Whenever the sun dropped and the blue sky came up, my father and I used to climb the mountain near my house. Walking together, my father and I used to have a lot of conversations through which I learned lessons from his experiences. He always told me, "You should have goals ( 目標) like climbing the mountain. " Without the mountain-climbing that we both enjoyed, we couldn't have enough time to spend together because my father was very busy. I really got a lot from mountain-climbing. It gave me time to talk with my father and to be in deep thought as well as develop my patience(耐力).
Once we climbed a very high mountain. It was so challenging for me because I was only ten years old. During the first few hours of climbing, I enjoyed the flowers and trees, and the birds' singing; but as time passed, I got a pain in both of my legs. I wanted to quit climbing. In fact, I hated it at that moment, but my father said to me, "You can always see a beautiful sky at the top of the mountain, but you can't see it before you reach the top. Only there at the top, can you see all of the nice things, just like in life. "
At that time, I was too young to understand his words. But later after that, I got new hope and confidence. I found myself standing at the top of the mountain. And there, I could see the whole of the sky, which was as clear as crystal (水晶).

We've got two children; Jack is seven, and his little brother Ed is four. They're quite close, and play a lot together. They quarrel quite a lot too, but they enjoy each other's company(陪伴).
Unluckily, we live quite a long way away from the others of the family. It's an eight-hour drive to get to their grandparents, but we usually visit them during the school holidays.
Jack reads well, but he hasn't started to read for pleasure yet―he thinks reading is only something you have to do at school. I think the main problem is that he watches far too much television.
He also likes playing cards and computer games. And riding his bike. I don't let him ride it on the streets, but we often go to the park, where it's safer.
He doesn't eat too many sweets, because he's getting his adult teeth(恒牙) now, and he knows they've got to last him for life. He seems more interested in saving his pocket money and counting it than spending it.
59.How many people are there in Jack's family? ________________

Dear Harry Potter,
Hi! I'm Kevin from India. I really feel
lucky to write you a letter.
Though I live far away from your world, I think
we are a little alike, You are a great wizard (奇才). You have done lots of magical things to be amazed
at. Although I don't do magic. I do believe in it.
Well, I'm also a wizard at school. And I can often get As,
but I am not a bookworm. I like to play jokes in class, which sometimes
make my teachers angry. I also have many friends. They often get me into and
out of trouble. No matter what has happened, we still get close together.
Oh, I almost forget to tell you that our school
is almost like yours, Hogwarts. It's a special one for excellent students. We
have modern classes and technology lessons. But when much is given, much is
expected, so I often stay up late just to finish my homework. It really makes
me tired and bored.
Luckily, I can read your stories in my free
time. I feel like I know you. You have a mind of your own. You are young, but

was Mother's Day. John was so busy with his work that he couldn't go back home.
When he passed by a flower shop in the evening, an idea came to his mind.
"I'll send Mum some roses (玫瑰). "
While John was picking his flowers, a young man
went inside. "How many roses can I get for only five
dollars, Madam?" he asked. The assistant was trying to tell him roses were
as expensive as forty dollars a dozen (一打). Maybe he
would be happy with carnations(康乃馨).
"No, I have to have red roses. " He said, "My mum was badly ill last year and I
didn't get to spend much time with her. Now I want to get something special, it

After hearing it, John said he would pay the

the assistant to send them to his mother.
As he walked out, he felt nice. Suddenly he saw

business is one where you need to stay on top. Cooks should be trained. You

So he spends more time in reading. Every time he gets new ideas from the
book, he brings them into his work.

Mobile homes, pulled by specially designed (設(shè)計) trucks have been increasing in numbers all over the
United States. Often, driving along, you can see some mobile homes high on a
hill. Some stand under trees along a river or a lake. They're wonderfully built
homes. Sometimes they're as much as 40 feet long, with two to five rooms, and
you can find many things you need in them. When you park your mobile home,
water, electricity power and telephones are connected, and you can enjoy
yourself there.
The fact that these homes can be moved doesn't
mean that they do move all the time. Sometimes their owners stay for years in
one place, plant gardens, build walls and so on. These
homes are often quite expensive. Some even cost $ 20,000.
Why does a family choose to live in such a home?
Well, it's comfortable, easy to keep clean, easy to keep warm, no need to
paint. What's more, the fast increase of mobile homes in numbers has something
to do with the job uncertainty (不穩(wěn)定性). Nobody knows
what will happen tomorrow. If a factory closes down, you may be trapped with
the house you can't sell. However, if you have a mobile home, you can move on
easily.
The greatest selling attraction of these mobile
homes is that they can be improved every year. If you're doing well, you may
change a new model just as you do with a car. There is a ready market for used
ones, so the price of the mobile homes is higher than that of automobiles (汽車).
56. From the passage, we know that mobile homes_______.

all the time
C. can provide something people need D. must stand only high on a hill

homes.
A. The job uncertainty
B. The strange design
C. The low
price
D. The high speed
58. Which of the following may NOT attract people to buy mobile homes?
A. The new model appears every year. B. Walls can be
easily built around them.
C. They don't need to
be painted. D. They can be moved here and there.
59. We can infer that the increase of the mobile homes shows_______.
A. great changes in people's living style (方式)
B. great interest in developing new things
C. some problems in people's life
D. people's hope for
new jobs
60. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. How to Choose a Mobile Home B. The
Developing Mobile Homes
C. The Uses of Mobile Homes D.

The
British are known as people who love to stand in line, but a new research(調(diào)查) shows that the British are only
about average (平均數(shù)) at waiting politely in a queue. The
French are the best. It's the Germans who don't have a good habit (習(xí)慣) of standing in line. They can't stand to wait for anything. They
begin to shout loudly and noisily if the line doesn't seem to be moving fast
enough. Sadly it never moves fast enough for them.
The experts studied 940 people across Europe. They
watched secretly as they waited in line-to get tickets, to order fast food and
to wait for the bus. They found people who are good at forming (排成) queues feel that they move along faster. For example, in Britain,
the average waiting at a queue needs about three and a half minutes. In Germany
or Sweden people hate waiting in line. In fact, people spend double the time as
the British in queues. They get to the front of the queue without thinking
about others, so they waste others' time.
The expert who did the research had asked a person to
break into a queue to see what people would do. In Britain, people shouted
loudly at him, but when he said," I' m terribly sorry. I didn't realize
there was a queue. Do go before me. " People
smiled and said. "Oh, that's all right, one more won't matter much.
"It was also found in France, where 80% of the
people didn't mind standing in line. only if they were
treated politely. While in Germany everyone was angry and wore an unhappy face.
The expert said, "If only they could learn from the British and the French
to think of queuing as an exercise in making the best of an unhappy thing, they
might find that the queue then moves faster. "
61. The research shows that the people in _______ are the most polite in
standing in line.
A.
Sweden B.
Britain C.
France D. Germany
62. The Germans spend more time than the British in queues because they
_______.

queuing

?
A. The British didn't care about
the queue jumper.
B. The Germans were angry with the
queue jumper.

jumper badly.
D. The
Swedish enjoyed themselves while queuing.
64. From the last sentence we know the expert wished the Germans could_______.
A. have a good habit of standing in line
B. save others' time while queuing
C. move quickly when
queuing D. take exercise
in queues
65. The result of the research shows that_______.
A. people in Europe hate waiting in line

D. people good at standing in line think they move along
faster
