Nowadays , people in China are increasingly interested in celebrating foreign festival , especially those western festivals .
A survey conducted recently by sina.Com showed that among the 18,222 people surveyed 63.9% said celebrating Christmas is just another way of recreation ,nothing serious while  17.85% surveyed considered the festival as a fashion act , showing they were not "out".These two parts clearly indicate the general opinion of the young .10.45 percent people involved said the celebration of a religious western festival with so much enthusiasm is absolutely ridiculous pursuit of foreign goodness .Only 7.8% of people define Christmas as a kind of festival colonization(殖民)。
The arising of celebrating foreign festivals clearly has something to do with the advancement of China's economy .In my opinion of view ,Christmas and other festivals celebrated in China have difference from the  origin  .They have lost their religious background and turned into a big occasion to have fun and enjoy life .Shop owners' pockets are filled, the public's hunger for happiness is filled , and that is enough . Foreign festivals in china are more like carnivals giving people pleasure and enjoyment .
The crisis (危機(jī))of traditional Chinese festivals that are losing their attraction may be linked to the culture tradition and background of the festivals. Most Chinese festival culture is related more or less to real life.
But the western culture shows much of romance .Some festivals have their religious background while others have much to do with culture and people .At this point , food seems to be too plain .Flowers and chocolates are more welcomed.
Foreign festivals in China today are celebrated for fun . They give people opportunities to relax and to show appreciation and gratefulness . The acceptance of foreign festivals generally depends on the openness of the public , the familiarity with the western culture , and most importantly , on people's economic status.
60 From the survey we know that among the people surveyed _________
A .Most think celebrating foreign festivals is ridiculous
B .Many fear that traditional Chinese festivals will disappear soon
C.Some think that celebrating foreign festivals is a sign of foreign                                                               goodness chasing
D half think celebrating foreign festivals makes people not go out of faction
61. The writer think that foreign festivals celebrated in China ________
A have lost their religious background
B are the same as those celebrated in the west
C can give more fun than traditional Chinese festivals
D may reduce the hunger of  public people
62. What is the main difference between foreign festivals and traditional Chinese ones ?

Computer people talk a lot about the need for other people to become “computer-literate”. But not all experts agree that this is a good idea.
One pioneer, in particular, who disagrees is David Tebbutt, the founder of Computertown UK. Although many people see this as a successful attempt to bring people closer to the computer, David does not see it that way. He says that Computertown UK was formed for just the opposite reason, to bring computers to people and make them “people-literate”.
David Tebbutt thinks Computertowns are most successful when tied to a computer club but he insists there is an important difference between the two. The clubs are for people who have some computer knowledge already. This frightens away non-experts, who are happier going to Computertowns where there are computers for them to experiment on, with experts to encourage them and answer any questions they have. They are not told what to do. They find out. The computer experts have to learn not to tell people about computers, but have to be able to answer all questions people ask. People don't have to learn computer terms(術(shù)語(yǔ)), but the experts have to explain in plain language. The computers are becoming “people-literate”.
小題1:Which of the following is David Tebbutt's idea on the relationship between people and
computers?
A.Computer learning should be made easier.

小題3:The underlined word “it” in the second paragraph refers to the idea that Computertowns ___.

Have you ever noticed advertisements which say “Learn a foreign language in 6 weeks or your money back”?
Of course, it never happens quite like that. The only language which is easy to learn is the native tongue. Before the Second World War people usually learnt a foreign language in order to read the literature of the nation. Now speaking a foreign language is what most people want. Every year millions of people start learning one. How can they do it?
Some people try at home, with books or tapes; some use radio or television programs. If they use the language only 2 or 3 times a week, learning it will take a long time. A few people have to learn a language fast by studying for 6 or more hours a day. It is easier to learn a language in the country where it is spoken in everyday life. However, most people cannot afford this, and for many it is not nesessary. They need the language in order to do their work better. For example, scientists chiefly need to be able to read books and reports in the foreign language. Whether the language is learnt quickly or slowly, it is hard work. Machines and books will help. But they cannot do the students’ work for them.

When I walked into the house after school, the first thing I noticed was a box with items I recognized from my dad’s office.
“What are you doing home already?” I asked casually.
“Andrew, I was laid off today.” he answered quietly.
I was sure he was joking. “No, you weren’t. Why are you really home?”
Then I noticed his seriousness and realized he was telling the truth. My father has always been a hard worker and prided himself on his career. Providing for our family has been his joy, and I guess I had taken his work for granted.
My father’s unemployment created many changes in our lives. For starters, he was home all the time, which meant my bed had to be made, my room cleaned up, and my homework done right after school. I would come home every day to find him at the computer searching for jobs. I began to notice how down he seemed, and how losing his job had affected his self-esteem, though he tried to be optimistic. For the first time, I saw my dad as vulnerable. He asked my brother and me to spend less. I gave up my allowance, which even though it wasn’t much, felt like the right thing to do. I also found a part-time job.
After several difficult months of searching, my dad decided to go in a totally different direction. He explained that he never wanted to be laid off again, so he was going to start his own business. Day by day, I watched him build it, and I admired how much time and energy he expended.
One evening I asked if he needed help.
“Only if it doesn't interfere with school,” he said.
I showed up at his office the next afternoon, and most afternoons after that for two months. I always knew he was a hard worker, but watching him in action really impacted me. Although this was one of the worst experiences for our family, it taught me a lot about dealing with adversity. Now I know that through creative problem-solving, I can always find Plan B, ask for help, and take risks. What I have learned from my dad’s understanding of business and his work ethic are two of the most important lessons I will ever learn, and will be my foundations for success.

A. to refuse the author’s advice on the new business
B. to show his discontent with the author’s schoolwork

D. to be looking forward to the author’s good behavior at school

Americans have contributed to many art forms, but jazz, a type of music, is the only art form that was created in the United States. Jazz was created by black Americans. Many blacks were brought from Africa to America as slaves. The black slaves sang and played the music of their homeland.
Jazz is a mixture of many different kinds of music. It is a combination (合并) of the music of west Africa, the work songs the slaves sang, and religious music. Improvisation(即興創(chuàng)作)is an important jazz. This means that the musicians make the music up as they go along, or create the music on the spot. This is why a jazz song might sound a little different each time it is played.

Accidents happen almost daily. Some accidents are minor and some are serious but others may be fatal. We read about such accidents nearly every day in the newspapers. It is wrong for people to think that accidents occur only on the roads or highways, or even at worksites. Home accidents are just as common. Because very few home accidents are reported, people tend to think that there are few accidents which happen in homes.
There have been many cases where people fall to their deaths from high-rise flats. Children often fall from staircases while coming down the stairs. Old people may slip on wet or slippery floors if they are not careful.
Nowadays there are a lot of modern electrical appliances such as rice-cookers, electric irons, and kettles which make life easy for the modern housewives. These appliances can kill if they are not used in the proper way.
Gas stoves used for cooking are also dangerous if they are not properly handled. They may cause burns or, in more serious cases, they may even cause fires.
But all such accidents can be prevented if we are careful and obey simple rules of safety. For example, it is unwise for people to try repairing their own electrical appliances if they do not know how. It is safer for them to get their faulty appliances repaired by a qualified electrician.
