The Internet is becoming more and more important in our life. You can get a lot of information, make friends. share your ideas, send emails and chat at any time or anywhere. However, imagine you receive an email that looks something like this: ARE YOU GOING TO CLASS TODAY? How does reading this message make you feel? Why did the sender use all capital(大寫) letters? Was he or she angry, or did that person just forget to turn off the ‘Cap lock’ on the computer? The fact is, using all capital letters in an email means that people shout online. Virginia Shea’ s book, Netiquette, lists some ways of communicating(交流) properly with others on the Internet. Following are some of her suggestions.
◆First, always remember that you are sending messages to a real person, not just to a computer. Don’t write anything that you wouldn’t say to someone’s face. Also, remember that the receiver cannot hear your voice, or see the expression(表情)on your face, so make sure your meaning is clear.
◆Don’t do anything online that you wouldn’t do in real life. Don’t take anything without paying for it . Don’t use information that someone else has written, and say it’s yours. Don’t read other people’s email—you wouldn’t open your next –door neighbor’s mailbox and open their mail, right? Do share your knowledge of the Internet with others. It’s a big place with lots of information, and there are many new things to discover.
◆Remember that people judge(判斷) you by your words as well as your actions, so do try to write well. Send polite, well-written email messages to others. If you’re not sure about how to spell a word or which phrase to use, look it up. There are lots of helpful books and websites.
◆It’s OK to share your ideas online like chat rooms or message boards, but don’t argue(爭(zhēng)吵) with people . ‘Flame wars’ in online discussions can be interesting to read, but are often unfair(不公平) to other members of the group. Share your ideas, but remember that fighting on or offline is just not correct.
When you’re online, just as in ‘real’ life, try to respect (尊重) other people’s space and feelings. Remember, you’re not the only one traveling on this highway!

I and many other people in Britain love charity (慈善) shops because we can find them on every street. The charity shops sell all kinds of things and they are very cheap.
The first charity shop was opened by Oxfam in 1947. Now there are over 7,000 charity shops in the UK. My favourite charity shop in my hometown is the Red Cross Shop. There I always find children's books, all 10 to 20 pence each. They are really cheap.
Most of the shop workers in charity shops are volunteers (志愿者), ________ each shop has a manager and he gets some money. Every morning you see bags of things outside the shops. Some people bring and put them there without waiting for thanks. In fact, over 90% of the things in charity shops are from kind people.
All the money the shops get goes to charity work. Charity shops raise more than 110 million pounds every year. The money is for sick and poor children, homeless and disabled people, and many others. In a charity shop you can get cheap but nice things. You might even feel special while shopping.

Americans love sports . But this hobby sometimes has serious results—at least to the players. For example, when people play tennis, sometimes they hurt their elbow(肘部). Also it is easy to hurt a knee in a football game. These injuries(毀傷)happen while the player is having fun, but they still hurt.
A few months ago, Kathleen Simmons, who loves playing volleyball, hurt her knee in a volleyball game. Her doctor told her that she needed a very difficult operation(手術(shù))or she might not be able to play again. She felt very sad
Then Simmons learned about “video operation”. With the help of this new science in medicine, doctors can now repair many injuries.
For this operation, her doctor didn’t have to open her knee. Instead he put a very small camera lens(鏡頭)inside her knee. The lens sent back pictures, which appeared on a television screen. As he worked, he could see the inside of her knee on the TV. With the help of the large pictures on the screen, the doctor knew exactly what to do when he was making the repairs.
Simmons started walking five days after her operation. “My knee hurt a lot the first few days,” she said. “But I felt better very quickly.” Now, six months after her operation, Simmons can do everything she did before her injury. “It feels like a new knee,” she said. “I can even play volleyball again.”
小題1:Do Americans love sports?
小題2:What sport is Simmons interested in?
小題3:What did the doctor put inside Simmons’ knee?
小題4:What problem may people have when they play sports?
小題5:Can Simmons do everything like before?

根據(jù)描述為下列人物選擇應(yīng)該借鑒文章中的哪條建議(將相應(yīng)數(shù)字序號(hào)填在橫線上)
How to Make Friends
1. It’s hard to make friends if you stay home alone all the time. Get out of the house and do things that will put you in touch with other people. Join a club or play a sport. Attend meetings or other groups. It’s easier to make friends when you have similar interests.
2. Learn from people who seem to have lots of friends. Watch carefully how they make and keep friends. Don’t copy all of the things they do, but try to notice what they do. Then try some of those things yourself.
3. Don’t be afraid to show people what you’re really good at. Talk about the things you like and do best. Don’t hide your strong points. People will be interested in you if there is something interesting about you.
4. Plan things to talk about with people. Find out what’s in the newspaper headlines, listen to CDs, learn about what’s new with your favorite TV or movie star. The more you have to say, the more people will be interested in having a conversation with you
5. Look people in the eye when you talk to them. That way, they’ll find it easier to talk to you. It’s very difficult to have a conversation with people whose eyes are looking to the left, to the right, or at the floor. People may think you’re not interested in them and may stop being interested in you.
6. Be a good listener. Let people talk about themselves before talking about “me, me, me.” Ask lots of questions and show an interest in their answers.
____4_______a. Tony is never sure what to talk about when he meets people.
____________b. Rose wants to know why her classmate, Cindy, is so good at making friends.

閱讀短文,按要求完成各題。
If the eyes are the windows of the soul, then the body is the mirror of our feelings. If we are feeling great, we may give our body signals(信號(hào)). If we look at someone else’s body, we can often tell how thy are feeling by their body signals. So reading body language signals is a great tool in daily communication.
In case(假使) you don’t think that learning how to read and use body language is important, here are some numbers for you. 7% of the information we receive is from what people actually say, and 38% of the information we receive is from the tone(語(yǔ)氣) and the speed of their voice; while 55% of the information we receive is from their body language.
These non-verbal(非語(yǔ)言的) signals will help you a lot, but you still need to focus on what people are saying. If you focus too much on their body language signals, you and the person may feel uncomfortable. It is useful to be able to read people’s body language, but it is useful to learn how to send the right signals and avoid the wrong signals too. Body language may be given several interpretations. Many signals have different meanings, depending on the person and the situation. Be sure of it when you are trying to read a body language signal.
Facial expression is one of the body languages. Facial expressions are one or more movements on a person’s face, such as frowning(皺眉),raising your eyebrows and rolling(旋轉(zhuǎn)) your eyes. Scientists say that humans have 80 muscles(肌肉) on their faces. These muscles can make 7.000 different facial expressions. These expressions can be put into six classes. They are happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, fear and disgust(厭惡)。
For example, when people think a certain food tastes disgusting, they usually make a funny face. When people are surprised, they often raise their eyebrows and open their eyes wide.
If people can read facial expressions correctly, they may be better at knowing other people’s feelings. That can help people make more friends. However, sometimes people have to be careful when reading others’ faces. It’s rude to stare at others for a long time.
