China is a nation of etiquette (禮儀) .Chinese people are among the most hospitable people in the world. If foreigners visit a Chinese family, they would be surprised at the warmth that they would receive as guests.

When you visit a Chinese family, the host usually makes tea for you. Then he will serve you snacks (小吃) like biscuits or candy. Someone in the family will also chat with you, never letting you feel lonely.

At the same time, other family members will prepare a meal for you. Chinese people treat (款待) their guests with a big meal. They always present more food than the guest can eat. On the table, the guests must be the first to eat. Perhaps one of the things that surprises a western guest most is that the Chinese host likes to pick food for visitors, which won’t happen at western tables. The Chinese family go out of their way to make you feel at home. As you are done eating, the host usually says, “It seems that you didn't eat much. Please have more. ” Although you tell them you are full, they still put more food in your bowl.

Being warm and hospitable has long been an important part of Chinese culture and tradition. As Confucius (孔子) said thousands of years ago:

To meet friends from a far

     How happy we are !

   C. Because it won't happen in western countries.

() 4. What the Chinese family do for the guests is to .

   A. make them feel at home

   B. show their wealth

   C. make them feel uncomfortable

() 5. What's the meaning of the words by Confucius at the end of the passage?

1. A猜詞題。詞義猜測(cè)的解題技巧首先要定位到文章所在的句子 “ Chinese people are among the most hospitable people in the world.”

定位到與題干相關(guān)的信息句,即第二段第一句和第二句“When you visit a Chinese family, the host usually makes tea for you. Then he will serve you snacks (小吃) like biscuits or candy. ”由此可知答案為   C.

3. C細(xì)節(jié)題。解答細(xì)節(jié)題通常第一步是進(jìn)行定位,找到與題干相吳的信息句,本題的相關(guān)句是第三段的第三行 MPerhaps one of the things that surprises a western guest most is that the Chinese host likes to pick food for visitors, which won’t happen at western tables.

4. A細(xì)節(jié)題。 相關(guān)信息句定位到第三段的“The Chinese family go out of their way to make you feel at home. ”其中“go out of one's way to do sth."意思是竭盡全力做某事,而“to make you feel at home”與選項(xiàng)A一致。

根據(jù)文章主旨和夫子之言“To meet friends from afar How happy we are”基本可以確定選   B.

In today's world of modem science and medicine,a more traditional treatment is once again becoming popular—animal friendship.

It is now well-known that people with problems such as heart disease or cancer live longer and get better more quickly if they have pets. Keeping pets lowers blood pressure and makes people less worried. Animals are increasingly important in treating older people who have memory loss and other brain problems. These people often feel nervous and upset. Activities with animals help them improve their physical condition and also give them joy, entertainment and loving friendship.

Here is a case that shows the benefits of animals. John was a six-year-old mute. He had no physical problems. He just refused to talk. His older cousin,Ned,had a parrot called Sally, and John used to visit it. When he arrived,Net used to say ,“ Hi,John! ” We all know parrots copy what they hear. After a few visits,Sally began saying “ Hi,John! ” when John came into the room. Then, one day,John turned to the parrot and replied “ Hi,Sally!” Staying with the parrot encouraged John to begin talking.

Another use of animal helpers is in schools. In some cases, animals are used to help children with physical or personal problems. In other cases, they are used to teach children to get on and share with others, and even to teach them about animals.

If you want to know more about animal helper programmes, you can get in touch with organizations like Riding for the Disabled or do a search under “animal therapy” on the Internet. You don't have to be an animal trainer or a doctor to join in.

In the Charles E. Johnson Elementary School in New York, there is a special radio. It gives people warnings (警報(bào)) about bad weather.

One day, there came a sound from the radio. This sound brought the piece of news: a heavy storm was coming. William Tomic, principal (校長(zhǎng)) of the school, asked teachers to bring children indoors and put them in a safe place at once.
