—My dad bought me a new MP4, but I don’t know __________.

—Let’s read the instruction.

A. what to use B. how to use it

C. what to use it D. when to use it

B

【解析】

試題分析:句意: ---爸爸給我買了個新的MP4,但我不知道如何用。---我們一起看下說明書吧。How to use it如何使用它。use為及物動詞,后面有it作賓語,只能how修飾不定式,故選B。

考點:考查疑問詞與不定式連用。

Cows that are named and treated with a “more personal touch” can increase milk production by up to 500 pints a year.

The study, by the university’s School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, involved(包括) 516 farmers across the UK.

The study found farmers who named their cows got a 54% higher production than those that did not give their cows names. Dairy farmer Dennis Gibb said he believed treating every cow as an individual(個體) was very important.

“They aren’t just our means of making money. They’re part of the family,” he said. “We love our cows here and every one of them has a name. All of us regard them as ‘our ladies’ but we know every one of them and each one has her own personality.”

Dr Catherine Douglas said, “What our study shows is what many good, caring farmers have long since believed. Our data suggests that UK dairy farmers regard their cows as intelligent beings(智能動物). They are able to experience a range of emotions(情感的領域).”

“Placing more importance on knowing the individual animals and calling them by name can, at no extra cost to the farmer, also increase milk production.”

閱讀理解(20小題,每小題2分,共40分)

Not long ago, I asked large mid-aged persons a question. I asked, “How many of you had a hobby when you were children?” Nearly everyone raised a hand. I then asked them to keep their hands in the air if they knew at least one of their children had a hobby. Most of the hands went down. I felt sad. It’s terrible if the children don’t have a hobby. How I wish all the parents can care their children’s hobbies!

Thirty years ago, almost every child in my neighborhood had some kinds of hobbies. Collecting and trading baseball cards was a popular hobby. Others, like coin collecting and stamp collecting, are also popular. One of my friends was collecting photos, another was collecting radios. In fact, hobbies can benefit children in several ways. They are expressions of personal success and self-discovery(自我發(fā)現(xiàn)). Hobbies also help build self- respect(自尊). Hobbies are educational tools, as well. For example, a child who becomes interested in rocketry (火箭技術) —one of the most popular hobbies, can explore those skills in many ways. By working on hobbies, children learn to set goals, make decisions, and solve all sorts of problems.
