Paris—French President Nicolas Sarkozy said he would clear over 300 Roma camps in France. He will send more than 700 Roma back to their native countries, including Romania (羅馬尼亞) and Bulgaria (保加利亞) in the next three months.
Many French people disagree with Sarkozy’s move. Some European countries don’t agree with the move, either. They say it goes against human rights. However, Sarkozy has made up his mind. Police have been clearing Roma camps.
Roma are also called gypsies (吉普賽人). They came from India. They left their homeland sometime during the 11th century and entered Europe in the 14th century. Today there are 2-5 million gypsies. Most of them live in Eastern Europe.
They traveled everywhere and made a living as actors, actresses, workers, and by selling goods from faraway lands. Most gypsies are very poor and their children don’t go to school. Some gypsies can’t find work so they make a living begging (乞討) or stealing. The French government thinks gypsies bring a lot of social problems. That’s why Sarkozy wants them out of France.
Sarkozy’s move, however, won’t solve the gypsy problems in France for the long term. According to EU (歐盟) laws, the gypsies of EU member countries are free to go to another EU member country, like France. They can stay there for up to three months. Students these days often have a lot of worries. Sometimes they have problems with their schoolwork, and sometimes with their friends.      Some people think the worst thing is to do nothing. Laura Mills, a teenager from Washington, agrees. “Problems and worries are normal in life,” says Laura. “But I think talking to someone helps a lot. If we don’t talk to someone, we’ll certainly feel worse.”
Laura once lost her purse, and worried for days. She was afraid to tell her parents shout it. She even walked three miles to school each day because she didn’t have any money. She just kept thinking. “If I tell my parents, they’ll be angry!” But in the end, she talked to her parents and they were really understanding. Her dad said he sometimes made careless mistakes himself. They got her a new purse and asked her to be more careful. “I will always remember to share my problems in the future!” Laura says.
Robert Hunt advises students about common problems. He feels the same way as Laura. “It is best not to avoid our problems. We should always try to solve (解決) them.” He thinks that you can first find someone to talk to. This person doesn’t need to be an expert (專(zhuān)家) like himself. Students often forget that their parents have more experience than them, and are always there to help them.
In English, we say that sharing a problem is like cutting it in half. So you’re halfway to solving a problem if you talk to someone about it!

“Mom,” she shouted, “I think I will mow the lawn.” Her mom ran into the yard and said, “Oh no, you don’t. You’re too young to mow the law.”
“I’m fourteen years old and know how to do it,” Jessie said. “Besides, it would help Dad out, and he won’t have to worry about it over the weekend.”

Can plants eat people? Probably not, but there are many plants that eat meat. Some of them are big. And they can eat small animals. One famous meat-eating plant is the Venus flytrap.
The Venus flytrap is a very strange plant. It grows in dry parts of the United States. Its leaves are like the pages of a book. They can open and close very quickly. Inside the leaves, there are three small hairs. If a fly(蚊子) touches one of the hairs, the leaf close quickly. The fly cannot get out. In about half an hour, the leaf presses(擠壓) the fly until it is dead. Then, the plant covers the fly. Slowly, the plant eats the fly.
How can that happen? Most plants get what they need from the sun, the air, and the ground. In some places, the ground is very poor. It doesn’t have all these important things, especially nitrogen(氮). Animal meat has a lot of nitrogen, so some plants eat meat to get what they need. Let’s hope that some of the bigger plants don’t get the same idea!
