A lazy Susan is an addition to a table that is designed to assist in moving food from one person to another while dining. This is achieved through the use of a turntable (轉(zhuǎn)盤), which usually moves the food in a circle when it is pushed by those at the table. In this way, the food never has to be picked up and passed around the table. Instead, it remains in place on the lazy Susan.
A lazy Susan may also be a part of a kitchen cabinet (櫥柜). In this sense, the lazy Susan is a type of shelving unit within the cabinet that is able to turn around its axis(軸心) . One may turn the lazy Susan in order to find certain goods in storage. From the outside, a lazy Susan appears to be two cabinets that are located at a right angle (直角) to each another. It is believed that Thomas Jefferson invented the lazy Susan in the 18th century, though it was called “dumbwaiter” at that time. It is said that Jefferson invented the lazy Susan because his daughter complained she was always served last at table and, as a result, never found herself full when leaving the table. Others believe that Thomas Edison was the inventor, as he is believed to have invented the turntable for his phonograph (留聲機(jī)). The turntable may have developed into the lazy Susan later.
Regardless of who invented it, it wasn’t until 1917 that the term “l(fā)azy Susan” was used in an advertisement for the invention. In Britain, however, the term “dumbwaiter” is still used rather than “l(fā)azy Susan”. The reason for the naming of it is still a mystery. Who cares if money can’t buy you love? But it can still be your best friend forever.That’s one of the surprising findings in a new research paper, “The Power of Money”,published in me journal Psychological Science.
Like any best friend forever,money demonstrated to researchers its ability to soothe us,reduce our sense of social exclusion and even reduce life’s painful moments.
“I was surprised” says Katherine Vohs,one of the researchers and professor at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.“The findings were surprising because no one had connected the meaning of money to pain.The money wasn’t buying the subjects more friends;it was only psychologically helpful.”
In the research ,students were told they would be participating in a test of finger dexterity(敏捷度).One group was given some paper money to count,while the other group was given blank pieces of paper.Once the counting was complete, all the test subjects were asked to dip their fingers into bowls of water heated to 122 degrees—roughly the temperature of a very hot bath.
Result? Those who had been counting money reported less pain than those who had not.Subjects also were asked about their feelings.Those who handled actual money reported feeling stronger even 10 minutes after they put down the cash.
Combined with previous experiments,the findings confirmed what researchers have long doubted,that money acts as a general panacea(萬能藥)in the brain,giving us social self-confidence and reducing physical pain without having to spend a dime on aspirin.
But can we get the same effect by using credit cards? “No,credit cards do not have the same effect,” Vohs says.“They are scary for most people,and they in fact represent debt m many ways.”The findings could have an interesting effect in the business world, where recent trends have been to issue non-monetary rewards and bonuses instead of what was thought of as “cold, hard cash”.

Moreover,cloning would enable women, who can’t get pregnant, to have children of their own.
Cloning humans would also mean that organs could be cloned, so it would be a source of perfect transfer organs. This, surely would be greatly beneficial to millions of unfortunate people around the world that are expected to lose their lives due to failure of single(or more) organ(s).It is also arguable that a ban on cloning may be unlawful and would rob people of the right to reproduce and limit the freedom of scientists.
Arguments against cloning are also on a perfectly practical side. Primarily, I believe that cloning would step in the normal “cycle”of life. There would be a large number of same genes., which reduce the chances of improvement,and, in turn, development-the fundamental reason how living things naturally adapt to the ever-changing environment. Life processes failing to do so might result in untimely disappearance. Furthermore, cloning would make the uniqueness that each one of us possesses disappea. Thus, leading to creation of genetically engineered groups of people for specific purposes and, chances are, that those individuals would be regarded as “objects” rather than people in the society.
Scientists haven’t 100 percent. guaranteed that the first cloned will be normal. Thus this could result in introduction of additional limitations in the human “gene-pool”.
Regarding such arguable topics in “black or white” approach seems very innocent to me personally. We should rather try to look at all “shades: of it. I believe that cloning is only legal if its purpose is for cloning organs, not humans. Then we could regard this as for “saving life” instead of “creating life”. I believe cloning humans is morally and socially unacceptable.

Why should I teach my children history?
