Nowadays, there are more and more TV talent shows. They are very popular all over China.
These talent shows give everyone an opportunity to show off their talents. For some lucky people, these talent shows may make them famous, and can even make them rich. However, there are also many bad sides. First, some young people just imitate(模仿) their favorite stars. They may forget about their own styles. Second, young people spend too much time on such TV shows. They always dream of being a star. So they spend less time on their studies.
In my opinion, these shows are social(社會(huì)的) activities. Young people can take part in these activities to get social experience. But they should know that the chance of becoming famous is very small for most people. They should know that they should work hard at something more important, their school work. In short, you can do what you like, but you should know what is important and what is not.

It’s true that studying abroad can help students develop themselves. Their foreign language skills will be improved and it may be easier to find jobs.

When the sun went down, the air got cold. Where should I walk? I looked at my map and the moon and the stars. I walked and walked.

“Life’s a long, long journey(旅程)” so we are told, and most of us would not set off on a journey, even a short one, without some idea of where we wanted to go. Yet many people travel on life’s journey with no sense of direction at all.
Setting personal goals can give your life a sense of direction. Goal setting is used by top sports players, successful business people and achievers in all fields. Before you set personal goals, think about what you want to achieve with your life.
Try to set goals in some of the following categories.
Education—Will you achieve the educational goals after finishing high-school? Are you still growing and learning?
Family—What kind of relationship(關(guān)系)do you want with your parents and other family members?
Creative—Do you want to achieve any artistic goals?
Career—What job do you want to take when you grow up? What do you need to make your dream come true?
Public Service—Do you want to make the world a better place?
Physical—Are you fit enough to do the things you want to do?
Pleasure—How do you want to enjoy yourself?
Write down the goals and think about them carefully. Are they realistic? When will you be able to achieve them?
To help make the process (過(guò)程) more manageable, divide your goals into smaller tasks. For example, if you want to reach a main goal in five years, set a three-year goal, a one-year goal, a three-month goal and a one-month goal. Then create a daily To-Do List of things that you should do today. When a goal is achieved, take the time to enjoy your success. This helps you build the self-confidence.
Remember, your goals can change as time goes on. But be sure your goals are things you hope to achieve, not what your parents, family or teachers want.
小題1:Is life a long journey according to the passage?
小題2: Why do you need to set your life goal?
小題3:What should you consider when you set a family goal?
小題4:How can we achieve the main goal easily?
小題5:What does the writer want to tell us?

Street Markets Around the World
There are many ways of shopping. You can shop by telephone, by post or through your home computer, but for many people, the most exciting way to shop is also the most traditional—at a street market. You can find markets anywhere in the world. Here are four of them:
There are many “floating markets” in Asia; perhaps the most unusual is Thailand(泰國(guó)), at a place called Damned Saduak. It’s open from six in the morning to the noon every day. People sell fresh fruit from their boats.
Many Belgians(比利時(shí)人) say that the Grand Place is the most beautiful square in the world. It’s the home of a colourful flower market. It’s open every day except Monday. On Monday, instead of flowers, there’s a wonderful bird market.
One of the world’s famous markets is in Mexico City(墨西哥城)—the Sonora Market. You can buy toys, birds, herbs and medicine. There’re all kinds of things. It’s open every day from early in the morning till late at night.
