It was a normal Monday morning at an assembly, and the old headmaster was addressing the students on important things in life and about 21 ourselves to what is important to us. This is how the story went:
An old man lived in a certain part of London, and he would wake up every morning and go to the 22 . He would get the train right to Central London, and then sit at the street corner and 23 . He would do this every single day of his life. He sat at the same street corner and begged for almost 20 years.
His house was filthy (骯臟的), and a stench came out of the house and it smelled 24 . The neighbors could not 25 the smell anymore, so they summoned the police officers to 26 the place. The officers 27 down the door and cleaned the house. There were small bags of 28 all over the house that he had 29 over the years.
The police counted the money, and they soon realized that the old man was a 30 . They waited outside his house in anticipation (預(yù)料) to 31 the good news with him. When he arrived home that evening, he was met by one of the officers who told him that there was no 32 for him to beg any more as he was a rich man now, a millionaire.
He said 33 at all; he went into his house and locked the door. The next morning he woke up as usual, went to the street and continued to beg.
34 , this old man had no great plans, dreams or anything 35 for his life. We learn nothing from this story other than staying 36 the things we enjoy doing, commitment.
We should remain true to our course, which may mean devoting yourselves to things that people around you would 37 disapprove. Let nothing distract us from being happy, let nothing else determine our fate, but 38 .
What makes us happy is what 39 in the end…not what we acquire (獲得).
This particular story is one such lesson that I will never forget. Every time I don’t concentrate on course, I get 40 of this story.

A while ago my family and I went sledding. As I watched my children climbing up the slope, I started 36 .
Many people are 37 that most of today’s social problems are because of the “me ” generation; youngsters are just out for 38 and pay no attention to others or their needs. Indeed, a common belief is that today’s youngsters won’t do anything 39 there is something in it for them.
Yet, while sledding, I saw a 40 side to youngsters. I watched my two oldest children 41 my youngest by the hand to help her up the slippery slope each time they 42 . They would have been faster 43 her, but not once did they try to 44 her without helping.
