Carrots are grown on farms and in small family gardens all over the world. They are easy to grow and easy to harvest. They have a pleasing taste.
When people think about carrots, a picture of a long, thin, orange―coloured vegetable usually comes to mind. But carrots come in many different sizes and shapes, and not all carrots are orange.
Carrots should be grown in sandy soil that does not hold water for a long time. The soil also should have no rocks. Weather, soil, and age affect the way carrots taste. Experts say warm days, cool nights, and the right soil temperature are the best conditions for growing great carrots. Most people do not know that carrots can be grown during the winter months. If the winter is not cold enough to freeze the ground, yon can grow and harvest carrots the same way as you do during the summer months. If the ground does freeze ill your part of the world, just cover your carrot garden with some plant leaves or straw. This will prevent the ground from freezing.
Carrots need time to produce and develop their sugar. This gives them their taste. If they are harvested too early, they will not have enough sugar. However, carrots become wood-1ike and lose their sweetness if you wait too long to harvest them from the ground. The best way to decide if a carrot is ready to be harvested is by its colour. Usually, the brighter the colour, the better the taste.

The animals thought life would be better if they could also have this thing. So they had a meeting to talk about how to get that burning thing. The meeting lasted for a few days and in the end the animals decided to send one of them to the people to ask for a little piece of it. At first Mouse was chosen to do it, but many animals didn’t agree, because he stole things and people hated him. Then some animals thought that Panda could do it. But neither the other animals nor he himself agreed. “I’m too heavy. I can’t walk fast.” Panda said. At last many animals thought Rooster was a good one to be sent because he was good at talking and he looked beautiful. All the animals thought men would like him.
Rooster agreed to go. All the animals were glad and they had a farewell party to send him off. “I’ll try my best to bring the burning thing back to the mountains. I’m sure I can do it,” he said. He did not ask for a piece of it to take back to the animals, because he found that there was so much food lying around people’s houses, and he enjoyed the food and forgot what he had come for.
Men liked Rooster because he sang beautifully and he woke them up in the early morning. They let him in and out of their houses. They threw him food. So Rooster stayed with men.
