Some experts feel that cars are certain to fall into disuse. They see a day in the not too distant future when all cars will be deserted and made useless. 1 They hold that the car will remain a leading means of city travel in the foreseeable future.
The car will undoubtedly change greatly over the next 30 years. It should become smaller, safer and more practical and should not be powered by the gas engine. 2 Unless changes take place in the power system, the car in the future will still be the main problem in city traffic jams. One suggested solution to this essential problem is the automated (自動(dòng)的) system which seems to hold water.
3 ,a small arm will drop from the car and connect with a rail which is similar to a hose (橡皮軟管,水龍帶) powering subway trains electrically. Once joined to the rail, the car will become electrically powered from the system and control of the car will pass to a central computer. 4 The driver will use the telephone to dial instructions about his position and the place he heads for into the system. The computer will find the best way and reserve space for the car all the way to the correct exit from the highway. 5 It is believed that an automated highway will be able to deal with 10 ,000 cars per hour, compared with the 1,500 to 2,000 cars that can be carried by a presentday highway.
A. There will be plenty of policemen on the highway to control the traffic.
B. The car of the future should be far more pollutionfree than present types.
C. The driver will be free to relax and wait for the call that will warn him of his coming exit.
D. The computer will then monitor all of the car's movements.
E. When the car enters the highway system
F. All of the experts don't know what will happen in the future.
G. Other experts however think the car is here to stay.

Do you find 1 (get) up in the morning so difficult that it's painful? This might be called laziness, but Dr. Kleitman has a new 2 (explain) . He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle.
During the hours when you devote to your work you may say that you're "hot". That's true. The time of day when you feel most 3 ( energy) is when your cycle of body temperature is 4 its peak. For some people the peak comes during the forenoon. For others it 5 in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered why this is so,but it leads to such familiar monologues (自言自語) as: "Get up,John! You'll be late for work again!" The possible explanation to the trouble is that John is at his temperature and energy peak in the evening. Much family quarrelling ends when husbands and wives realize what these energy cycles mean, and which cycle each member of the family has.
You can't change your energy cycle, but you can learn to make your life fit it better. Habit can help. Maybe your're sleepy in the evening but feel you must stay 6 late anyway. Counteract (乂于抗) your cycle to some extent 7 habitually staying up later than you want to. If your energy is low in the morning but you have an important job to do early in the day, rise before your usual hour. This won't change your cycle, but you'll get up steam (鼓足干勁) and work better at your low point.

Sit on the edge of the bed a minute before 8 (put) your feet on the floor. 9 (avoid) the troublesome search for clean clothes by laying them out the night before.
