Still shaky and unsure    to do next, my friends and I went to a table and sat there, trying our best to look   . A moment later, the man came out of the washroom, and    our table. My heart almost stopped   . I thought he was going to ask for my father's    and call him.
To my surprise, he merely smiled at us, handed us some cash and said,"    yourself new hamburgers."
He then walked    without even finishing his food.
He could have made what was already an uncomfortable situation worse,    he chose a different way and gave us a reason to believe that there is still    in this world. I'll never     his actions.

小題1:A考查動(dòng)詞辨析A. ordered命令,點(diǎn)餐;B. made制作;C. arranged 安排;D. demanded要求;根據(jù)首句地點(diǎn)環(huán)境是restaurant,排除arranged和demanded。此句動(dòng)作發(fā)出者是we,承受者是漢堡包和可樂(lè),故作為顧客只能是點(diǎn)餐了。顧客不是制作漢堡盒可樂(lè)的人,故排除made
小題2:A考查名詞辨析A. food信物 B. turn次序;C. bill支票;D. menu菜單;由首句的鋪墊就知道點(diǎn)餐吃飯的話題,根據(jù)上一句點(diǎn)餐之后,自然是指我們所點(diǎn)的食物來(lái)了,故選A

Travel Unaccompanied
Now many young people are traveling around the world on their own, not because they have no one to travel with, but because they prefer to go alone.
Kristina Wegscheider from California first traveled alone when she was at college and believes that it is something everyone should do at least once in their life. “It opens up your mind to new things and pushes you out of your comfort zone.” Wegscheider has visited 46 countries covering all seven continents.
In foreign countries, with no one to help you read a map, look after you if you get ill, or lend you money if your wallet is stolen. It is challenging. This is what drives young people to travel alone. It is seen as character building and a chance to prove that they can make it on their own.
Chris Richardson decided to leave his sales job in Australia to go traveling last year.He set up a website, The Aussie Nomad, to document his adventures. He said he wished he had traveled alone earlier. “The people you meet, the places you visit, or the things you do, everything is up to you and it forces you to grow as a person,” said the 30yearold.
Richardson describes traveling alone like “a shot in the arm”, which “makes you a more confident person that was ready to deal with anything”. He said: “The feeling of having conquered something on my own is a major part of what drives me each day when I'm dealing with a difficult task. I walk around with my head up because I know deep down inside that nothing is impossible if you try.”
The great 19th century explorer John Muir once said: “Only by going alone in silence can one truly get into the heart of the wilderness.”

Puppy Food
A puppy (young dog) is a precious addition to any family. The excitement of bringing home a little furry friend will always live in our memories. Like all of us, though, your puppy must have adequate nutrition(營(yíng)養(yǎng)) right from the start to make certain that it’ll have a long and healthy life.
小題1:  You might ask yourself what is the best for your new pet with all of the different varieties on the market in all of their attractive packaging. Some dry food produced specially for puppies is the best for the development of their teeth.   小題2:
Contrary to the belief of many first-time puppy owners, it is not always the best idea to purchase food that is too high in calcium (鈣), protein, and vitamin levels.   小題3:  In addition, a high intake of calcium is associated with bone disease in large-breed dogs. If you have a “small-breed” puppy, you can buy that kind of food.
It is not a good idea to feed the food you eat to your puppy frequently, as your puppy may become selective about food.   小題4:  Some people think that dog biscuits and other treats are fine, but they should not be a main part of puppy’s diet.
Young puppies should be fed three times a day. Each puppy is unique, however, so feeding them twice a day is acceptable. After ten to twelve weeks of age, feed your puppy twice per day. Allow your puppy to eat as much as he would like in fifteen minutes.   小題5:  If you let your puppy eat too much or too often by keeping food accessible at all times, he may become overweight and have health problems as an adult. Like humans, your puppy will not enjoy the food any longer if it is there at all times.
A.Pick up the dish with the remaining food.
B.Proper food is a basic necessity for your puppies.
C.Remember to give your puppy the food he would like to have.
D.It can also cause an upset stomach due to an unbalanced diet.
E. A further benefit is that it is less expensive than the canned food.
F. One example is that extra helpings of nutrients do harm to digestive organs.
G. It’s good to provide the extra nutrients a puppy needs until he grows larger.

There are a number of different ways to study a language, each of which has advantages and disadvantages. You may find a combination of these is a best choice for you.
If you can find a course in the language you want to learn in your country, this is quite a good way to study. A variety of courses are usually available, including part-time and full-time courses. If you look around, you can probably find a course that suits your needs.
The main advantage of such courses is that you’ll have a teacher to provide you with instructions, support and with whom to practice your language. You will also be studying with others who are at more or less the same level and you can exchange ideas with them and help one another.
One choice is to study a language in a country where it’s spoken. There are many schools teaching English, French, Spanish, Italian and German, but far fewer teaching other languages. The main advantage of studying abroad is that you are totally in the language, not just in class, but the rest of the time as well. As a result, you can make rapid progress.
The main disadvantage of studying abroad is the cost, not just of your course, but also of your food and travel. However, if you’re a native speaker of English, you could get a job teaching English in a country where the language you want to learn is spoken.
Studying online is also a good choice. There are plenty to choose from a lot of languages. Many are free but there are some you have to pay for. Some of the paid ones provide support from teachers via email, chat programs, video conferencing, telephone or even face to face.

D.You can get any job you like after studying abroad.

If you want to see climate change, head north and keep going until you run out of globe. That is easier said than done. The Arctic (北極) is home to few people and covered in ice much of the year. But those who make their way to the icy seas of the Arctic Ocean will see a part of the planet that is warming and changing faster than anywhere else.
In September, scientists announced at the National Snow and Ice Data (數(shù)據(jù)) Center that Arctic summer sea ice had fallen to its second lowest level since 1979, and probably long before that. The Arctic has lost an area of ice greater than the area of all U.S. states east of the Mississippi River. And what ice remains appears to be getting thinner and weaker.
Nick Toberg and Till Wagner are polar ice scientists who are doing sea ice fieldwork. “There is plenty of data to suggest that the ice is becoming thinner as well as smaller in area,” they say.
The changes happening in the Arctic are a warning for the entire world .  As polar expert Walt
Meier puts it, “What happens in the Arctic doesn’t stay in the Arctic.”
Some scientists worry that Arctic sea ice may be going from a downward spiral (螺旋線) to a “death spiral”, one from which there is no escape. As more ice melts (融化), more dark open water appears. The darkness absorbs (吸收) more heat, which speeds up the pace of melting.
Until recently, many scientists thought it might take until the end of the century for the North Pole to become completely ice free during the summer. Now some believe it could happen by 2030 or even earlier. “The melting is happening faster in the real world than it has in the models,” says Nick Toberg.
小題1:The purpose of the first paragraph is to tell readers __________.
A.it’s difficult to arrive at the Arctic
B.it is too cold for people to live in the Arctic
C.what caused the climate change in the Arctic
D.we can see the most obvious climate change in the Arctic
小題2:From the second paragraph we can learn Arctic summer sea ice __________.
A.is still decreasing
B.began reducing in 1979
C.fell to its lowest level in September
D.is equal to the Mississippi River
小題3:What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.The changes don’t affect the Arctic at all.
B.The changes will only happen in the Arctic.
C.The changes happening in the Arctic will stop.
D.The changes will also affect other parts of the world.
小題4:Nick Toberg may agree that __________.
A.the ice in the North Pole will stop melting
B.the ice in the North Pole is melting faster than expected
C.the ice in the North Pole will melt before 2030 or even earlier
D.the ice in the North Pole will not disappear until the end of the century

Love is a telephone which always keeps silent when you are longing for a call, but rings when you are not ready for it. As a result, we often miss the sweetness from the other end.
Love is a telephone which is seldom program-controlled or directly dialed. You cannot get an immediate answer by a mere "hello", let alone go deep into your lover's heart by one call. Usually it had to be relayed by an operator, and you have to be patient in waiting. Destiny(命運(yùn)) is the operator of this phone, who is always irresponsible and fond of playing practical jokes to which she may make you a lifelong victim intentionally or unintentionally.
Love is a telephone which is always busy, When you are ready to die for love, you only find, to your disappointment, the line is already occupied by someone else, and you are greeted only by a busy line. This is an eternal regret handed down from generation to generation and you are only one of those who languish for(因…受煎熬) followers.
