English people have porridge for breakfast, too. But their porridge is made of oats(燕麥), not rice. Many English people put sugar in their porridge, but the Scottish always put salt in it.
English people always drink tea out of cups, not out of glasses. They usually drink tea with sugar and milk. When you go to an English family for tea, the host(男主人)or hostess(女主人)always asks you, “How many lumps(塊)of sugar do you want in your tea?”
In ordinary(平常的) English families, the main meal is in the evening, because most of the families are away during the day. But on Sunday when everyone is at home, they make the midday(正午)meal, and in the evening they have a much lighter supper.

Tea bag drinking is most westerners’ favorite way of drinking tea. Do you know how it came about?
The tea bag was invented in 1908 by Thomas Sullivan, an American tea seller. He was sending out free tea in silk bags for people to try. People put the bags together with the tea leaves into the cup and added hot water. The tea tasted good, and people thought it was easy to clean the cup. They were not happy when Sullivan started sending them loose (散的) tea again.
Sullivan realized that he had a hot new thing in his hands, and he built a machine to pack the bags. As tea bags became popular, they were changed from silk to gauze (薄紗) and later paper. In 1952, Lipton Tea made the tea bag even more popular with its invention of the four-sided tea bag. Tea bags were soon a hit in the UK, and today 85% of the tea in the UK is packed in paper bags.
However, many people still prefer loose-leaf tea. This is because some tea companies put not very good tea in their tea bags. But for most drinkers, tea bags are still the easy, tasty way to go.

It’s Tuesday afternoon, and I’m in Rheinburg, Germany, visiting the Extra Future Store. The “store of the future” is attracting a lot of attention these days– but not for it’s prices. Instead, people are coming from all over to experience a new way to shop.
The experience is less like shopping in a supermarket and more like playing some kind of high–tech game. It starts as I enter the store and choose a shopping cart(購(gòu)物車). First, I swipe my store ID card through a computer on the cart. The computer’s screen comes on, a map of the store shows, and the journey begins.
As I shop, antennas(天線) around the store send information about different specials to the computer on my cart. Attracted by one of the ads, I choose a box of cheese. I hold up the box to the computer. It displays the price and also suggests that a certain type of bread would be good with it. The map on my chart shows me where to find the bread. It’s like the store is helping me to shop.
How does the store make this kind of shopping experience possible? The answer is radio frequency identification chip (or RFID射頻識(shí)別). Each chip has a special number. Using an RFID reader on the computer, we can get information from a chip about the product(產(chǎn)品). RFID will help shoppers find the things in a store more quickly– products that are just right for them. In addition, people won’t have to wait in long lines to pay. The things in your cart will be read by the computer and the money will be paid by your store ID card automatically(自動(dòng)地). So you can simply walk out of the store with your shopping bags.
Sounds good, right? Maybe you will experience the new shopping soon in your city.

⑤Hold up the things to the computer to be charged.
A.②①④③⑤B.①②⑤③④C.②①⑤③④D.②④①⑤③

The United States is full of automobiles (機(jī)動(dòng)車). There are still many families without cars. But some families have two or     more cars. However, cars are used for more than pleasure. They are a     part of life.
Cars are used for     . They are driven to offices and factories by workers who have no other way to      their jobs. When salesmen are sent to      parts of the city, they have to drive in order to       their products. Farmers have to drive into the city in order to shop for necessities.
Sometimes, small children must be driven to      . In some cities, school buses are used only when children       more than a mile from the school. When the children are too     to walk that far, their parents take      driving them to school. One       drives on Mondays, taking her children and the neighbors' children as well. Another mother drives on Tuesdays, another on Wednesdays and so on. This is       forming a car pool (拼車). Working people also form car pools, with three or four people taking turns driving to the place     they work.
More car pools should be formed in order to put       cars on the road and to use less oil.      is a great problem, and so is the traffic in and around cities. Too many cars are being driven. Something should be done about the use of cars.
