Do you love taking photos with a camera? People who always take photos may actually be harming their memory, because they’re not concentrating on the event itself.

“People so often take out their cameras almost mindlessly (不費(fèi)心思地) to catch a moment, and they are missing what is happening right in front of them ,” said Linda Henkel, from the university. Henkel and her team decided to perform an experiment. They wanted to find out whether taking photos in a museum weakened a visitor's memory of what they had seen. So they simply told a group to look around the museum, and either take photos of the items on display,or try to remember them. The next day,the group was tested.

People who took photos in the museum were less likely to remember what they had seen. In addition, the amount of detail they remembered was worse than those who didn't take photos. “These results show how the mind's eye and the camera's eye are not the same,” said Henkel.

But don't put your camera down just yet. Other studies have found that looking back at old photos helps us remember an event, compared to just taking a photo and forgetting about it. So next time you’re thinking of taking a photo, just think: is it better to look at the beauty around you with your own eyes,or behind the eye of the camera?

很多人都喜歡拍照作紀(jì)念。而一項新的研究卻發(fā)現(xiàn),拍 照會損害人們充分記住這些事物的能力。

1. A細(xì)節(jié)理解題。由第一段的“…because they’re not concentrating on the event itself. ”可知,當(dāng)我們拍照時, 我們不能集中全部精力在眼前正在發(fā)生的事情上,故 選A項。

2. D 詞義猜測題。由下文的 who took photos in the museum were less likely to remember可推斷,研究人員做實(shí)驗(yàn) 是想弄清楚拍照是否能使一個人的記憶力減弱;由構(gòu) 詞法也可猜測該詞的意思:weak的意思是“弱的”,后 綴-en接在形容詞后面構(gòu)成動詞,有“使,成為”等含 義。由此可猜測weaken意為“使變?nèi)酢,故選D項。

3. C細(xì)節(jié)理解題。由第三段的detail they remembered was worse than those who didn't take photos 可知,在實(shí)驗(yàn)中 拍照的人能夠記起的細(xì)節(jié)不如沒有拍照的人,故選C項。

4. B推理判斷題。文章提到研究人員通過做實(shí)驗(yàn)得出這樣一個結(jié)論:拍照會損害人們充分記住這件事的能力。 由此可推斷我們有可能在科學(xué)報告上讀到這篇文章。

A 15-year-old student who invented a flashlight (手電筒) getting power from the holder's body heat is going home today from California with a big prize and a chance to do further research.

Ann Makosinski was the only Canadian among the four winners at Google's international science competition. Thousands of young scientists from around the world took part in the competition.

Winning the science and technology competition was “a surprise”. Ann said, “I think it will have a great influence on my future. ”

Ann thanked her family for encouraging her interest in science and said that her first toy was a box of transistors (晶體管) .

Ann's prize includes $25,000 and a “once-in-a-lifetime experience” from Google for her Hollow Flashlight, which has no moving parts or batteries.

The idea for the invention came from seeing unwanted batteries and her friend's experience. When Ann visited a friend in the Philippines, she saw the friend couldn’t study when it became dark because there was no electricity or light. She saw the need for a flashlight that has no batteries一Hollow Flashlight.

In her project,Ann wrote “I made two flashlights that do not use any batteries or harmful materials. They do not create any noise and will always work. The flashlight needs at least a 5t temperature difference between the holder's body and the environment around to produce light. ”

A video of Ann explaining how she created the flashlight has been watched more than 1. 4 million times on the Internet.

Though Ann was successful, she has not made a decision about her career path. Ann hopes that she can find a way to join her love of film and science together.
