One day Tony was crossing the road when he was hit a car. He fell and broke his arm.
He was sent to a hospital. There a doctor operated on his arm. Then he put the arm in a cast(石膏). Tony could not move it at all.
“You must keep your arm in a cast for a month.” The doctor said, “That will give the bone(骨頭) a chance to get well”.
A moment later, Tony went back to the hospital. The doctor used a large knife to cut the cast. Then he took Tony’s arm out of the cast.
“Can you move your arm, Tony?” he asked.
Tony tried to move his arm. At last it was difficult, but soon he could move it easily.
“Yes, it’s fine”. He said, “Thank you very much”
“In a few days it will be as good as before.” the doctor said, “Just exercise it a little every day.”
“Will I be able to play the guitar?” Tony asked.
The doctor smiled, “Of course, you will.” He said, “you will have no problems.”

It was midday when I got the call that my grandfather was not well and he was quickly getting worse. My family did not know how long he would        in the world. I knew I had to get to the hospital to tell him how much I loved him. As I drove to the hospital, I pictured him before I got to tell him how much he        to me. Trying to fight back the tears, I wanted to stay calm when I saw him.
I got to the hospital, I hurriedly looked for his hospital room. I found him in a semi-conscious state(半清醒狀態(tài)). On my knees, I said softly, “Hello, Grandpa.”
Still feeling shy, I        not to leave his bedside without letting him know. While I asked about how he was, he told me, “I’ll be fine, Henry.” although we both knew that wasn’t     . Then he asked me with a smile        I was doing.
Hearing what my grandpa said, I was much       . I made the decision that I had to show my gratitude for him. As I found all the courage(勇氣) I had, I hold his hand tightly. I
out, “Grandpa. I just want to let you know how much I love you. I hope you already know that yet I just want to make sure.” By this time, tears were rolling down my face. All those years of love that I had shut and not let him know, became       .
Smilingly, he said, “I know. Thank you for telling me that. All I have on this planet is my family and my love for       . If there is anything I could ask of you, I want you to be good to your family, your mother, your father, and your brother. That’s all I want of you.”
What I learned that day        my whole life.
From then on, I began telling people how much I love them, care for them, and respect them. I get in touch with, for example, my babysitter, my barber, to        my appreciation. I go down into the city once a week and serve pizza to the homeless. I wake up every morning and list everything I’m thankful to in my life.

It was the Greek shopkeeper who taught me about the power of being kind.
In 2008, I left Spain to study alone in London. My parents had to bring up my three younger sisters and two younger brothers, so I found three part-time jobs to pay for my studies. I worked early mornings and late nights, so I was tired, really tired, all the time.
Unfortunately, I got a cold and had a very high fever. Because I had spent all my free time working since I came to London, I hardly took part in any activities and I had no friends. Besides, I was too shy to communicate with others and ask others for help. After sleeping on the sickbed for two days, I went out to get some food. Normally, I went to the supermarket, but this time I went into the Greek shop, a small corner shop, because it was closer.
I picked up some food and gave it to the shopkeeper, who asked me, ‘You look terrible, my boy! You are not feeling well, right?’
I said YES in a low voice.
She pointed at the salami (臘腸) and bread I was buying and offered, ‘I can make you a sandwich, so you don’t have to do it yourself.’
I nodded without saying a word.
So, she made the sandwich and asked me to wait a moment. She went into the back room and came again with a bowl of hot soup.
‘It will warm you up,’ she said with a friendly smile.
What really warmed me up was not the soup. It was her smile that told me she cared me. Her kindness reminded me of my mother.
I had been quite shy, but from that day on, I did not let shyness prevent me from communicating with and being kind to others. Now I work in a children’s hospital in Africa. I love my work and people around me. I always bring my smile and kindness to them.

Recently the “China dream” has been the subject of a public topic. Although it is quite common for Chinese people to dream of an empowered or a prosperous(繁榮) China, most people also have their own dreams. Throughout China’s thousands of years of history, these “China dreams” have always existed. Do you have a “China dream”? I brought up this topic with several young Chinese students with higher U.S. educational backgrounds. Unsurprisingly, they all had their own heartfelt hopes and dreams for their native country.

Fred Wang, an MBA candidate in the U.S. said, “I dream of equal chance for the young in China. Equality means all young people can compete fairly, based on the rule-of-law no matter whether they are rich or poor.”
