This is my story. I’m French. I fly planes in Africa.
One day, when I was flying a very small plane, there was something wrong with the engine(發(fā)動機(jī)).The engine stopped. The plane was light and I could land it safely on the ground.
Where was I? I couldn’t see any houses or farms. I had a bottle of water and two oranges. I had a map, too. The first day, I didn’t eat anything. In the evening, I began walking. When the sun went down, the air got cold. Where should I walk? I looked at my map and the moon and the stars. I walked and walked.
The sun came up on the morning of the second day. It was too hot to walk. In the evening, I began walk. I ate an orange and drank a little water.
The third day, I ate the second orange. The bottle of water was now empty. There were no houses, no trees, and no water.
The hot sun came up on the fourth day. Would this be the last day on the earth? I didn’t know. What was that? A bird? A man on a hill? No! Yes, it was! I walked to him excitedly and said hello to him. He looked at me and then gave me some water. I drank and drank...

If the eyes are the windows of the soul, then the body is the mirror of our feelings. If we are feeling great, we may give our body signals(信號). If we look at someone else’s body, we can often tell how thy are feeling by their body signals. So reading body language signals is a great tool in daily communication.
In case(假使) you don’t think that learning how to read and use body language is important, here are some numbers for you. 7% of the information we receive is from what people actually say, and 38% of the information we receive is from the tone(語氣) and the speed of their voice; while 55% of the information we receive is from their body language.
These non-verbal(非語言的) signals will help you a lot, but you still need to focus on what people are saying. If you focus too much on their body language signals, you and the person may feel uncomfortable. It is useful to be able to read people’s body language, but it is useful to learn how to send the right signals and avoid the wrong signals too. Body language may be given several interpretations. Many signals have different meanings, depending on the person and the situation. Be sure of it when you are trying to read a body language signal.
Facial expression is one of the body languages. Facial expressions are one or more movements on a person’s face, such as frowning(皺眉),raising your eyebrows and rolling(旋轉(zhuǎn)) your eyes. Scientists say that humans have 80 muscles(肌肉) on their faces. These muscles can make 7.000 different facial expressions. These expressions can be put into six classes. They are happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, fear and disgust(厭惡)。
For example, when people think a certain food tastes disgusting, they usually make a funny face. When people are surprised, they often raise their eyebrows and open their eyes wide.
If people can read facial expressions correctly, they may be better at knowing other people’s feelings. That can help people make more friends. However, sometimes people have to be careful when reading others’ faces. It’s rude to stare at others for a long time.

Every year in English-speaking countries, people list the most popular names. Here are some examples. In the United States at the moment, the three most popular names are Emily, Emma, and Madison. For boys, they are Michael, Joshua and Mathew. In Britain parents today might call their little girl Grace, Jessica or Ruby. If they have a little boy, they could call him Jack, Thomas or Oliver.
In China names have very clear meanings. If a girl is called Mei, her name means “beautiful”. If a boy is called “Wu”, his name means “ like a soldier”. Names in English-speaking countries are like this too. The girl’s name Joy is probably chosen because the parents with their daughter to be joyful and bring joy to others. If a girl is Ruby, it may be because of the beautiful valuable stone.

Nowadays, there are more and more TV talent shows. They are very popular all over China.
These talent shows give everyone an opportunity to show off their talents. For some lucky people, these talent shows may make them famous, and can even make them rich. However, there are also many bad sides. First, some young people just imitate(模仿) their favorite stars. They may forget about their own styles. Second, young people spend too much time on such TV shows. They always dream of being a star. So they spend less time on their studies.
In my opinion, these shows are social(社會的) activities. Young people can take part in these activities to get social experience. But they should know that the chance of becoming famous is very small for most people. They should know that they should work hard at something more important, their school work. In short, you can do what you like, but you should know what is important and what is not.

Many people would like to watch sport matches. First, you need to know about audience manners.
Most sporting arenas(競技場) have rules for audience written on the back of the tickets. Read your ticket carefully before you arrive. Try to reach your seat half an hour before the start of the event and don’t leave when a game is in progress. When you leave, remember to take away your soft drink bottle and other rubbish.
During exciting games, try to control yourself. Don’t criticize(批評)the performance of players and coaches. Be careful with your words, since some may cause anger among other people in the audience
Applause(鼓掌)is a special form of body language you can use to communicate with players, but you should do it properly. When players first appear, clap your hands together to welcome them, but don’t go on for too long. After an excellent performance, applaud warmly. If someone fails, your applause will help encourage them.
Applause is not welcome, however, while players need to keep their concentration. Various sports have various rules for the audience.
Enjoy artistic gymnastics silently. But lots of cheering can really help basketball and football players. Snooker and table tennis courtside behavior includes a ban on flash photography. Mobile phones are not allowed in shooting centers.
To be good audience, you should spend time learning the specific(明確的) rules and the culture of each event.

Different cultures make different families. For example, there are differences in the way Chinese and Americans raise children.
First, Chinese and American families have different attitudes towards independence (獨立). Each Chinese child has been considered to be the apple of parents’ eyes. It is not surprising to see Chinese parents always helping their children with getting dressed, having meals, bathing, and other things. American parents, on the other hand, teach their children how to do things alone from childhood.
Second, most Chinese parents often make their children have extra classes, such as piano, drawing, or singing lessons. Parents want their children to develop in an all-round way and be better students than other children. The problem is that their children may not be interested in these classes. American parents try to respect (尊重) their children’s interests and usually don’t make them do what they don’t like.
Third, there is a difference in the way parents in China and American treat mistakes that children make. Many Chinese people believe in the saying, “Spare the rod, spoil the child (不打不成器).” When Chinese parents see their children make mistakes, they often get very angry, some even hit them instead of making them realize their mistakes. This affects the children’s growth and the forming of their character, and also makes the generations gap (代溝) wide. American parents think it is common for people to make mistakes because mistakes are a part of life. They often say, “It’s OK to make mistakes. Making mistakes helps you learn.” They help their children deal with mistakes by giving them ideas about how to turn mistakes into learning opportunities (機(jī)會).
Families in China and America are quite different, and one way may seem better than the other, but it is better to think about whether the parents fit the family or not instead of talking about which one is wrong or right.
