Boxing games are truly widely supported by a lot of people over the world . The sport involves two people fighting with each other inside a ring with a referee making sure that the fight goes on smoothly. The fighters have to be of the same weight to be able to fight and they make use of their fists according to the rules of competition.
There are three ways in winning the game. First, you have to knock out the challenger. Secondly, there is the technical knockout (擊倒). This usually happens when the rival is seriously hurt and unable to carry on and defend himself. Thirdly, each boxer gets on with the fight until the last round is over and done with and the winner is judged according to the scores he gets.
The first boxing champion was James Figg who came from England. It was in 1719 that the word "boxing" was known. The sport then was completely different from what you are used to seeing and observing nowadays. In 1743 Jack Broughton, a boxing title holder, was responsible for coming up with the rules and regulations to make the fight more manageable.
Under these rules, a boxer who falls and does not fight after 30 seconds has elapsed is declared the loser and any fighter is prevented from hitting his opponent when he is already down. Broughton was also the one who created the mufflers -- a kind of gloves with padding which were used during presentations and training.
Today, the sport has a total of 12 rounds with three minutes playing time for each round. Boxers are given a minute for them to rest or for consultation with their respective coaches. A referee has the responsibility of making sure that the boxers carry on with the fight according to the rules of the sport. The judges have the task of evaluating each fighter and give the fighter scores according to their punches(拳法).

Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage and required words limit. Write your answers on your answer sheet.

Marti Sementelli has been a baseball player since preschool, throwing plastic balls and swinging a tiny wood bat from the time she was 3 years old. She was a solid player at every youth level, and sometimes a star. In 2007, Nike even featured the young Californian in a TV commercial.

Despite her experience, Sementelli, now 16, had a hard time finding a high school that would allow her to try out for the boys’ baseball team.

Two parochial schools (教會學(xué)校) near her family’s home in North Hollywood said no, and several public schools were lukewarm (冷淡的) to the idea. Finally, she found Burbank High School, where she’s now a sophomore and a member of the JV baseball team.

Sementelli’s story is not unique. Across the country, girls devoted to baseball--and with as many seasons of youth ball under their belts as their male teammates--are finding it isn’t easy to stay in the sport when they reach high school.

Biology does play a role in the situation: Boys, especially older ones, often have an edge over girls in size and strength, allowing them to throw harder and swing with greater force. But girls say that the toughest battles are not about capabilities, but against the traditional attitude that baseball is for boys.

“Most people just are incapable of seeing beyond what’s easy,” says Jennifer Ring, the author of Stolen Bases: Why American Girls Don’t Play Baseball, and a professor at the University of Nevada-Reno. “It is much neater if we say boys play baseball and girls play other sports.”

In at least one state, Massachusetts, girls are barred from trying out for boys’ baseball in high schools that also offer softball. Nebraska dropped its ban last year, and in January, Indiana removed its ban after being sued (控告) by the parents of Logan Young, a 15-year-old aspiring catcher and freshman at Bloomington South High School.

1.When did Sementelli begin to play baseball? (no more than 6 words)

2.Where did Sementelli stay in a baseball team? (no more than 6 words)

3.What does the author think about girls’ capabilities in baseball? (no more than 10 words)

4.In which states are girls allowed to play baseball? (no more than 4 words)

Just as mankind has always had a desire to fly, the human race has wanted to swim under the water since prehistoric times. Pictures of primitive devices to enable people to breathe underwater have been found dating from 3000 years ago, but our dream of moving freely beneath the ocean waves for long periods of time was only realized about 60 years ago, when French diving legend Jacques Cousteau developed the first practical Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus(SCUBA). Since then the sport of SCUBA diving has gone from strength to strength.

Lovers of SCUBA diving like the feeling of weightlessness, the peace and quiet under the water, the ability to move in three dimensions and the sense of adventure they get while on a dive. SCUBA divers often travel to some of the most beautiful and remote places in the world in the search for rare underwater flora and fauna(動、植物). Palau, The Red Sea, The Maldives and Hawaii have many of the most popular diving sites, but recreational divers often have to make do with less exotic local destinations, like the North Sea in Britain.

SCUBA diving is not without its dangers, however. The mixture of nitrogen and oxygen divers breathe underwater, combined with the pressure under the water can be deadly if a diver rises too quickly to the surface, causing a condition called ‘the bends’. Divers can also get lost or trapped when diving on wrecks, and fatalities(死亡)are particularly common in cave diving, where divers add to the dangers of diving by swimming through underground caves filled with water. Diving can also be harmful to the underwater environment. However with proper precautions diving can open up a whole new world, far from the stresses of daily life.

63. What is the writer trying to do in the text?

A. Advertise some popular diving sites.

B. Describe how to dive underwater.

C. Warn people against diving in the sea.

D. Give information about SCUBA diving.

64. What can the reader learn from the text?

A. There is uncertainty about SCUBA diving safety.

B. Divers have caused a lot of damage to the environment.

C. SCUBA diving is an old sport with a long history.

D. Divers always face the pressures in their life.

65. How might the writer describe SCUBA diving?

A. Interesting.   B. Relaxing.   C. Frightening         D. Unpleasant.

66. What do you think the author is most likely to suggest if he continues to write?

A. Getting out to dive underwater.   B. Stopping damaging environment.

C. Making better use of SCUBA.       D. Getting over the troubles of daily life.

Jamaican sprinter (短跑選手) Usain Bolt plans to send a message to rival Tyson Gay by breaking the world 100m record in the London Grand Prix on Friday.

Bolt, who won gold in the 100m, 200m and 4*100m relay in record times at the Beijing Olympics last year, is determined to use the Crystal Palace event to crush the morale (士氣) of his main rival for gold at next month’s World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

The 22-year-old is slowly returning to peak form after posting 19.59 sec for the 200m in Lausanne earlier this month and clocking a time of 9.79 sec over 100m in cold, rainy conditions in Paris.

Despite Bolt’s impressive times, Gay still believes he has the beating of the Jamaican. But Bolt insists there is no one in the sport who scares him and he will prove the point in south London this weekend.

Although Bolt believes he is only running at 85 percent at the moment while he recovers from injuries suffered in a recent car crash in Jamaica, he sees no reason why he can’t break his world record 100m time of 9.69 seconds.

However he won’t get the chance to take on Gay in the 100m in London as the American is only running in the 200m, which Bolt is not competing in, so he will have to settle for underlining his own ability.

“You never know what is possible. I will give my best either way. My friends are saying I’m bringing the rain wherever I go but we will see on Friday.”

While Bolt would love to make a big impact in London, he knows the main event is the World Championships.

“The London Grand Prix will show me where I’m at and what I need to do. After, we can analyse what I need to do ahead of the World Championships.”

1. According to the passage, Bolt competed and will compete in the following event. Which of them is arranged in time order?

a. Lausanne athletics gold league matches        b. Beijing Olympic Games

c. Paris athletics gold league matches            d. World Athletic championships

e. London grand Prix

A. b-c-a-e-d

B. b-c-a-d-e     C. b-a-c-e-d    D. b-a-c-d-e

2.What does the underlined phrase “take on” mean in paragraph 6?

A. employ        B. compete against C. accept         D. develop

3.Which of the following is true?

A. Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt broke the world 100m record in the London Grand Prix on Friday.

B. Bolt will not compete in the 200m in London because of Gay’s impressive times.

C. Bolt won 3 gold medals at the Beijing Olympic Games at the age of 22.

D. Bolt suffered a car crash in Jamaica recently.

4.What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?

A. Bolt is expecting the London Grand Prix.

B. Bolt thinks the world Championships is more important.

C. Bolt made a big difference in the London Grand Prix.

D. Bolt is not confident in his success in the London Grand Prix.
