A new term has begun. Teachers are   1  about the fact that new students are not easy to deal with(對付). They like to bring telephones(手機) and MP3 players to school. What is   2  , some students even use telephones to do out-of-class matters in class, or sometimes just for fun. Some otherstudents listen to MP3 players when they are having a lesson that they are not interested in.
Are these new students really that  3 ? “Yes.” says Delaney Kirk, a professor at Drake University.   4  she says it’s not their fault(過錯).   5 , the teachers should be blamed(責(zé)備). Mrs Kirk first began thinking about students’ manners six years ago. “I had my first class in which students were sleeping or talking to each other. It seemed that learning well had nothing to do with them.” she says. “At first, I got worried about this.” but then I said to myself, “You’re giving   6  , and you need to deal with this kind of situation (情況). These students need to know more about manners. It’s time to help them develop some good   7  . They shouldn’t waste time doing nothing when they are young. Sooner or later, they may regret(后悔) the time they have wasted.”
Mrs Kirk also   8  a list of suggestions(建議) to help teachers better manage (控制) their classes. The following are among her suggestions:
l     On the first day of class, tell students how they will benefit(受益) by taking the class and the importance   9  listening carefully in class.
l     Do not allow(允許) them to bring telephones or MP3 players to the class at all.
l     Tell them how to use telephones or MP3 players   10  .

This was not going to be a Mother’s Day as before. A lot of things had changed in the last few months. Usually we would give Mom flowers and take her out for a big meal. We couldn’t afford it this year.
Since I was born, Mom had been able to stay at home with me. We always had enough money to go out to eat two or three times a week if I had behaved well.
All that changed in January.
I could tell that Dad was getting a little angry. Mom would tell me to be quiet and let him rest at night. He’d work later and later.
Beginning in February, Dad tried hard to find another job. But it wasn’t easy for him to find something at the level he used to. He could not bring in as much money. That’s when he asked my mom to go back to work.
After a couple of weeks, Mom found a full-time job at a bank. The pay would be a big help to the family, but now Mom would not be around as much. I didn’t like it. I now had to stay in the after-school care program instead of going home and playing in my neighborhood. Too bad was, as soon as I did get home, I had to help get dinner ready, because Mom wouldn’t get home until after 6:00. I really missed the past time.
a)        This was not going to be a Mother’s Day as before because the writer’s father wasn’t in
b)       The writer’s home used to be rich.
c)        His family changed because his father was mad.
d)       In February, the writer’s mother started to work at a bank.
e)        The writer really wanted his mother to stay with him

One bag, that’s it.

The importance of packing light cannot be overemphasized(過度強調(diào)). Limit yourself to 20 pounds in a carry-on bag. A 9’× 22’ ×14’ bag fits under most airplane seats. And after you enjoy that sweet mobility and freedom, you’ll never go any other way.
You’ll walk with your luggage(行李) more than you think you will. Before leaving home, give yourself a test. Pack up completely, and practice being a tourist for an hour. Fully loaded, you should enjoy window-shopping. If you can’t, go home and thin things out.
Packing light isn’t just about the trip over and back—it’s about your traveling lifestyle. Too much luggage marks you as a typical tourist. It slams the back door shut. Changing locations becomes an important operation. With only one bag, you’re mobile and in control. Take this piece of advice seriously. Pack light, and pack smart. These days, you can’t bring anything possibly dangerous—such as knives, lighters or large amounts of liquid (液體)—in your bag.
What to bring?
How do you fit a whole trip’s worth of luggage into a small backpack or suitcase(衣箱)? The answer is simple: bring very little.
Bring out everything you think you might need on the floor. Pick up one item(件) at a time and check it. Ask yourself—not “Will I use it?”, but—“Will I use it enough to feel good about carrying it all the way? The world is getting really small—you can buy Colgate toothpaste, Nivea cream and Gillette razors in almost every country.
Think about what you can do without—not what will be convenient on your trip. When in doubt, leave it out.
小題1:What do the last two paragraphs mainly talk about?
