For years scientists have been worried about the effects of air pollution on the earth's natural conditions. Some believe the 16 inside many houses may be more dangerous than the air outside. It may be one hundred times 17 Indoor air pollution can 18 a person to feel tired,to suffer eye-pain,headache and other 19 Some pollutants can cause breathing disorders, diseases of blood and 20 cancer. Most scientists agree that every modem house has some kind of 21 pollution.

People pay more 22 to the problem now. It is true that when builders began making 23 and offices they did not want to waste energy. To do this they built buildings that limited the flow of air between inside and outside. They also began 24 man-made building materials. These 25 are now known to let out harmful gases. 26 the problem became more serious, scientists began searching for a 27 to deal with it. They discovered a natural pollution control system 28 building—green plants. Scientists don't really know how 29 control air pollution. They believe that a plant's leaves absorb or 30 the pollution. In 31 the plant lets out oxygen through its leaves and tiny organisations on its roots. Scientists 32 that all buildings should have one large plant or several small plants inside for every nine square metres of space. 33 of different plants show that each absorbs different chemicals. So the most effective way to 34 the air is to use different kinds of plants. Having green plants inside your house can make it a prettier and 35 place.

When I was in the third grade,I was picked to be the princess (公主) in the school play. For weeks my mother had helped me practise my lines. But once on stage, every word disappeared from my head. Then my teacher told me she had written a narrator's (解說者的) part for the play, and asked me to change roles. Though I didn't tell my mother what had happened that day,she sensed my unhappiness and asked if I wanted to take a walk in the yard.

It was a lovely spring day. We could see dandelions (蒲公英) popping through the grass in bunches,as if a painter had touched our landscape with bits of gold. I watched my mother carelessly bend down by one of the bunches. “I think I am going to dig up all these weeds,” she said. “From now on,we’ll have only roses in this garden. ”

“ But I like dandelions ,” I protested. “ All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions!” My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes. Every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it?”she asked thoughtfully. I nodded. “And that is true to people, too,” she ad&ed. When I realised that she had guessed my pain,I started to cry and told her the truth. But you will be a beautiful narra-tor,” she said, reminding me of how much I loved to read stories aloud to her.

Over the next few weeks, with her continuous encouragement,I learned to take pride in the role. The big day finally came. A few minutes before the play,my teacher came over to me. u Your mother asked me to give this to you,” she said, handing me a dandelion. After the play,I took home the flower, laughing that I was perhaps the only person who would keep such a weed.
