It was a Sunday morning. Peter, a seven-year-old boy, watched TV in the room while his brother Bill did his homework. Their father watered the flowers in the garden and their mother went out to do some shopping. At ten the woman came back with a heavy basket. Peter ran up to her. He wanted to know what his mother bought. He found a bag of oranges in it. He liked them very much and wanted to eat. His mother stopped him. She gave five to each son and went to cook food. Peter ate his oranges soon but his brother was busy doing his homework and didn't eat his. Suddenly the telephone rang and Bill ran to answer it. Bill's friend asked him to play football with them. And when Bill talked with his friend, Peter took two of his oranges away and ate them. Bill found it and called him out and beat(打) him behind the house. Peter didn't tell his parents about it.
The next morning Peter’s teacher, Mrs Ball, taught the students subtraction(減法). Peter didn't listen to her carefully and couldn't understand it. So he couldn't answer her questions. The teacher began to give him an example, “If your brother has five oranges and you take two from him, what will the result(結(jié)果)be?”
“He'll beat me, madam,” answered the boy. All his classmates began to laugh.

根據(jù)文章的第一段中their mother went out to do some shopping. At ten the woman came back with a heavy basket可知,Peter的媽媽外出購物。
She gave five to each son……, Peter took two of his oranges away and ate them可知,開始媽媽給了每個孩子5個橘子,Peter吃完后,又拿走了他哥哥的兩個吃了,故Peter一共吃了7個橘子。
The next morning Peter’s teacher, Mrs Ball, taught the students subtraction可知,Mrs.
故選A。
Peter didn't listen to her carefully and couldn't understand it可知,Peter沒有認(rèn)真聽課,所以他不懂,也就不會回答老師的問題。故選B。

When I was fourteen years old, I made my first visit to the United States. It wasn’t the first time I had been abroad (Like many English children, I had often been to France). So when I went to America I thought I would have a nice easy holiday without any language problem.
How wrong I was! The misunderstanding began at the airport. I was looking for a public telephone to tell my American friend Danny that I had arrived. A friendly old man saw me looking lost and asked if he could help me.
“Yes,” I said, “I want to give my friend a ring.”
“Well, that’s nice,” he said, “Are you getting married? But aren’t you too young?”
“Who is talking about marriage?” I replied, “I only want to give my friend a ring to tell him I’ve arrived. Can you tell me where there is a phone box?”
“Oh,” he said, “there is a phone downstairs.”
When at last we met, Danny explained the misunderstanding to me.

It is not easy for people to sail (航海) around the world in quite small boats. Sometimes the weather gets bad. Accidents(事故) can happen easily and quickly.
One family once had an accident. A big fish swam under their boat and bit holes(洞) in it. Sea water came in and the boat soon went down. Luckily these people had another small boat——a lifeboat, so they all got into the lifeboat. They lived in the boat for many days. They ate and slept, and always hoped. At last people in a ship saved them.
How do people live in a very small lifeboat for a long time? They must be strong in every way. They must have a hope, and they must have a strong desire(愿望)to live. People cannot drink seawater. If they drink a lot of sea water, they will quickly die. They must catch rainwater and drink it. They must also catch fish and birds for food. Lifeboats do not often carry cookers.
