Some Things I’d like Most to Do
I am going to say goodbye to my junior middle school life after the examination. And then I will enjoy my summer vacation.
During the vacation, what I’d like most to do is to improve my English. My English is the weakest of all the subjects. I worked hard at it, but I made a little progress. I’m not good at reading and writing, so I must do more about it. I’ll read three short stories aloud every morning and keep a diary in English every evening. I’ll remember my English teacher’s advice “If you want to learn English well, the best way is to use it every day.”

In today’s world many people seem to be hungry for money. Some of them even have lost their lives for it. Money does have a great effect on the poor, but if a person has a rich life, a lot more money doesn’t mean more happiness.
If money were everything, all millionaires(百萬富翁)would have true love, real friendship, health and a long life. However, this is not always true.
Nothing else is more pleasant than the three words “I love you”, but can love be bought? I’m afraid not. Love means “give”, not “ take”. Health and a long life are precious(寶貴的)things for every person. Well, can health and a long life be bought with money? The answer is “No”. Of all the people who live longest in the world, few of them are millionaires. Real friendship can’t be bought, either.
In a word, where money is worshiped, money can cause brothers to quarrel, lovers to hate, strangers to fight and so on. No matter how much money you have, it is still not enough to make you a happy person if you have no one to laugh with and no one to cry for.

Mrs. Thompson stood in front of her 5th grade class on the first day of school. She found a boy sleeping in his seat. He was Teddy. Also Thompson noticed the boy didn't play well with the other children. It got to the point "F" at the top of his papers. Mrs. Thompson reviewed each child's past records. However, when she reviewed Teddy's file(檔案), she was in a surprise.
Teddy's first grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is a bright child. He does his work neatly and has good manners..."
His second grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is an excellent student, but he is troubled because his mother has an illness and life at home is difficult."
His third grade teacher wrote, "His mother's death had been hard on him. He tries his best, but his father doesn't show much interest in his study..."
Teddy's fourth grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is withdrawn and doesn’t talk with other’s. Also he doesn't show much interest in school. He doesn't have many friends and he sometimes sleeps in class."
By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem. She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas presents wrapped in beautiful and bright paper, except for Teddy’s.
