“When your mother scolds you, you can look elsewhere and think about other things. Just ignore her words. But remember: such a tough attitude cannot be used often.”

These words are from a series of cartoons which outline skills for children to fight against their mothers. The images have created heated debate among Chinese netizens.

Regarded as “a book for children aged 6 to 12 who are always scolded by their parents”, the cartoons, drawn by two 10?year?old Beijing girls, list over 20 skills which children can use to deal with their mothers' anger such as crying, pretending to be ashamed, fleeing into the toilet and pleasing her afterwards.

Each skill is described with vivid pictures and humorous notes. The creativity of the young girls has amazed netizens, the Yangtse Evening Post reported on Thursday.

According to one of the girls' mothers, her daughter once received a poor mark in an exam, and the mother blamed her and compared her performance with another classmate. The daughter's feelings led to her creating the cartoons.

The girl's father, who first posted the pictures on his Sohu Microblog on Monday, said he hopes parents pay close attention to the pictures, allow children to feel free to develop their own characteristics and try not to criticize them so often.

The father said the cartoons aren't finished yet; his daughter will continue with them when she has time.

“The cartoons, although an individual case, reflect a modern phenomenon and some of the problems within Chinese family education,” said Yu Qinfang, an expert on family education.

According to a survey of 104 children and their parents, Yu discovered that as many as 51.9 percent of primary school students hate being urged to do things by their mothers.

“Not giving children enough time and hurrying them to do things seems to be a very tiny detail within family life, but it is potentially a huge problem which can easily be ignored by parents. A mother's blame may lead to negative feelings within her child's heart,” Yu said. “Parents should learn to blame less and be more patient.”

1.What amazed Chinese netizens according to the text?

AThe girls' poor marks.

BThe girls' skills against their mothers.

CThe girls' creativity.

DThe girls' tough attitude to their mothers.

2.What do we know about the book?

AIt tells us how to control mothers' feelings.

BIt includes a number of vivid pictures and humorous notes.

CIt is intended for primary school teachers.

DIt is finished by children aged 6 to 12.

3.By posting the cartoons on his microblog, the father wanted to ________.

Ashow off his daughter's cleverness

Bblame his daughter for drawing these cartoons

Cencourage his daughter to make greater progress

Dget other parents to draw a lesson from the cartoons

4.According to a survey, Yu Qinfang found that primary school pupils ________.

Adislike being forced to do things

Blike drawing cartoons in class

Cseldom do well in exams

Denjoy being compared with others

5.We can conclude from the text that ________.

Aparents often ignore their children's hobbies

Bparents often speak highly of their children

Chow to develop children's gifts puzzles parents

Dhow to blame children needs parents' wisdom

Bad teeth can be painful and even be deadly. Infections of the gums(牙齦) and teeth can release bacteria into the blood system. Those bacteria can increase the chance of a heart attack or stroke and worsen the effects of other diseases. And adults are not the only ones at risk. For example, a 12?year?old boy died when a tooth infection spread to his brain in 2007 in Washington. Experts said it might have been prevented had he received the dental care he needed.

Experts say good dental care starts at birth. Breast milk, they say, is the best food for the healthy development of teeth. Breast milk can help slow bacterial growth and acid production in the mouth. But dentists say a baby's gums and early teeth should be cleaned after each feeding by using a cloth with a little warm water. Experts say if you decide to put your baby to sleep with a bottle, give only water.

When baby teeth begin to appear, you can clean them with a wet toothbrush. Dentists say it is important to find soft toothbrushes made especially for babies and to use them very gently. The use of fluoride(氟化物) to protect teeth is common in many parts of the world. For example, it is often added to drinking water supplies. The fluoride mixes with enamel(釉質(zhì)), the hard surface on teeth, to help prevent holes from forming.

But young children often swallow toothpaste when they brush their teeth. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry notes that swallowing fluoridated toothpaste can cause problems. So young children should be carefully watched when they brush their teeth. And only a small amount of fluoridated toothpaste, the size of a pea, should be used.

Parents often wonder what effect finger sucking might have on their baby's teeth. Dental experts generally agree that this is fine early in life. Most children stop sucking their fingers by the age of four. If it continues, experts advise parents to talk to their children's dentists or doctors. Because it could interfere_with the correct development of permanent teeth.

Dentists say children should have their first dental visit at least by the time they are one year old. They say babies should be examined when their first teeth appear—usually at around six months.

1.According to the passage, what is the function of fluoride?

AMaking the surface on teeth much cleaner.

BProtecting gums from being infected.

CKeeping holes on teeth from forming.

DSlowing down bacterial growth and acid production.

2.The underlined phrase “interfere with” in Para.5 probably means “________”

Ado harm to Baccount for

Ccontribute to Dstand for

3.What is the purpose of the author in writing the passage?

ATo warn us of the deadly infections of gums and teeth.

BTo introduce the advantages of fluoridated toothpaste.

CTo draw our attention to the dental care of young children.

DTo present the research results about dental care.
