Once a month the nun marched us to the church, where we would stand in line to say our confession (懺'海) .Bless me,Father, for I have sinned (豸巳罪) ,my last confession was a month ago. These are my sins: "I stole a magazine and I called my younger brother a fucking head."
I thought it a great bargain that a few "Hail Marys" forgave me of my sins. Sometimes the kid ahead of me in line stayed a long time inside the confessional, and I wondered what horrible crimes he had committed. Now we can know what sins others commit, there are Web sites suddenly appear all over the Internet that allow penitents (悔罪者) to publicly confess their sins.
A woman kept her secret for nearly two decades. Finally ready to confess, she turned not to a minister, but to her computer: " I am sorry,God,for not keeping that baby”,her confession reads. "I had kept that secret for over 18 years. I feel so ashamed. Please forgive me!"
The confession appears at ivescrewedup. com,a website launched by the Flamingo Road Church in Cooper City. It's one of a growing number of such sites across the country that offer a place to spill out ugly secrets or just make sins public.
Online confessions are a wonderful thing for a poor soul burdened with guilt,it allows him to clear his conscience without the mediation (調(diào)停,斡旋) of a priest. When a sinner confesses his evil ways to his favorite god,he doesn't receive an email notifying him that his prayer has reached its destination.
But when you post your sins online, they are visible to the whole world, and at the very least you know that others have read your confession.
If you feel the need to confess your shortcomings online, feel free to visit dailyconfession.com or mysecret.tv.

Onions make you cry,add flavor to food and are praised for their medical benefits. Now the vegetable has another use―powering up green energy.
A new system was first used on Friday that converted onion juice into electricity at Gills Onions, the largest fresh onion processor in the United States.
The Oxnard,Californiabased company expects its new onionfueled power to reduce its electric bill by $700,000 a year and cut its annual greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30 ,000 tons.
The happy ending to this green energy tale, however, started with another question:how to get rid of onion waste.
"When we peel an onion,35 to 40 percent of the onion comes off before we have a usable onion. That's the top, tail and skin around the onion before you get to the meat," said Steven Gill, coowner of the 25-year-old company.
They used to put the waste into the fields for composting, but that became a problem. Ten years ago,Gill started looking at technology for a solution.
"We ended up cutting up the skins as they come out of the plant and extracting all the juice, which is very high in sugars, and bacteria love that stuff," Gill said.
In the new system, bacteria produce methane gas from the juice. The gas then goes to two 300-kilowatt fuel cells, creating enough power for 460 homes. The company expects to get 35-40 percent of its electricity from the onsite generator.
The company invested $9. 5 million in the project and will receive $ 2. 7 million from Southern California Gas Co.,as part of a state program to encourage selfcontained generation by businesses. In addition to cutting its electric bill, the company will save $400,000 in trans?port expense and expects payback in six years.

( ) 8. We can learn from the passage that .
A. the researchers are trying to get rid of bacteria in onion
B. Steven Gill is 25 years old
C. it is the bacteria that helps to produce energy from the juice

Next week,I will travel to Europe to attend the G8 summit. At this meeting, the leaders of industrialized nations will discuss ways to advance trade, fight disease, promote development that works, increase access to education, and address the longterm challenge of global climate change.
When we help lift societies out of poverty,we create new markets for American goods and new jobs for American workers. When we help reduce disorder and suffering,we make America safer, because prosperous nations are less likely to breed (繁殖) violence and export terror.
On Tuesday,America took new action to address the ongoing genocide (種族大屠殺) in Darfur. On my orders, the Department of Treasury tightened our existing economic sanctions (制裁) against Sudan and imposed additional ones. The people of Darfur have suffered long enough. We will not ignore a crisis that challenges the conscience of the world.
On Wednesday, the United States demonstrated leadership on another crisis affecting Africa . HIV/AIDS. In2003,my Administration launched a$15 billion Emergency Plan for AIDS relief, and I've asked Congress to double our plan for HIV/AIDS prevention to$30 billion over the next five years.
On Thursday,I announced three new initiatives (措施) that will help the developing world. The first initiative is a new project called the Africa Financial Sector Initiative. This initiative will help bring African nations the technical assistance they need and it will encourage the international financial community to promote up to$1 billion of new private investment in Africa.
The second initiative is to help more of the world's poorest children get an education. My Administration has provided about$300 million to improve educational opportunities throughout that continent. Now,with the support of Congress,we will devote$525 million over the next five years to help provide a quality basic education for up to four million children in poor nations.
The third initiative is a proposal to help developing nations meet their growing energy needs while protecting the environment and addressing the challenge of global climate change.
In all these endeavors, the American people can be proud of our global leadership and generosity. Our Nation is delivering aid and comfort to those in need. We're helping expand opportunity across the world. We're laying the foundation for a more peaceful and hopeful future for all our citizens.

Technical and technological skills will take on greater importance. There will be a growing need for people who can understand and fix systems―from computer systems to product distribution (分配) systems to plumbing (流通) systems.
Visionary skills (想象能力) will be in demand. The ability to gather and absorb a wide range of input, then use that knowledge, understanding, and view to guide organization into future, will be vital.
Numbers and measurement will be important,of course, but smoothing the flow from month to month, from quarter to quarter will be essential for highly profitable longterm performance. Practically every company will have to move away from today's puzzlement with looking ahead only as far as the next financial reporting period.
Ability to organize will definitely be important in the corporation of the future. Everywhere there will be a need to organize something:resources, workflow, marketing mix, financial opportunities, and much more, all will demand high levels of organization and reorganization.
Persuasive skills will be used in many ways by the corporation of the future, the most effective individuals will be those who know how to present information and ideas so that others can understand and support a particular position. Good salesmanship will be essential in many more interactions than we consider today, especially inside the organization.
Communication skills―careful listening, clear writing, close reading, plain speaking, and accurate description―will be invaluable. In tomorrow's fastpaced business environment there will be precious little time to correct any misunderstandings. Communications breakdown may well become a fatal corporate (企業(yè)) disease.
Ability to learn will be above everything else in importance―enabling people to grow in effectiveness and help their companies achieve desired objectives. Some of this skill is innate (天生的) ,but many people improve their ability to learn―and to relate different aspects of learning―through college and university courses. We believe the liberal arts education experience will prove to be the most valuable type of education for tomorrow's leaders.
The top employees of the coming century will be flexible (靈活的) ,creative and motivated toward making a positive difference in the world. They will seek balance, growth and fulfillment in both their work and home environments. The corporation of the future must respond to these needs and desires;otherwise they will find themselves limited by a lack of qualified people to accomplish the organization's work.

Temperatures in some parts of the country have eased a bit over the weekend. But there is no risk that groups of people are suddenly going to turn their backs on airconditioning. The airconditioner has established itself well in the hearts of Americans. The first widespread use of airconditioners came during the 1920 when movie theaters used what they called manmade weather to attract customers to the silver screen. After World War II,the cost for airconditioners started to come down and manufacturers advertised them as for the millions not just for millionaires. Deborah Hawkins, knows how to keep cool. She is chairman of the Airconditioner and Refrigeration Institute. We called her in her office in Fort Worth,Texas. Welcome to the program.

And also I guess that the theater just stayed open during the summer.
Well, yearlong, yearlong. Well before they were primarily just open from November to May.
Well, what are some of the other early places to be cooled down by airconditioning? Well, right after the movie theaters, the government buildings in Washington D. C. were airconditioned, started with the US House of Representatives building, the Senate building, even the White House.
When did airconditioning become a stable of the Middle Class?
Well, actually it started in the 50s when sales exceeded over one million units. And then at each decade,it increased enormously. To where now today, probably 82% of all homes either have room airconditioning units or central airconditioning units in America.

One of the biggest new bands in the UK at the moment is Arctic Monkeys. Their first two singles went straight to number one in the charts and their first record album Whatever People Say I Am,That's What Vm Not has become a recordbreaking album. It's the fastestselling debut album in UK chart history.
Arctic Monkeys are not only wellknown because of their massive success. They achieved their success thanks to the Internet. Usually a new band signs to a record company and it is through marketing and promotion that people then buy singles. The single sales then get the band into the charts and they become popular that way.
However,Arctic Monkeys became wellknown in a slightly different way. Back in 2003 when the band first started, they handed out CDs at their concert. The general public gained access to this music because it was on the Internet and, because people liked the music, the band's popularity increased.
The band's popularity was starting to get noticed by major radio stations in the UK. When the band appeared at two major UK music festivals in the summer of 2005,they were quite lowdown among the programmes. Arctic Monkeys released their first single in October 2005. Previous to that, their music had only been available to download on the Internet. When they did finally release a single and an album, they both shot to the top of the charts. Music fans welcome the use of the Internet this way and Arctic Monkeys became popular simply because people liked their music when they heard it. There was no too much promotion and no marketing campaign. Many people are saying this is a taste of things to come.
