After several months of strict secrecy, Beijing finally announced its mascots for the 2008 Olympics—Five Fuwas, exactly 1000 days before the event's opening ceremony. These mascots embody the natural characteristics of four China's popular animals—fish, panda, Tibetan antelope and swallow as well as the Olympic flame. All the designers thought that no single figure could embody China's profound and diversified culture, so they decided to produce five instead of one.
