There are many kinds of friends. Many people will step in your life, but only  true friends leave footprints (腳印). I shall always recall (回憶) the autumn and the girl with the __ ____. I know she will always be my best friend. It was the golden season. I liked walking alone in the leaves, __    to the sound of them.
Autumn is a        season but life is uninteresting. The free days always get me down. But one day, the sound of a violin  flowed  into my ears. A young girl, standing in the wind, was interested in playing her violin. I had          seen her before. The music was so nice that I listened     . Lost in the music, I didn't know that I had been standing there for so long. But it did not seem to disturb her.
Leaves were still falling. Every day she played the violin in the corner of the building _ ___I went downstairs to watch her performance. I was the only        .
Autumn was nearly over. One day, when I was listening carefully, the sound suddenly  ______.To my surprise, the girl came over to me.
"You must like violin." she said.
"Yes. And you play very well. Why did you stop?" I asked.
Suddenly, a sad expression appeared       her face and I could feel something unusual. "I came here to see my grandmother, but now I must leave. I once played very badly. It was        listening every day that encouraged me." she said.
"In fact, it was your playing  that  gave me a meaningful autumn," I answered, "Let's be friends."

What makes 15,000 men and women run for hours, and what makes them run through the streets on a cold day without coats? I was one of those runners.  The race is called marathon (馬拉松).
I had never run more than eight miles before, and here I was training.  Since the race is in April, I had to run throughout the winter, and in Boston, winters are cold. For most people, just putting on their shirts, sweaters, jackets, and hats is exercise enough. I found myself out on the dark streets, running along ice sidewalks (人行道). Even in gloves, my fingers got so cold that they looked like red carrots. My nose didn’t get warm until lunchtime !
Finally, the big day arrived. The weather was cold, with ice and rain. Bang! The gun sounded, and we started. I didn’t go anywhere at first because I was standing behind so many people. I had to wait for them to move.
At first, the running was easy.  The other runners just seemed to pull me along. Somewhere around the 20-mile mark I even said to myself, "This is nothing, why did I train so hard?"
Then I hit "the wall". "The wall" is what marathon runners call the special point. I knew my body reached the point and I thought I couldn’t go any more. I was out of breath and my legs turned into pieces of wood.  I was almost falling down.  I can’t remember anything about the last five miles of the race.
I kept running though. At last, I heard a voice at the finishing line.
"You look good," my friend Ted said. "How did it feel?"
"Wonderful !" I replied.
For everything, if you devote yourself into it, there will be a way. I finished the race, at least, in my heart, I was the winner.
小題1:Which one best describes the weather on the race day?
A.Cold and rainy.B.Cold and sunny.C.Dry and cloudy.D.Wet and foggy.
小題2: How did the writer feel about the race during the first 20 miles?
A.Difficult.B.Boring.C.Easy.D.Interesting.
小題3: According to the article, what must someone do to prepare for a marathon?
A.One must eat certain food and get plenty of sleep.
B.One must be willing to eat, sleep, and train twenty-four hours a day.
C.One must run along ice sidewalks every day.
D.One must be willing to train a lot and doesn’t give up easily.
小題4:Then I hit "the wall". What do you think "hit the wall" means here?
A.撞擊墻壁B.到達(dá)極限C.抵達(dá)終點(diǎn)D.中途加速

To Max
Today we had to let you go,
It broke our hearts in two,
We had to leave you at that place,
Alone and feeling blue,
The only thing that we could do,
Was to drive back home and cry,
For we just couldn’t keep you,
No matter (無論) how we tried,
You’ll never be forgotten,
As long as we two live,
You gave us all the love,
A little dog could give,
Looking at your small hutch,
We know you are not with us,

Now you’ve finished three years of English study. There’s one way to demonstrate(展示) what you’ve learned-take a test!
Do you have any special methods you use to help you do better on a test? How well you do is often a matter of how well prepared you are. Here are some ways to make sure you’re at your best on test days.
Go to bed early. The night before a test is not the time to stay up watching TV. You want to be rested and wide-awake for test day.
Have a good breakfast. Test day isn’t a morning for donuts. Nor is it a time to starve(挨餓) yourself. Eat plenty of low-sugar, high-energy food to keep your brain and body working their best.
Be prepared. Make sure you have two pencils and anything else you were asked to bring.
Watch the numbers. Make sure that the number of the items(項目) on your answer sheet matches the number of the question.
Look over all the answer choices. Don’t assume(假定) that choice A is correct until you’ve checked the others. You may find a better one. And it is wrong to eliminate(排除) any choice that you can see at once. You’ll have a better chance of finding the right answer.
Check the clock. Make sure you allow yourself enough time to answer every question and go back and check your answers. Don’t spend too much time on any difficult question. Skip it and come back to it later.
Keep up with your schoolwork all year long. That’s how you get the skills you need for
taking test.
小題1: Is taking a test a way to demonstrate what you’ve learned?
小題2: How many ways are mentioned in this passage?
小題3: What should you take to prepare for a test?
小題4:What do you do if you meet any difficult question?
小題5:What’s the passage mainly about?

Today, I felt terrible. My head was full of problems and confusion(暴亂). I decided to take a walk even though I didn't know where to go. The most special thing happened when I was out for this walk.
I saw an old man sitting on a chair. He was a seller of second-hand shoes. I thought he looked at least 70 years old. He seemed so tired and nobody was buying his shoes. I wanted to give him something but I had not brought anything with me.
Then, a little girl came toward him. I heard the child say, "Grandfather, may I polish (擦干凈) your shoes?" That old man took pity on her, smiled and gave her a shoe to polish.
The girl told him she needed money to buy her brother a new school uniform.
"Oh, little girl. Just stop doing this. Come with me and I will buy you a uniform." Then they walked to a market , and he bought her brother a uniform.
The girl said “thanks” to him and left, leaving the old man smiling.
He walked away from the market, but I stopped him. I whispered in his ear, "You are a hero! Thank you for your kindness!"  As I walked away, I looked back and I could see him still smiling.
