Fitness isn't just physical:Change your thoughts, and you change your world.Of course we can all agree that gaining and losing weight, exercise, diet, strength, and flexibility are all a part of fitness. But what about body image, self-esteem, aging, relationships, success and happiness? They are all related, all connected, and fitness in all areas is important if you want true and total fitness.

But you may say, “I just want to lose 20 pounds. If I do, I will feel better about myself and I will be happy.”Maybe in the short term, but honestly, if we don't deal with our mental and emotional fitness while working on the physical fitness, there is very little chance of keeping the weight off, feeling good about yourself, and improving every other area of your life.

Let's not waste time in changing our bodies when they will only change back if we don't change our minds, too.Let's work “out” and work “in” at the same time.Change your mind-and you must, because if you have been trying to lose weight, but cannot, there is something inside of you that is disallowing it.You can change this pattern, improve your self-esteem, increase your joy, and change your body for good by focusing on changing your mind, too. This is training of life.

Work-ins will recondition your mind, improve your attitude, change your perception(觀念)and stimulate motivation(動(dòng)機(jī))at the same time you are conditioning your body for weight loss, shaping, strength and endurance.

If you repeat a positive statement over and over to yourself-like a mantra, your mind will change, the same way your body does, even if you don't believe it.Like lifting a weight over and over, your muscle changes-even if you don't believe it.

Try it-what have you got to lose? Say, “I am ready for my body to be healthier, leaner, and stronger.I love it already.”Say it over and over while you are walking or running or doing any exercise.Pick a statement that works for you-something positive and in the present tense.

LONDON--A morning's train ride away, across the Channel. English kids talk about Liverpool's soccer team in a Paris pub.

Some Parisians have even started to go to work in London.

In the 19 century, Charles Dickens compared the two great rival(競(jìng)爭(zhēng)的)cities, London and Paris, in “A Tale of Two Cities.”These days, it might be A Tale of One City.

Parisians are these days likely to smile in sympathy at a visitor's broken French and respond in polite English.

As Jobs grew lack at home over recent years, perhaps 250,000 Frenchmen moved across the Channel. With an undersea tunnel, they could travel between cities in three hours. The European Union frees them from immigration and customs.

Paris, rich in beauty, is more attractive. But London feels more full of life, and more fun until the pubs shut down.

“For me, the difference is that London is real, alive,”said Trevor Wheeler, a banker.

Chantal Jaouen, a professional designer, agrees.“I am French, but I'll stay in London,”she said.

There is, of course, the other view. Julie Lenoux is a student who moved to London two years ago.“I think people laugh more in Paris,”she said.

In fact, London and Paris, with their obvious new similarities, are beyond the old descriptions. As the European Union gradually loosened controls, Londoners flocked into Paris to shop, eat and buy property.

“Both cities have changed beyond recognition. ”said Larry Collins, a writer and sometimes a Londoner.

Like most people who know both well, he finds the two now fit together comfortably.

“I first fell in love with Paris in the 1950s, and is still a wonderful place.”Collins said.

“But if I had to choose, it would be London. Things are so much more ordered, and life is better.”

  But certainly not cheaper.

In fancy parts of London, rents can be twice than those on Avenue Foch in Paris.

Deciding between London and Paris requires a lifestyle choice.

Like Daphne Benoit, a French journalism student with perfect English, many young people are happy to be close enough to they don't have to choose.

“I love Paris, my little neighborhood, the way I can walk around a centre, but life is so structured,”she said.“In London, you can be who you want. No one cares.”

[ ]

A. came in large numbers

B. flew a long way

C. rushed hurriedly

D. drove long distances

(4)Living in Paris, you may find ______ .

Holidaymakers who are bored with baking beaches and overheated hotel rooms head for a big igloo. Swedish businessman Nile Bergqvist is delighted with his new hotel, the world's first igloo hotel. Built in a small town in Lapland, it has been attracting lots of visitors, but soon the fun will be over.

In two weeks' time Bersqvist's ice creation (作品) will be nothing more than a pool of water. “We don't see it as a big problem,” he says. “We just look forward to replacing it.”

Bergqvist built his first igloo in 1991 for exhibition. It was so successful that he designed the present one, which measures roughly 200 square meters. Six workmen spent more than eight weeks piling 1000 tons of snow onto a wooden base; when the snow froze, the base was removed. “The only wooden thing we have left in the igloo is the front door,” he says.

After their stay, all visitors receive a survival certificate recording their success. With no windows, nowhere to hang clothes and temperatures below 0℃, it may seem more like a survival test than a relaxing (輕松的) hotel break. “It's great fun,” Bergqvist explains, “as well as a good start in survival training.”

The popularity of the igloo is beyond doubt: it is now attracting tourists from all over the world. At least 800 people have stayed at the igloo this season even though there are only 10 rooms. “You can get a lot of people in.” Explains Bergqvist. “The beds are three meters wide by two meters long, and can fit at least four at one time.”
