　　Recently a survey has been made on teenagers’ use of the Internet．The results are as follows．

　　Out of the 238 students who returned questionnaires, 179(75％)use the Internet at least once a week on average．The weekly Internet users are almost equally distributed between boys(52％)and girls(48％), as compared with other studies which found significantly more boys than girls online．The average amount of time spent on the Internet is 8 hours per week．However, the hours online per week vary greatly, from a little half an hour to a grand total of 62 hours per week．Most of the teenagers reflect that the favorite online services are games online, and few mention the use of the library on the Internet．According to teenagers who use the Internet very often：58％ of them frequently play games online, 34％ of them chat by QQ or chat in chat rooms, and 5％ of the them read the news and less than 3％ of them use the Internet as a tool for their study．

　　From the survey above we know that many young people are crazy about the Internet．But most of them play games online and some even do that all day and night long．A smaller number of them mainly chat and make friends online．Very few do some learning through the Internet．

　　With the development of society, the Internet is playing a more and more important part in our daily life, and more and more people especially teenagers show great interest in the Internet．If we teenagers are crazy about playing games or having chats online, it will definitely have a bad effect on our study and health．Worse still, it may make us get tired of everything except surfing the Internet．We should spend more time on reading good books, novels or news reports which are available on the Internet．

　　In a word, the Internet makes our life convenient and colorful, but we still should learn the way to make full use of it properly．

Teenagers’ secrets should be kept to themselves and no one else ,their parents included, has the right to stick their nose into their private life. What’s more, exposed to a world of adults, it is only too natural for them to begin imitating (模仿) adults’ behaviors in secret. Boys begin to smoke and girls begin to spend time doing their hair. They are doing al this in secret because they are still unsure whether it is right to do so and afraid that ,if found out by their parent, they will get misunderstood and even punished. And in fact, in many cases, the parents can not deal with the matter well and hurt their children’s feelings badly, making children no longer willing to communicate with their parents. When this happens, it hurts terribly the whole family feeling. So it seems right that teenagers should keep their secrets to themselves and their parents should allow their children that right.

like long magazine articles and business reports.
     Here’s how to preview.
     ● Read the first two paragraphs and the last two paragraphs carefully.
     ● Then read only the first sentence of the other paragraphs.
     Previewing doesn’t give you all the details. It keeps you from spending time on things you don’t really
want-or need-to read.
     Skim-if it’s short and simple. Skimming is a good way to get a general idea of light reading.
-like popular magazines or the sports and entertainment of your daily paper.
     Here’s how to skim.
    ● Get your eyes to move fast. Sweep them across each line.
    ● Pick up only a few key words in each line.
     Everybody skims differently. You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same
piece, but we’ll get a similar idea of what it’s all about.
