Norman Bethune is one of China’s most famous heroes, but he wasn’t Chinese—he was Canadian. He gave his life to helping the Chinese people.

Norman Bethune 46  born in 1890. He became a 47  in 1916, and he went to the front to look after injured soldiers in the First World War. He saw many soldiers die in the war. Later he invented new treatments to 48 soldiers, and medical tools to use outside hospital.

當(dāng)我們潛入藍(lán)藻叢生的滇池底部,去尋找消失已久的栲栳魚,我們想知道究竟是什么污染了我們的湖水?當(dāng)我們在海河岸邊一次又一次見證了打井隊尋找水源的失敗經(jīng)歷時,我們想知道那些地下幾百米的水究竟到哪里去了?
如果世界人均水資源是一滿杯水的話,中國的人均水資源不過僅僅是一個杯底;而且由于時空分布極不均勻,在華北等人口聚集的地區(qū),我們的人均水資源量甚至低于以色列、中東等地區(qū)。
危機不是即將到來,而是已經(jīng)從四面八方悄悄開始。
在富裕的南方,幾十萬人,一夜之間就可能沒有水喝;在淮河岸邊,一場污水過后,所有河蟹養(yǎng)殖戶徹底破產(chǎn);在發(fā)展中的北方,河流的生命幾乎絕跡;長江的河道里,人們花費上百萬元,只是為了尋找到一種名叫白鰭豚的水生魚類;“太湖美”、“汾河清”這樣的歌曲在全國的水污染地圖面前顯得滑稽、尷尬。從北到南,七大流域正在水污染危機崩潰的邊緣。
水是寬容的,因為寬容才產(chǎn)生了生命,也因為這種寬容,它容納了這個世界大部分骯臟的東西。中國的工業(yè)文明發(fā)展史濃縮了西方兩百年的時間,作為代價,中國的河流與湖泊也濃縮了西方兩百年的污染史。利益驅(qū)動、制度缺失、道德淪喪,對比農(nóng)耕文明,對比泰晤士河的治理,一味追求利益與讓中國的江河湖泊重新變清究竟什么最重要?

在開封城幾十公里外,懸在幾百萬人口上方的黃河,又讓我們不斷地思考洪水的出路;在漳河兩岸,每年夏天都會增派武警來保護(hù)水源;在城市里,拉動任何一個抽水馬桶,寧夏缺水地區(qū)全家人一星期的生活用水就全部被沖到了下水道;在有些地方,水很貴,一瓶礦泉水的價格甚至比97號汽油還要貴兩倍……
中國人并不缺乏節(jié)水的歷史、節(jié)水的意識和節(jié)水的技術(shù)?矁壕、北海團(tuán)城這些古老的節(jié)水設(shè)施已經(jīng)使用了幾千年,那么我們?nèi)笔裁茨?對一戶農(nóng)民、一個企業(yè)、一個地區(qū)而言,當(dāng)節(jié)水比浪費水還要多花錢的時候,為什么要節(jié)水?當(dāng)浪費水僅僅只是一個道德問題的時候,我們?yōu)槭裁匆?jié)水?
節(jié)水不僅是我們面對生存危機不得已的選擇,也是考驗我們這個民族道德與制度建設(shè)能力的一次機會。

黃河源頭有“千湖之縣”美譽的瑪多要搬遷了,原因是沒有水;太湖之濱的大款要搬走了,原因是水臟了;世界第四大湖——咸海,已經(jīng)消失了一半;我們兒時記憶中的河流幾乎全部干枯了——我們的祖先是否想象過我們今天的遭遇?
人類的文明誕生在大河兩岸,蘇美爾人的崛起就是因為找到了與水和諧相處的方式;但是,蘇美爾文明的消亡,也正是由于對水的過度利用。兩百多年以前,人類發(fā)明了蒸汽機——一種利用水循環(huán)的機器,它推動著我們到達(dá)了今天的文明程度。我們生活在地球歷史中最美好的時期,但是我們是不是忘記了水可以誕生文明,也可以毀滅文明?
