Napoleon stayed in a small inn (小旅館). The next morning, he went to thank the innkeeper.

“You have served me well,” said Napoleon. “I wish to reward you. Tell me what you want.”

“Sir, we want nothing,” said the innkeeper. “But will you tell us something?”

“What is it?” Napoleon asked.

“We have heard a story,” said the innkeeper, “that once during the war , a small village was taken by the Russians. You happened to be in the village. You hid while they looked for you. Will you tell us how you felt when they were looking for you?” Napoleon looked very angry. He called in two of his soldiers. Then he pointed to the door. The soldiers took the innkeeper and his wife out into the yard.

At the end of the yard was a wall. The innkeeper and his wife were led to the wall. The soldiers tied the hands of the innkeeper and his wife. Napoleon watched, saying nothing. “Please, sir.” begged the innkeeper, “Don’t kill us! we meant nothing!” The soldiers moved back. The innkeeper saw them raising their guns. The moment a college student arrives on campus, he or she is bombarded with credit card offers. Advertisements for student credit cards are everywhere: in bags at the bookstore, in the campus newspaper, in your regular mailbox, in the residence halls.

With so many college students graduating with large amounts of credit card debt (figures vary, but most are at least in the thousands), learning how to manage a student credit card can be an important lesson for any student. While using a card wisely can be an important part of building credit and making it through a difficult time, knowing how to use a card wisely can be the hard part.

Stick to the following rules when, and if, you need to use a credit card:

You can repay the charge(s) within the card’s next billing cycle.

You must meet your basic needs, like food, clothing and shelter, but set rules and be aware that you will need to repay those charges at the end of the month.

You can talk to the financial aid office in your school for an alternative in “emergency” situations.

If you do want a credit card, just be smart about it. (They let you in to that school because of your brain, right?) Don’t automatically get the first one you find. Shop around for a card that has the lowest interest rate possible, and consider places that may not be advertising on campus. Additionally, be aware of any card’s repayment options: When will payments be due? How much will they be? A credit card is not like a loan that comes with a grace period(寬限期)after you graduate and waits until you are done with school. That new sweater and nice dinner out will need to be paid back right away.

Animals are not always animals. Some of them will try to cheat or cow some others in the way the human beings often do. Here is a fairy tale from Aesop for you to enjoy.

An eagle(鷹)made her nest at the top of a high tree while a cat, having found a convenient hole, moved into the middle of the trunk, and at the same time a wild pig, with her young took shelter in a hollow at its foot. The cat then decided to make all serve her in her wise way.

To carry out her design, she climbed to the nest of the eagle, saying, "Destruction is preparing for you and for me too, unfortunately. The wild pig, whom you see daily digging up the earth, wishes to uproot the tree, so she may on its fall seize our families as food for her young."

Having thus frightened the eagle out of her senses, she crept down to the cave of the pig, saying, "Your children are in great danger, for as soon as you go out to find food, the eagle is prepared to jump upon one of your little pigs."

Having filled these fears into the pig, she went and pretended to hide herself in the hollow of the tree. When night came she went out silently and obtained food for herself and her children, but pretending to be afraid, she kept a lookout all through the day. Meanwhile, the eagle, full of fear of the pig, sat still on the branches, and the pig, terrified by the eagle, did not dare to go out from her cave. Thus they both, along with their families, starved from hunger, and afforded good food for the cat and her children.

B. Her children would get lost.

C. She would be taken as the cat’s food.

A. By running here and there.

B. By cheating both the eagle and the pig.

One of the most significant actions of your life is that you support someone when you help him or her through a challenging time. However, the best is that when you support others, you are also supporting yourself. When you to give support to others, it is usually a that you are also stopping giving support to yourself.

I was hooked on a story about Donna, which clearly showed the of support.

Several months ago, Donna had just broken up with her boyfriend and had a difficult time accepting the . She refused to be accompanied and stayed at home , weeping all the time ,which certainly was not helping.

Early one morning, Donna received a phone call with some news: her best friend’s brother had been in an accident. Donna had known this friend, Mary, and her brother her entire life, and the news was devastating. Donna her sadness and got the soon and drove to Mary’s house to be with her.

At the and afterwards, she held Mary close while she cried tears, sat by her side as the waves of grief Mary, and slept next to her to make sure she did not wake up alone. During that time she hardly felt any in her heart.

Several weeks later, when life began to return to normal, Donna that the level of support she had given Mary far overtook any support she had herself during her dark time. She was able to use the support she had given her friend as a for the support she needed.

When you find yourself to support others, see if there’s something within yourself that is not supporting. , when you give complete support to others, it’ll mirror those places within you that require the same level of attention.

Grandpa was a carpenter (木匠). One day he was making some boxes for the clothes his church was sending to an orphanage (孤兒院) in Egypt. On his way home, he reached into his shirt pocket to find his glasses, but they were gone. He drove back to the church, but his search turned out to be fruitless.

Suddenly, he realized what happened. The glasses had slipped out of his pocket and fallen into one of the boxes, which he had nailed shut. His new glasses were heading for Africa!

Grandpa had six children and he had paid twenty dollars for the glasses that morning. “It's not fair,” he told God as he drove home. “I've been very faithful (忠誠的) in giving my time and money to YOUR work.”

Several months later, the director of the orphanage was on holiday in the United States. He wanted to visit all the churches that helped him in Egypt, so he came to speak on Sunday night at my grandfather's small church in Chicago.

“But most of all,” he said, “I must thank you for the glasses you sent last year. You see, I had just broken my glasses. Then your boxes arrived. To my surprise, I found a pair of glasses in it and it fit me very well!”

The people listened, happy for the amazing glasses, but thought that the man must have confused their church with another. There were no glasses on their list of items to be sent overseas. Sitting quietly in the back, with tears in his eyes, Grandpa realized that God had played a big trick on him.
