It was something she had dreamed of since she was five. Finally, after years of training and intensive (密集的) workouts, Deborah Duffey was going to compete in her first high school basketball game. The goals of becoming an outstanding player and playing college ball were never far from Deborah’s mind.

The game was against Mills High School. With 1:42 minutes left in the game, Deborah’s team led by one point. A player of Mills had possession of the ball, and Deborah ran to guard against her. As Deborah shuffled sideways to block the player, her knee went out and she collapsed on the court in burning pain. Just like that, Deborah’s season was over.

After suffering(拖著腳) the bad injury, Deborah found that, for the first time in her life, she was in a situation beyond her control. Game after game, she could do nothing but sit on the sidelines watching others play the game that she loved so much.

Injuries limited Deborah’s time on the court as she hurt her knees three more times in the next five years. She had to spend countless hours in a physical therapy(治療;療法) clinic to receive treatment. Her frequent visits there gave her a passion and respect for the profession. And Deborah began to see a new light in her life.

Currently a senior in college, Deborah focuses on pursuing a degree in physical therapy. After she graduates, Deborah plans to use her knowledge to educate people how to best take care of their bodies and cope with the feelings of hopelessness that she remembers so well.

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D)中。

When the US started the war in Iraq a year ago, Spain was a firm supporter. But on April 18, the Spanish government started to remove its troops, becoming the first country in the US-led coalition(聯(lián)軍)to bring its soldiers home. The person behind this surprise move is the new Spanish prime minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

A few monthes ago, he was hardly known outside his small hometown in morthern Sain.Even a week before last month's general election, Zaatero was still considered an outsider for the top job.But just three days before the vote, a series of bomb attacks on three train stations in Madrid killed 191 people and injured som 1, 900.It was Spain's worst ever terrorist attack and it changed everything-even making Zapatero prime minister.

From the beginning, the 43-year-old former lawyer, knew the weakness of Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar and his hand-picked successor, Mariano Rajoy.About 90 percent of the Spanish people were against the war in Iraq and were unhappy that Aznar had taken them into it.So Zapatero promised:“If this party wins the election and the UN still can't take charge in Iraq, the new government will pull its 1.400 troops out of Iraq.”

Despite focusing on this and other Aznar mistakes, Zapatero's chances of victory were still thin until the Madrid bombings. At first, the government blamed ETA, a separatist terror group from the Basque region of northern Spain. But later evidence suggested the attack was carried out by Al-Qaida(基地)members angry at Spain's presence in Iraq.

The people were upset, and they showed this by voting for Zapatero. Many accused the government of hiding information about the bombings and only blaming ETA so it wouldn't lose to an anti-war vote.In a move that was as shocking to the world as his election victory, Zapatero chose to carry out his promise the day after he took office. And its effect could be long-lasting.As the situation in Iraq worsens, several countries are considering their positions. The US is worried that other coalition members might follow Spain's lead and also bring their soldiers home.

A.

They feared the terrorists would escape.

B.

C.

The public got to know the truth about the bombings and became worried.

D.

Zapatero received some support from the US.

(3)

What do you think would probably happen after Spain's move out of Iraq.

[ ]

A.

There would be more terrorist attacks in Spain.

B.

Some more countries would bring their troops home.

C.

The US would also follow Spain's lead and pull their armies out of Iraq.

As Apple tries to maintain its growth and success in China, the world's largest smart-phone market is becoming even more critical. Apple's shares(股份) fell sharply as the company's earnings for the holiday quarter through December disappointed investors.
The sales of the iPhone, which include both the iPhone 5 and older models, came in at the low end of analysts' expectations, while the company's income plan for the second quarter was below analysts' forecasts, though Apple is known to give conservative (保守的) forecasts.
Som'6 analysts have said that for Apple to regain its growth, the company.needs a more aggressive strategy for markets, or more specifically for China, where the market for smart phones has been expanding more rapidly than anywhere else. Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is working on a lower-end iPhone that could launch as early as this year. But one possible challenge for Apple in China is that low-pricod Android-based phones are getting better in terms of quality. A report from CLSA in late November showed that many smart-phones sold at about 1,000 yuan ( $160) came with higher-reso-lution screens, better cameras and more powerful processors than phones at that price did a year earlier.
