On a hot summer day in late August, I sought shade and a cool drink at a waterfront cafe on a Greek island. Over hundred degrees in 21 air. Crowded. Tempers(脾氣)of both the tourists and waiters had 22 to meet the situation, making it a rather quarrelsome environment(環(huán)境).
At the table next to mine sat an attractive, 23 couple, waiting for 24 . They held hands, whispered, kissed, and laughed. Suddenly they stood, picked up their 25 and stepped together 26 the edge of where they were sitting to place the table in the sea water. The man stepped 27 for the two chairs. He politely 28 his lady in the knee-deep water and then sat down himself. All people around laughed and cheered.
29 appeared. He paused for just a second, walked into the water to 30 the table and take their 31 , and then walked back to the 32 cheers of the rest of his 33 . Minutes later he returned carrying a bottle of wine and two glasses. Without pausing, he went
34 into the water to 35 the wine. The couple toasted(祝酒)each other, the waiter and the crowd. And the crowd 36 by cheering and throwing flowers to them. Three other tables 37 to have lunch in the water. The place was now filled with laughter.
One doesn’t step into water in one’s best summer clothes. Why not?
Customers are not served 38 . Why not?

23 根據(jù)whispered, laughed可排除A、D。他們并沒關(guān)注別人,所以B也不對(duì),下文的in one’s best clothes可證實(shí)此判斷。
24 此處有服務(wù)之意。
25 本句較長(zhǎng),攻破長(zhǎng)句的辦法是確定主要框架:they stood, picked… and stepped… to place…; 這樣就可看出拿起的東西后來放在水中了,所以應(yīng)該選桌子。
38 聯(lián)系并列的上一句和上面的have lunch in the water,可知通常不會(huì)在水里上菜,所以C對(duì)!

Each time a city building is set up, the grass in that spot and trees that once reached up to the sky are replaced by a tar (柏油) roof. In addition to that, roads, parking lots, and yet more buildings are being constructed. The total lost green space can have a very real effect on a city’s air temperature, air quality and energy costs. On a summer day in most American cities, a tar roof can feel like the inside of an oven. But what if we could replace the hot roof of each skyscraper or building in a city with grass or a garden?
Whether it holds vegetable gardens, wildflowers, or meadow grasses, a green roof can lower the temperature above a building by 60 degrees, which can reduce the building’s energy costs. If used more widely, green roofs could decrease a city’s total energy costs, reduce polluted air from power plant , and improve air quality and public health. But that’s not all — green roofs are a great way to deal with water management in urban areas with overwhelmed sewerage (排污) systems, and actually extend the life time of the roof itself. And green roofs do something else: They beautify the city — whether you’re on the 3rd floor or the 30th. Now that’s a great achievement.
The environmental nonprofit group Earth Pledge is promoting a Green Roofs progamme. To learn more about how to create a green roof — and the benefits it will provide — visit its website at EarthPledge.com.
This passage is most likely to appear in “______” in a webpage.
A. City Environment B. True Stories C. Home and Garden D. Family Health
The construction of more city buildings leads to ______.

What en tar roofs are replaced with green ones, ______.
A. low temperature improves one’s health B. everyone tends to plant vegetables in roof gardens
C. people need more sewerage systems D. the greenness adds to the beauty of city environment
You can visit EarthPledge.com with the purpose of ______.
A. building a home garden B. offering money to the group

I got my first driver's license(執(zhí)照)in 1953 by taking driver education in my first year at Central High School in Charlotte,North Carolina. Four years later when it was time to renew my license I was a married woman. Henry and I were living in Baltimore,Maryland. Two weeks before my 20th birthday,Henry drove me to the motor vehicle office on a hot July afternoon. When I got to the office and showed to the man behind the counter my North Carolina driver’ s license, ready to renew, the man told me that I was under age by Maryland law since I was not yet 21.“Mr.Henry Smith, your husband, will have to sign for you,”he said.
I argued, pointing to a very large belly(肚子)of mine,“I am married. I am having a baby. Why should I have to have someone sign for me to drive?”He answered coldly,“It’s the law, madam.”
Henry encouraged me to calm down, just go ahead and get the license and be done with it. “No,” I said. I refused to have him sign for me. So I left without a Maryland license.
I called the North Carolina Motor Vehicle Office and renewed my NC license by mail—using my name Susan Brown. And thus it was for the next twelve years. Since Henry was in the army I could drive under my home state license. By the time Henry left the army we were once again living in Maryland, and I had to take the Maryland driver’ s exam. As a young girl growing up in the 1930s, I always wanted to fly a plane, but back then it was almost unheard of for a woman to do that. I got a taste of that dream in 2001, when my husband arranged for me to ride in a hot air balloon for my birthday. But the experience turned out to be very dull. Around that time, I told my husband that I wanted to skydive. So when our retirement community announced that they were having an essay competition and the topic was an experience of a lifetime that you wanted to have, I decided to write about my dream.
In the essay, I wrote about my desire to skydive, stating George Brush Sr. did it at age 80. Why not me? I was just 84 and in pretty good health. A year went by and I heard nothing. But then at a community party in late April 2009, they announced that I was one of the winners. I just couldn’t believe it. Inspired by this, I decided to realize my dream, even though some of my family members and my doctor were against it.
On June 11, 2009, nearly 40 of my family and friends gathered in the area close to where I would land while I headed up in the airplane. My instructor, Jay, guided me through the experience. The plane was the noisiest one I had ever been in, but I wasn’t frightened—I was really just looking forward to the experience. When we reached 13,000 feet, Jay instructed me to throw myself out of the plane. When we first hit the air, the wind was so strong that I could hardly breathe. For a second I thought, “What have I gotten myself into?” But then everything got calmer. We were in a free fall for about a minute before Jay opened the parachute(降落傘), then we just floated downward for about five minutes. Being up in the clouds and looking at the view below was unlike anything I have ever felt—much better than the hot air balloon. I was just enjoying it.
Skydiving was really one of the greatest experiences of my life. I hope other people will look at me and realize that you don’t stop living just because you are 84 years old. If there’s something you want to experience, look into it. If it’s something that is possible, make it happen.
1.What happened to the author in 2001?
A. She flew an airplane.
B. She entered a competition.
C. She went on a hot air balloon ride.
2.The author mentioned George Bush Sr. in her essay to .
A. make her argument persuasive
B. show her admiration for him
C. compare their health condition
D. build up her own reputation
3. How did the author feel immediately after she jumped out of the plane?
A. Excited. B. Regretful. C. Nervous. D. Scared.
4.What did the author enjoy most when she was skydiving?
A. The beautiful clouds. B. The wonderful view.
C. The company of Jay. D. The one-minute free fall.
5.What is the best title of the passage?
A. Impossible is nothing. B. A dream made come true.
