根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。
If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows this, and nobody would think of questioning this fact. 1. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by exercising it regularly, either consciously or unconsciously. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough opportunity to become strong. 2. One of them exercises his arms and legs by playing tennis, while the other sits in a chair or a motor car all day.
If a friend complains that his arms are weak, we know that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame, or that he is just unlucky, and few of us realize that it is just as much his own fault as if it was his arms or legs that were weak. 3. But all of us can, if we have ordinary bodies and brains, improve our strength and our memory by the same means— practice.
Have you ever noticed that people who cannot read or write usually have better memories than those who can? 4. It’s because those who cannot read or write have to remember things. They cannot write them down in a little notebook and they have to remember dates, time and prices, names, songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time 5. .
A. What do you think of it?
B. Yet many people do not seem to know that the memory works in the same way.
C. Not all of us can become extremely strong or extremely clever.
D. So if you want a good memory, practice remembering.
E. Someone else says that he is poor in health.
F. Why is this?
G. The position is exactly the same as that of two people.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2015-2016學(xué)年浙江杭州市五校聯(lián)盟高三12月月考英語(yǔ)試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解
Shyness is the cause of much unhappiness for a great many people. Shy people are anxious and self-conscious; that is, they are concerned with their own appearance and actions too much. Negative thoughts are constantly occurring in their minds: What kind of impression am I making? Do they like me? Do I sound stupid? Am I wearing unattractive clothes?
It is obvious that such uncomfortable feelings must affect people unfavorably. A person's self-concept is reflected in the way he or she behaves and the way a person behaves affects other people's reactions. In general, the way people think about themselves has a deep effect on all areas of their lives.
Shy people, who have low respect, are likely to be passive and easily influenced by others. They need faith that they are doing "the right thing". Shy people are very sensitive to criticism. It makes them feel inferior(自卑).They also find it difficult to be pleased by praises because they believe they are unworthy of praise. A shy person may respond to a praise with a statement like this one: "You're just saying that to make me feel good, I know it's not true.” It is clear that, while self-awareness is a healthy quality, overdoing it is harmful.
Can shyness be completely got rid of, or at least reduced? Fortunately, people can overcome shyness with determination since shyness goes hand in hand with lack of self respect. It is important for people to accept their weakness as well as their strengths. Each one of us has his or her own characteristics. We are interested in our own personal ways. The better we understand ourselves, the easier it becomes to live up to our chances for a rich and successful life.
1.The first paragraph is mainly about______.
A. the cause of shyness
B. the effect of shyness on people
C. the feelings of shy people
D. the questions in the minds of shy people
2.According to the writer, self-awareness is______.
A. harmful to people
B. a weak point of shy people
C. the cause of unhappiness
D. a good characteristic
3.What is the shy people's reaction to praise?
A. They are pleased by it.
B. They feel it is not true.
C. They are very sensitive to it.
D. They feel they are worthy of it.
4.We can learn from the passage that shyness can ______.
A. block our chances for a successful life
B. help us to live up to our full development
C. enable us to understand ourselves better
D. have nothing to do with lack of self respect

Preventing obesity (肥胖) and smoking can save lives, but it doesn’t save money, reported researchers. “It was a small surprise, for it is against the common belief,” said Pieter Van Baal, who led the study. “But it makes sense. If you live longer, then you cost the health system more.”
The researchers found that from age 20 to 56, obese people racked up (累計(jì)) the most expensive health costs. But on average, healthy people lived 84 years. Smokers lived about 77 years, and obese people lived about 80 years. Smokers and obese people tended to have more heart disease than healthy people. Therefore in the long run, the thin and healthy group cost about $417, 000, from age 20 on. Smokers cost about $326, 000 and obese people $371, 000.
“The result throws a bucket of cold water onto the idea, based on guesswork, that obesity is going to cost trillions of dollars,” said Patrick Basham, a professor of health politics. “If we’re going to worry about the future of obesity, we should stop worrying about its financial impact,” he said.
“The benefits of obesity prevention may not be seen immediately in terms of cost saving in tomorrow’s budget, but there are long-term gains,” said Van Baal. “These are often immeasurable when it comes to people living longer and healthier lives.” In the meanwhile, he said that governments should recognize that successful smoking and obesity prevention programs mean that people will have a longer chance of dying of something more expensive later in life.
“Lung cancer is a cheap disease to treat because people don’t survive very long. But if they are old enough to get Alzheimer’s (早老性癡呆癥) one day, they may survive longer and cost more. We are not advising that governments stop trying to prevent obesity,” Van Baal said. “But they should do it for the right reasons.”
1.Among middle-aged people, who may cost the health system most?
A. Those who are heavy smokers.
B. Those who are overweight.
C. Those who are too thin.
D. Those who are suffering from heart attacks.
2.What can we know about the belief that obesity costs much?
A. It turns out to be incorrect.
B. It comes from scientific study.
C. It is based on medical evidence.
D. It has changed over the past years.
3.According to the text, governments prevent obesity for the purpose of _______.
A. reducing the risks of suffering cancer
B. weakening obesity’s financial impact
C. making sure of people’s long and healthy life
D. reducing the money spent on medical programs
4.What would be the best title for this text?
A. Recent Medical Study Shows Truth about Health
B. Preventing Obesity and Smoking May Cost More
C. Obesity and Smoking Lead to Expensive Diseases
D. Governments Change Attitude towards Obesity and Smoking
