Unlike a human driver, a self-driving car won't get distracted(分鐘) by phone call, the radio or something outside the window. Sensors(探測器) and cameras on the car would allow it to stick reduce the number of road accidents. You could even take a nap while the car driver itself. In the future, driverless cars would be widely accepted.
小題1:________ has stopped using cash completely.
A.Sweden B.ATM C.BBC D.America
小題2:What does the writer mainly tell us about digital money?
A.We use digital money to shop online without paying money.
B.Digital money is most likely to be used instead of cash.
C.Using cash is easier and safer than a credit card.
D.ATM cards are always popular.
小題3:Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.Bionic eyes only appear in the science fiction film.
B.Human drivers won't get distracted by something outside.
C.The blind wearing bionic eyes may see clearly in the future.
D.There will be no road accidents at all if self-driving cars are used.
小題4:From the report, we can learn some information about ________.
A.culture and art
B.industry and farming
C.science and technology
D.traffic and journey
小題5:Which of the following can be predicted(預測) from the passage?
A.There would be a number of self-driving
B.The blind could use cameras to see things around.
C.We would live a hard life with digital money.
D.Robots would control the world.
