The weather is getting gotter. You are thirsty after playing basketball or riding home from School. A cold drink may be just the thing. But be careful of what you are drinking. Something that looks cool may not be good for our health. There are plenty of "energy drinks" on the market. Most of
them have beautiful colors and cool names. The lists on them tell you they are helpful to your health. Sounds great!
But after a careful check you may find that most energy drinks have lots of caffeine (咖啡因) in them. These drinks are especially aimed at young people, students, busy people and sports players. Makers sometimes say their drinks make you better at sports and can keep you awake. But be careful not to drink too much.
Caffeine makes your heart beat fast. Because of this, the International Olympic Committee has limited( 限制) its use. Caffeine in most energy drinks is at least as strong as that in a cup of coffee or tea. Possible health dangers have something to do with energy drinks. Just one box of energy drink can make you nervous, have difficulty sleeping and can even cause heart problems. Scientists say that teenagers should be discouraged from taking drinks with a lot of caffeine in them.

It may seem easy to say that plants and animals are different. Any child can tell the difference between  a tree and a dog. But those differences are far deeper than just what they look like. The cells (細(xì)胞) that plants are made up of are different. In other words, the cell wall of plants has something special.

First of all, it's important to find that not all plant cells have a cell wall. Besides, there are many differences of a cell wall based on the kinds of plant. The following is meant to be what a plant cell wall is  like.
The cell wall of a plant is on the outside of the cell membrane (膜). It is usually hard and cannot be bent easily, but the degree of flexibility (韌性) of the cell wall is different. It is based on the special use that the cell has in keeping the plant alive. Cells that make up the trunk of a tree are clearly less flexible than  cells on a leaf.
Cell walls act in many ways. They serve to protect the plant. They provide support, as well as help in the movement of chemicals and wastes into and out of the cell.  More importantly, they control the water  that goes in and out.  Plants must have good water controlling systems (系統(tǒng)), allowing them to keep water during dry seasons, and get rid of unnecessary water. Plants can't walk around to find water, so  being able to control water is very important.
So there you have it , what a plant cell wall is. Of course, there are many other things that are not talked about here. Knowing more about plant cell wails requires further study and research.

For a long time, humans have used technology (科技) to study the world around us, and Mars is the latest place we’re using machines to explore. Besides the earth, the “red planet” is seen, as the one place in our solar system most likely to have life.
Early last month, the first American robot, Spirit, landed on Mars without any problem. Opportunity, the second robot, landed on the planet more than a week ago. Scientists are very excited about these machines’ safe landing on Mars. It means that now we have an excellent chance to look for water and other signs of life. So far, the robots have found some stones that could show Mars was once a wet and warm planet.
But the trips made by Spirit and Opportunity were dangerous. Mars is often called the “death planet”, because in the past its environment has been unfriendly to the robot explorers. Before Spirit and Opportunity, nearly forty spaceships had been sent to Mars since the 1960s. Two-thirds of them failed. The first spaceship, Korabl, sent in 1962 by Russia was among them. It broke apart (分裂) near the earth.

In almost every big university in the United States, football is a favorite sport. American football is not like soccer.
Players sometimes kick the ball, but they also throw (扔) the ball and run with it. They try to take it to the other end of the field; they have four chances to move the ball ten yards (碼). They can carry it or throw it. If they move it to the end of the field, they can receive six points. This is called a touch-down (持球觸地).
It’s difficult to move the ball. Eleven men on the other team try to stop the man who has the ball. If the man does not move the ball ten yards, his team kicks the ball to the other team.

People are always afraid of making mistakes. But sometimes it’s not bad to make mistakes, and here is why.
At first, a mistake is a clear sign that you are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things, because when you are trying new things, you are growing. If you never try new things, how can you improve? How can you create? The simple answer is: “you can’t” Look around you, everything you see is the result of someone trying new things.
Another good thing about mistakes is this: when you are making mistakes, you are learning. For example, Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. When he was asked how he felt to fail that many times, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.
Finally, when you make a mistake, you are much closer to success. Why? Because you have said what you should say, and you have done what you should do. Every time you make a mistake, you are closer to success. But it doesn’t mean that you can make mistakes without thinking. Instead, when you try new things you have to think them over, so that you can keep away from some unnecessary mistakes. We shouldn’t spend all our time and money on the only one way, but use them correctly, because our time and money are limited(有限的)
There is an old saying, “if you are not making mistakes, you are not trying hard enough.” So go bravely and make mistakes. And learn, and grow, and succeed.
小題1:If you are making a mistake, that means__________.
A.you’re carefulB.you’re kind

C.invented the computerD.invented 10,000 new things

A.timeB.moneyC.successD.new things
小題5: What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.Never make mistakes
B.You can make mistakes without thinking
C.Sometimes it’s good to make mistakes

Maybe you know floods, earthquakes, sandstorms and so on. But have you heard of typhoons?
Typhoons are some of the worst storms, usually around the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea. Most happen in July, August and September.
How does a typhoon happen? When lots of sea water gets hot in the summer sun, it evaporates (蒸發(fā))into the air. This makes the air hotter. When the air gets warm enough, it starts to move higher up into sky. Then cooler air around it rushes in. It fills the space that is left. After the air gets warmer, it starts to move quickly, making wind. The wind goes in circles(圓圈)and it keeps moving higher in the sky. The warmer the air gets, the quicker the wind moves. And when the wind moves faster than 30 metres a second, a typhoon begins.
A typhoon has two parts, one is called the “eye”. In the eye, the wind does not move so fast. The other part is the wall of clouds around the eye. Here are the strongest winds and hardest rains.
Typhoons are very dangerous. In November this year, Typhoon Haiyan killed 5500 people in Philippines. More people are missing.
What to do when a typhoon hits?
Stay inside. Close all the windows and stay away from them.
Try to bring all of your things inside. Strong winds could even blow away your bikes!
Listen to the radio or TV for important information.
