Have you seen the movie The Day After Tomorrow In the movie, the world becomes a large ocean because of global warming. It seems impossible, but if we don't cut carbon emissions (碳相卜放) to stop the temperature from rising, there will be real disasters.

What is global warming? Global warming refers to an average rise in the Earth's temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate. Over the past 100 years, the Earth's temperature has risen one degree. A warmer     Earth may lead to changes in rainfall, melting of icebergs and an impact (影響) on plants, animals and humans. As the sea level rises, some countries are in danger of disappearing.

Carbon dioxide is the major greenhouse gas that causes global warming. It mainly comes from factories and cars which burn fossil fuels (化石燃料) like coal and gasoline (汽油) . Governments hope to cut carbon emissions by 25 —45 percent by 2020. The EU plans to cut emissions by 20 percent by 2020. It can cut as much as 30 percent if other developed countries take action, too.

For developing countries,to grow their economies, they have to build more factories, and carbon dioxide will be a byproduct (副 產(chǎn)品) . So,cutting emissions means slowing down their development. However, they are looking for new ways out. For   exmple,China says it will continue to develop solar (太陽的) and wind power, and will try to cut carbon emissions significantly hf 2020.

It's a terrible feeling. You feel sick, tired, and the room won’t stop spinning. Whafs wrong with you? Perhaps you are experiencing motion sickness. Motion sickness, also called travel sickness,is a common experience. Depending on how you travel,it can be named carsickness or seasickness. You may get the feeling when you try to read a book in a car or on a boat. Even astronauts train hard to fight motion sickness before going into space.

But why do we get motion sickness? And how can we prevent it?

We have four functions which sense movement. Our eyes see if we are moving. The ears contain special liquid to sense direction, while our skin knows what part of the body is touching the ground. Our muscles react to movement, like when you stop yourself swaying (搖擺) when the car sharply turns. When these four functions get puzzled, they start sending mixed messages to our brain, and we develop motion sickness.

Just think: when we’re in a moving car and reading a book. Our eyes see we are moving when we look out of the window, but still (靜止的) when we read. The ears hear the car moving, yet the skin says we are sitting dowh. Muscles may only feel movement if the car turns. So our senses are all out of balance, and we start to feel ill.

But here's some good news to fight motion sickness. Choose an aisle (過道) seat on a plane, train and sit in the front of a car. Avoid standing. Always face the same way you’re traveling and leave your books at home.

Why don't some people get motion sickness? Scientists are still working on it,but they think genes may play a part.
