A student is given three toys by his teacher and is asked to find out the differences. All the three toys seem to be the same in shape, size and material. After careful observation, the student finds out holes in the toys. The first toy has holes in the ears. The second toy has holes in one ear and the mouth. And the third toy has only one hole in one ear.

Then the student puts a needle in the ear hole of the first toy. The needle comes out from the other ear. When the needle is put in the second toy’s ear it comes out of the mouth. And when the needle is put in the third toy’s ear, it does not come out.

The first toy means those people around you who make you think that they are listening to you and caring for you. But they just pretend to do so. After listening, as the needle comes out from the other ear, the things you said to them are gone. So be careful while you are speaking to this type of person around you, who does not care for you. The second toy means those people who listen to you and make you think that they care for you. But as the needle comes out from its mouth, these people will use your things and the words you tell them against you by telling them to others for their own purpose.

For the third toy, the needle does not come out from it. These kinds of people will keep the trust you have in them. They are the ones you can depend on.

What separates me from everyone else? The difference is not what clothes I wear or the music I listen to, but what I feel inside.

Ever since I was young, I have loved professional wrestling.I woke up every Saturday to watch my favorite "Superstars." As I grew older, I got a lot of flak for watching this "fake" sport. My peers would laugh at me for following what was called a "man's soap opera." So, I put my love for wrestling on the shelf.Like everyone else, I wanted to be associated with the cool clique.I yearned to be invited to the parties of the in-crowd and hang out with the popular kids.I became pretty successful.Although my Friday evenings were busy with parties, I would still wake up early Saturdays to watch wrestling. It wasn't until freshman year that I realized I wasn't being myself.

That year, I tried many new things and activities and made new friends. In my town, football was the sport, so I decided to play football, thinking it might give me a head start in popularity. The team started with 48 athletes. At the end, there were 14 of us left.I stuck it out not because I liked it, but because I am not a quitter. That long season taught me a lesson: I wasn't a football player.More importantly, it taught me to be myself.

After that season, I went back to being a wrestling fan.I watched it religiously, no matter what insults were thrown my way.I came across a quote: "Don't Dream It, Be It." When I read this, my friend Dan had the same idea I had.

"What if we build a wrestling ring?" we asked. We acquired the necessary wood and equipment for its construction. The following weekend, we met at his house. We saw our dream in a pile in his backyard. We worked from dawn to dusk to build our great establishment.By Sunday night, our mission was complete. Our hard work (combined with a little creativity) had paid off.We had a real ring.We decided to hold an "event." We practiced for hours, trying to improve every aspect of our wrestling ability. The date was May 24th.Our show had a start time of 9: 00 p.m.To our surprise, about one hundred family, friends and fans showed up to support us.It was the most important night of my life and a complete success.Since that time, we have held five shows with as many as two hundred and fifty people turning out.We continue to live this dream. We accomplished what we set out to do.We are now well known throughout school. When I walk down the halls, I am respected by my peers. Some are the same peers who ridiculed me for watching wrestling when I was younger. When they approach me, they often say, "Good match, Chris." I humbly say, "Thank you," knowing I did something I believed in.

As my senior year winds down, I'll remember all of my high school memories. But what will stick out most is the memory that I did something I loved, despite what everyone said or thought.I accomplished my goal ...I lived my dream.

At the beginning of the World Series of 1947,I experienced a completely new emotion, when the National Anthem was played. This time,I thought,it is being played for me,as much as for anyone else. This is organized major league baseball, and I am standing here with all the others;and everything that takes place includes me.

About a year later,I went to Atlanta,Georgia,to play in an exhibition game.On the field, for the first time in Atlanta, there were Negroes and whites.Other Negroesbesides me.And I thought: What I have always believed has come to be.

And what is it that I have always believed? First, that imperfections are human. But that wherever human beings were given room to breathe and time to think, those imperfections would disappear,no matter how slowly.I do not believe that we have found or even approached perfection. That is not necessarily in the scheme of human events.Handicaps, stumbling blocks, prejudices — all of these are imperfect.Yet,they have to be dealt with because they are in the scheme of human events.

Whatever obstacles I found made me fight all the harder. But it would have been impossible for me to fight at all, except that I was sustained by the personal and deep-rooted belief that my fight had a chance. It had a chance because it took place in a free society. Not once was I forced to face and fight an immovable object. Not once was the situation so cast-iron rigid that I had no chance at all.Free minds and human hearts were at work all around me;and so there was the probability of improvement.I look at my children now,and know that I must still prepare them to meet obstacles and prejudices.

But I can tell them, too, that they will never face some of these prejudices because other people have gone before them. And to myself I can say that, because progress is unalterable, many of today's dogmas (教條)will have vanished by the time they grow into adults.I can say to my children: There is a chance for you.No guarantee, but a chance. And this chance has come to be,because there is nothing static with free people. There is no Middle Ages logic so strong that it can stop the human tide from flowing forward. I do not believe that every person,in every walk of life, can succeed in spite of any handicap. That would be perfection. But I do believe — and with every fiber in me — that what I was able to attain came to be because we put behind us (no matter how slowly) the dogmas of the past: to discover the truth of today;and perhaps find the greatness of tomorrow.

I believe in the human race.I believe in the warm heart.I believe in man's honesty.I believe in the goodness of a free society. And I believe that the society can remain good only as long as we are willing to fight for it — and to fight against whatever imperfections may exist. My fight was against the barriers that kept Negroes out of baseball. This was the area where I found imperfection, and where I was best able to fight. And I fought because I knew it was not doomed to be a losing fight. It couldn't be a losing fight-not when it took place in a free society. And in the largest sense,I believe that what I did was done for me — that it was my faith in God that sustained me in my fight. And that what was done for me must and will be done for others.

1.Why did the author say he had experienced a completely new emotion?

A. Because he won game.

B. Because he was an American.

D. Because the National Game was played for him.

2.From the passage,we know that the author is ___________.

A. an African

B. a Chinese

C. a white man

D. a black man

3.The author firmly believed that____________.

A. humans are imperfect if they all unite together to overcome the difficulties.

B. humans needn't approach perfect even if they can.

C. humans should face the obstacles and fight for it bravely.

D. humans are becoming kind and honest if they have freedom.

4.We can infer from the passage that_________.

A. the fight between Negroes and Whites never ends

B. the civil war broke out because the Negroes fought for their freedom

C. In the past Negroes were kept out of baseball.
